Yellow Squadron, alternatively known as Yellow Group, functioned as a starfighter squadron within the Rebel Alliance. This squadron was stationed above the planet Vrogas Vas during the Galactic Civil War.
After his resignation as a flight instructor for the Galactic Empire, Jake Farrell, a human, retreated to Derango 4. However, he soon enlisted with the Rebellion and served in Yellow Squadron, utilizing a modified R-22 Spearhead starfighter and the callsign "Yellow Seven". By the time of the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, Farrell was a member of the rebel Gold Squadron and piloted an RZ-1 A-wing interceptor.

During 0 ABY, Yellow Squadron, along with Blue Squadron and Red Squadron, were conducting drills over Vrogas Vas. Unexpectedly, an Imperial scout ship emerged from hyperspace directly in their path. Given the numerical advantage of three squadrons of X-wings against a single TIE fighter, the Rebel Alliance seemed to have the upper hand. The drills were immediately aborted, and Blue Squadron took the initiative, launching an attack on the solitary ship, thus initiating the Battle of Vrogas Vas. Unbeknownst to them, Darth Vader was piloting a TIE Advanced x1 equipped with deflector shields and torpedoes. The entire Blue Squadron was annihilated without inflicting any damage on Vader's vessel. Stunned by the loss of Blue Squadron, Yellow Squadron opted to coordinate their attack using torpedoes. However, upon firing, the torpedoes deviated from their intended course, and Vader proceeded to eliminate Yellow Squadron. Luke Skywalker, flying as Red Five with the remaining pilots of Red Squadron, sensed Vader's presence. Convinced that another coordinated attack would be futile, he steered his X-wing into Vader's TIE, resulting in both ships crashing onto the planet's surface. Both pilots survived the crash, and the battle continued on the planet, resulting in further casualties for Gray Squadron, Amber Wing, and Cyan Squadron.
During 4 ABY, Yellow Group participated in the Battle of Endor. As Red Group and Gold Group advanced towards the reactor of Death Star II, Captain Ribeiro and her second-in-command Lieutenant Malena established a defensive perimeter around the superstructure's entrance to prevent further TIEs from pursuing those who had entered. Towards the battle's conclusion, Yellow Group, along with Green Group, received orders from Home One to intercept Imperial vessels evacuating the second Death Star. Yellow Group suffered the loss of half of its pilots during the battle.
The 2017 activity book titled Star Wars: A-wing Deluxe Book and 3D Wood Model mentions that Jake Farrell became a member of "the rebel group Yellow Seven." However, the 2022 booklet titled "Pilots of the Rebel Alliance" clarifies that Farrell actually joined Yellow Squadron and adopted the callsign "Yellow Seven."
