HFY-3920 shuttle ferry

The shuttle ferry HFY-3920, often shortened to just shuttle ferry, was a repulsorcraft shuttle with two engines and a single pilot, sporting a red and beige color scheme. It was built by Ferrix Field Yards and used on the planet of Ferrix around 5 BBY. The Ferrix Entry Ferry Service utilized these shuttle ferries to transport passengers between different locations, including the town center. In 5 BBY, Luthen Rael, a rebel network coordinator, traveled on a shuttle ferry. Similarly, Vel Sartha, one of his network's spies, and Syril Karn and Linus Mosk, former officers from Pre-Mor Enforcement, also used a shuttle ferry several weeks later.

Characteristics

The HFY-3920 shuttle ferry was a shuttle-type repulsorcraft powered by two engines, produced by Ferrix Field Yards. This starship's exterior was painted red and beige. The phrase "FERRIX ENTRY FERRY SERVICE" was written on the side using Bazeese script. Each ferry also had its engine number displayed next to the company's name in capital letters. The two engine units were positioned at the rear of the ferries.

The pilot of a shuttle ferry was seated in an elevated cockpit.

The shuttle ferry's interior was spacious, providing standing room and seating for at least thirty-one passengers, arranged in groups of four, along with a gallery at the rear. Overhead compartments were available for luggage storage. A single ferry operator controlled the vehicle from an elevated glass cockpit located at the front. Passengers could enter and exit using a staircase droid at ferry stations, and a mirror on the opposite side of the door. Above the door, a screen displayed destination information, while overhead lights and large windows offered passengers a clear view of the surroundings.

Role

Shuttle ferries functioned as public intercity transports for passengers.

History

The Ferrix Entry Ferry Service operated the HFY-3920 shuttle ferries on the planet Ferrix, using them for years to serve both local workers and visitors from other worlds. As Ferrix City grew, the ferry service became more and more essential. The routes started in distant valleys, where passengers got on the ferries from their personal starships, and ended at Ferrix Terminal in Ferrix City.

By 5 BBY, the Ferrix Entry Ferry Service ran at least three different shuttle ferries, including Engine 22, to transport passengers from shuttle stations around the planet to Ferrix Terminal and the planet's spaceport. When Luthen Rael, a rebel network coordinator, landed on Ferrix to meet Cassian Andor's local contact's seller in 5 BBY, he used Engine 22 to travel from a ferry station near the remote valley where he had landed his Fondor Haulcraft to the town of Ferrix.

During this journey, he spoke with Willi, another passenger, who complained about the ferry rates and warned him about pickpockets. One month later, Vel Sartha, Rael's network's spy, used a shuttle ferry to leave the town on her way to the Core Worlds planet Coruscant to meet with her cousin Mon Mothma. Several days later, Syril Karn and Linus Mosk, former officers from Pre-Mor Enforcement, disguised as locals, rode a ferry to the Ferrixian town to investigate the possibility of Andor's presence at his mother's upcoming funeral.

Behind the scenes

The shuttle ferry made its debut in "That Would Be Me," which was the second episode of the first season of the Disney+ television series Andor with live-action, released on September 21, 2022. In the audio description of the following episode, "Reckoning," which was released on the same day, it was referred to as a "shuttle ferry". The reference book Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy, published in 2024, further identified the ferry's model as the HFY-3920.
