The Quell system, situated within the Outer Rim Territories, was home to the planet named Quell. During the Clone Wars, this star system became a fiercely contested region, with both sides vying for control, including the Separatist Providence-class Dreadnought called Lucid Voice.
In the year 21 BBY, amid the Clone Wars, Quell became the location of a significant engagement. This involved a Galactic Republic task force, under the leadership of Jedi General Aayla Secura, clashing with a Confederacy naval squadron commanded by the T-series tactical droid designated TF-1726. The battle resulted in substantial losses for the Republic forces, and ultimately, the Confederacy emerged victorious.
The Quell system existed far away within the galaxy, specifically in the areas known as the Outer Rim Territories and the New Territories. Its location was identified as grid square Q-6 on the Standard Galactic Grid. This star system contained the planet known as Quell, found in its outer regions. Furthermore, it was positioned along the Salin Corridor hyperspace route, which provided a connection to the astronomical object Yalbec Prime and the planet Lola Sayu.

During the Clone Wars, a conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the Quell system was a major point of contention. Both sides deployed their forces to the area, including the Confederacy's Providence-class Dreadnought, the Lucid Voice. In 21 BBY of the war, the upper atmosphere surrounding Quell was the site of a battle. A Republic task force of Venator-class Star Destroyers, commanded by Jedi General Aayla Secura, was attacked by a Confederacy naval squadron of Munificent-class star frigates under the command of T-series military strategic analysis and tactics droid TF-1726.
The battle resulted in significant losses for the Republic, including the destruction of all three of Secura's Star Destroyers. However, the Jedi Master successfully escaped the destruction of her flagship, the Liberty, with the help of fellow Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, his Padawan Ahsoka Tano, and Clone Captain CT-7567. Skywalker, Tano, and Rex arrived in the Quell system aboard their Venator, the Resolute, to assist Secura. Skywalker used a rescue frigate to dock with Secura's starship and extract her before it was destroyed. During their escape, the frigate sustained damage, which caused its hyperdrive to activate, leading to an unplanned jump through hyperspace to the planet Maridun.

The Confederacy achieved a clear victory in the Battle of Quell, highlighting the Republic's initial difficulties in maintaining control over the Outer Rim, where separatist sentiments had become widespread during that time. The battle served as a reminder that the Republic's eventual triumph in the war would not be easily achieved. Sometime after her defeat at Quell, between 20 BBY and 19 BBY, Secura and her clone troopers from the 327th Star Corps returned to the planet's surface and engaged in further combat.
The Quell system made its debut in "Jedi Crash," which was the thirteenth episode of first season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series. It was broadcast on January 16, 2009. The system's name was mentioned in the episode's opening newsreel. Originally, the script described the Battle of Quell as taking place in space near Quell, but the location was changed to the planet's upper atmosphere to enhance the drama during the pre-production phase of the show.
