Unidentified Klatooinian boss

A Klatooinian individual, specifically a male, held the position of boss, alternatively known as a don, within the Klatooinian family located in the city of Mos Espa on the planet Tatooine. Initially in service to crime lord Jabba the Hutt until Jabba's death, this Klatooinian leader separated his family from the late Hutt's criminal empire when Bib Fortuna, the majordomo, took control of the throne. He maintained a precarious alliance with Fortuna while simultaneously attempting, unsuccessfully, to usurp him.

Boba Fett, formerly a bounty hunter, eventually seized Jabba's throne, becoming the new Daimyo. However, his authority was quickly challenged, most notably by the Pyke Syndicate, who sought to gain control. Fett convened a banquet with the leaders of Mos Espa's three dominant families, requesting their support against the Pykes. The Klatooinian don questioned the legitimacy of Fett's position and declined to endanger his people for the Daimyo's cause. Despite this, he agreed to Fett's suggestion that the families remain neutral during the conflict. Ultimately, the Klatooinian don, along with the other two leaders, betrayed Boba and sided with the Pykes. Following the battle of Mos Espa, he, along with Mok Shaiz and the Pyke boss, were killed by Fennec Shand.

Biography

Changes in power

The Klatooinian family gained control of the Mos Espa spaceport and upper sprawl under Bib Fortuna

The Klatooinian male was the head of the Klatooinian family in the city of Mos Espa, located on the desert planet Tatooine. He operated as a captain under the notorious crime lord Jabba the Hutt, amassing considerable wealth, until Jabba's death in 4 ABY. Following Jabba's demise, Bib Fortuna, Jabba's majordomo, assumed control of the throne, prompting the Klatooinian don to quickly separate his family from Jabba's former criminal empire, joining forces with the Strassi family and the Aqualish family. Subsequently, Mos Espa was divided among these three families, with the Klatooinians gaining control of the spaceport and the upper sprawl. During Fortuna's reign, he relied on fragile alliances with these families, each of whom attempted to overthrow him, only to be unsuccessful.

Around 9 ABY, Boba Fett, a renowned bounty hunter who had retired from his profession after Jabba's death, attacked Fortuna's palace, assassinating the former majordomo and claiming the throne as the new Daimyo of Tatooine. Fett's ascension was not without resistance, as he faced multiple assassination attempts, and the Mayor of Mos Espa, Mok Shaiz, pledged Fett's territories to the Pyke Syndicate.

Fett's proposal

The don agreed to abide by Fett's request to remain neutral.

With the Pykes amassing forces within the city and challenging his authority, Fett summoned the Klatooinian don and the other family leaders to a banquet. There, the Daimyo's associate, Master Assassin Fennec Shand, recounted the families' previous positions within Jabba's organization and the power vacuum that followed the Hutt's death. Fett promised a mutually beneficial relationship with the families and cautioned that the Pyke Syndicate's takeover was depleting Tatooine's resources. After Dokk Strassi, the Trandoshan family leader, asserted that the families profited from the spice trade, the Pyke's primary business, the Klatooinian don openly questioned Fett's legitimacy as Daimyo, inquiring what prevented the families from eliminating the crime lord.

The banquet was interrupted by Fett's rancor, which scratched at the floor beneath them from its enclosure. Fett calmed the rancor and invited the family leaders back to their seats. The Daimyo proposed an alliance with the families against the Pyke Syndicate. The Klatooinian don expressed skepticism about risking his people's lives for a conflict that did not directly involve him, a sentiment echoed by Strassi. Fett subsequently assured the families that he would handle the Pykes himself, requesting only that they remain neutral. Strassi and Garfalaquox, the Aqualish don, accepted the Daimyo's terms, and the Klatooinian also agreed to comply. With the leaders in agreement, they departed from Boba's palace in speeders.

Fateful deal

The Klatooinian don was shot down by Fennec Shand

The don's agreement with Fett proved short-lived, as he and the other two family leaders had a prior arrangement with the Pyke Syndicate, requiring Tatooine to be conducive to the syndicate's operations. While the leaders traveled to the Pykes' headquarters on Tatooine, the forces under the Mos Espa families and the Pykes prepared to overthrow Fett from his position of power over the city from the Mos Eisley spaceport's Desert Survey Office. As part of the attack, the families initiated the conflict, with the don's soldiers eliminating the pair of Gamorrean guards stationed in the upper sprawl before advancing into the city center. Throughout the battle, the don's forces suffered casualties before the Pyke forces were ordered to retreat from the city.

Back at the Desert Survey Office, the Klatooinian and the other family dons were present with Mok Shaiz and the Pyke Syndicate's boss on Tatooine. The Pyke boss informed the other four that his forces were withdrawing to Mos Eisley in preparation to leave the planet. The leaders were displeased, with the Klatooinian berating the Syndicate official on his retreat plan, a confrontation Strassi back him up on. The boss, though, pointed out that Tatooine was no longer hospitable for his syndicate. As arguing continued, the group heard gunshots from outside. The boss and the family leaders raised their blasters when the attacker, Fennec Shand, shot down Garfalaquox from above. Before anyone could locate the sniper, the Klatoonian was also shot, being struck in the chest and spiraled to the floor dead. The assassin proceeded to kill the rest of the room's occupants before leaving.

Personality and traits

The Klatooinian male possessed brown skin. He harbored ambitions to seize the throne of the late Jabba the Hutt, attempting to depose Bib Fortuna without success. The Klatooinian later openly challenged Boba Fett's claim to the throne, questioning what prevented the families of Mos Espa from assassinating the Daimyo. The don was unwilling to make sacrifices to support Fett against the Pykes, and instead aligned himself with the Syndicate while feigning compliance with the Daimyo's terms of neutrality. His deception proved unfruitful, a harsh reality that angered the don when the Syndicate's boss on Tatooine chose to withdraw his people offworld, abandoning his crime family.

Equipment

The Klatooinian wore red and yellow clothing and used a speeder. Different from the SE-14r light repeating blasters the other Mos Espa dons carried, the Klatooinian wielded a different model of blaster with a forward grip.

Behind the scenes

The boss first appeared in the fourth episode of the 2022 Disney+ series The Book of Boba Fett, where the descriptive audio track referred to him as a don. However the credits for both Chapter 4 and Chapter 7 identify the character as Klatooinian boss. He is also called a boss on an autograph card in the 2022 Topps Star Wars Chrome Galaxy trading card set. The physical performance was provided by Ardeshir Radpour, while veteran Star Wars voice actor Phil LaMarr provided the speaking role.
