Redhurne system

The Redhurne system, also known as Redhurne, was once a star system within the Metatessu sector of the Mid Rim, where life thrived. However, it suffered complete destruction when its star experienced a supernova, eliminating all signs of life and civilization from its orbits. The resulting devastation left the system's innermost planets fractured, exposing their cores to intense radiation. These conditions led to the formation of unique materials that were subsequently mined during the latter years of the Galactic Republic and throughout the period of the Galactic Empire. The MC80 Star Cruiser known as the Aurora Flare made a stop at the Redhurne system in the year 1 ABY.

In the year 3 ABY, the Rebel Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry launched an attack on an Imperial heavy freighter as it entered the Redhurne system. Their aim was to acquire supplies needed to repair the damaged hyperdrive of their CR90 corvette, the Thunderstrike. The corvette, accompanied by its escort, engaged the heavy freighter, and a boarding party from the Thunderstrike infiltrated the vessel. Despite the arrival of Imperial reinforcements that forced a swift rebel departure, the 61st successfully obtained the necessary resources before fleeing the system.

Description

The star system referred to as the Redhurne system, or simply Redhurne, was once located within the Metatessu sector of the Mid Rim Territories. This system was once home to a thriving civilization and included several planets, as well as at least one moon which was ultimately destroyed. These celestial bodies revolved in orbit around the Redhurne star. The system's worlds were left desolate and lifeless after the star went supernova, leaving behind a post-nova fragment. The innermost planets were fractured by the gravitational forces of the star, resulting in the formation of at least one asteroid. The radiation emitted by the post-nova fragment of the Redhurne star transformed materials within the broken planets, creating substances that could be refined into hypermatter fuel, such as coaxium.

History

Mining operations

The Aurora Flare (pictured) was present at the Redhurne system before it traveled to the planet Mon Cala.

The Redhurne system was utterly destroyed, its life extinguished, when its sun underwent a supernova explosion centuries before the outbreak of the Galactic Civil War between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire. Following a study of purrgil and Clouzon-36 gas by scientists, the discovery was made that coaxium could naturally form in areas with high levels of interstellar energy. This discovery led the scientists to connect their findings to both the Redhurne system and the planet Kessel, concluding that both locations were significant sources of hyperfuel. As a result, the system became a prime target for mining operations. During the closing years of the Galactic Republic, orbital mining stations staffed by minimal crews used scavenging droids to collect these materials.

After the Republic was reorganized into the Galactic Empire in 19 BBY, the new government began utilizing the space stations by the era of the Galactic Civil War. By 1 ABY, extensive refineries for processing coaxium were in operation within the Redhurne system. In that year, the Aurora Flare, an MC80 Star Cruiser belonging to the Mon Cala Mercantile Fleet, made a stop in the Redhurne system before proceeding to the ocean planet of Mon Cala carrying a shipment of coaxium.

Rebel raid

The Thunderstrike and Apailana's Promise (pictured) attacked a Imperial freighter in the Redhurne system.

In 3 ABY, the 61st Mobile Infantry of the Alliance, famously known as Twilight Company, journeyed to the Redhurne system with the objective of raiding an Imperial cargo transport in order to repair the damaged hyperdrive of their CR90 corvette, the Thunderstrike. The Thunderstrike concealed itself in the shadows of the shattered moon, while its escort, the Braha'tok-class gunship Apailana's Promise, lay in wait behind an asteroid that was once part of a planet. When an Imperial heavy freighter entered the system, Everi Chalis, an Imperial governor who had defected to Twilight Company, used her prior position in the Empire to persuade the vessel to alter its course.

The Thunderstrike and Apailana's Promise attacked the Imperial heavy freighter. The former deployed a boarding party onto the freighter using boarding pods. As the rebel boarding party secured supplies for their corvette's hyperdrive, the rebel ships harassed the freighter along with its TIE fighters. An Imperial Gozanti-class cruiser soon arrived in the system and joined the battle, compelling the rebels to expedite their withdrawal from their target. Ultimately, the Thunderstrike and the Apailana's Promise successfully escaped with the remaining members of their boarding party and the essential supplies.

Behind the scenes

The Redhurne system made its initial appearance in the 2015 novel titled Battlefront: Twilight Company, authored by Alexander Freed. In the forty-ninth edition of the 2015 Marvel Star Wars comic series—penned by Kieron Gillen and released on June 6, 2018Admiral Tyrus Meori was informed that the Aurora Flare had visited the Redhurne system prior to its journey to Mon Cala. In contrast, the 2021 reference book titled Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy indicates that Meori was told that the cruiser was transporting coaxium destined for Redhurne's refineries.
