Iego system

Description

The Iego system was situated in the Ash Worlds sector, in the Outer Rim Territories and Slice regions, at grid coordinates T-7. The system contained the planet Iego, famed as the legendary "World of a Thousand Moons" for its many moons. The Diathim, a sentient species known as the semi-mythical "Angels" of Iego, resided on the moon Millius Prime.

History

The Iego system was primarily famous for the planet of Iego, whose one thousand moons were famous galaxy-wide on other far-flung Outer Rim worlds such as Tatooine, along with the Angels which dwelled there. In 32 BBY, the then-slave Anakin Skywalker, who grew up on Tatooine, asked Padmé Amidala if she was an Angel and told her he had heard of them from spacers when he first met her.

Early in the Clone Wars, a galaxy-spanning conflict between the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems which lasted from 22 BBY to 19 BBY, the Separatists occupied Iego for a time, constructing the LaserWeb Defense Station in its moons. The laser web's primary generator was constructed on Millius Prime, the Diathim forced off of their home in the process. Afterwards, the Separatists abandoned Iego, leaving the security system active. As a result, everyone who remained on Iego was trapped and unable to leave, as the laser web destroyed any starship which attempted to make it through. The Iegoans began attributing the situation to a curse laid by the mythical figure Drol.

In 21 BBY, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his former apprentice Skywalker, now a Jedi Knight, travelled to Iego from the Mid Rim planet Naboo seeking reeksa root, the only known cure for the Blue Shadow Virus, a disease lethal to almost all lifeforms which had been resurrected by Doctor Nuvo Vindi, a scientist working for the Separatists. The virus had been unleashed in Vindi's laboratory, a leftover from the Trade Federation's invasion of Naboo, while Republic personnel were conducting cleanup sweeps of the lab, and almost everyone trapped inside, including Senator Amidala and Skywalker's Padawan Ahsoka Tano, had been infected.

Skywalker and Kenobi persuaded a resident of Cliffhold city, Jaybo Hood, to show them where to find the reeksa vine. However, after retrieving the root, the two Jedi were informed of the "curse of Drol" which prevented them from leaving. A flight offworld in their freighter Twilight led them to discover the laser web, and at a meeting with the citizenry, Kenobi and Skywalker informed the Iegoans of the true nature of the threat which kept them trapped. Hood had salvaged many abandoned battle droids left behind by the Separatists, and gave Skywalker, Kenobi, and their astromech droid R2-D2 control of several vulture droid starfighters. As Skywalker piloted the Twilight through the laser web, R2 piloted the vulture droids into the generator on Millius Prime, destroying the security system, after which Kenobi informed the Iegoans that they were once again free to leave their planet whenever they chose. Kenobi and Skywalker returned to Naboo with the reeksa root in time to save Amidala, Tano, and the surviving clone troopers inside Vindi's laboratory.
