Battle of Troithe

The Battle of Troithe, alternatively known as the attack on Troithe or the battle at Core Nine, unfolded as a surprise offensive by the New Republic against the 204th Imperial Fighter Wing amidst the Galactic Civil War. This assault was spearheaded by Wyl Lark's squadron in conjunction with the 61st Mobile Infantry, targeting Colonel Soran Keize's forces stationed at the Core Nine mining megafacility located on Troithe. Subsequently, General Hera Syndulla arrived with backup, including the Temperance and X-wings from Vanguard Squadron, responding to a distress signal transmitted by Chass na Chadic. Keize then amassed all remaining TIE fighters onto a bulk freighter. Utilizing missiles salvaged from the wreckage of the Edict, Keize launched them towards the city below, compelling Wyl Lark to abandon the pursuit of the freighter to intercept the incoming missiles. Just before Keize's freighter jumped into hyperspace, Yrica Quell, piloting a cloaked starship discovered during her isolation on an asteroid, covertly attached her vessel to the freighter's hull, enabling her escape with Shadow Wing.

Prelude

Despite suffering substantial infantry casualties, the Barma Battle Group successfully seized Troithe's capital in the First Battle of Troithe. Even with their significant victory over Shadow Wing at Pandem Nai, New Republic Intelligence remained convinced that Shadow Wing presented a formidable threat. Intelligence officer Caern Adan, General Hera Syndulla, and Captain Yriqa Quell convened to analyze the Wing's whereabouts. They concluded that it had not integrated with another Imperial Battle Group. Consequently, they devised a plan to draw the Wing into the Cerberon system. Ground forces would advance directly on the capital, rather than systematically securing it sector by sector. This strategy would leave considerable territory on the continents under Imperial or pro-Imperial guerrilla control, potentially allowing a counter-invasion to reclaim the planet.

Shadow Wing's plan

Although tempted by the possibility of breaching Cerberon's defenses utilizing the asteroid, Shadow Wing opted for a direct, head-on assault instead, leaving almost half of the 61st Mobile Infantry behind. Soran Keize made this decision due to Shadow Wing's recent acquisition of the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Edict. Shadow Wing's strategy involved a two-pronged approach. The Quasar Fire-class cruiser-carrier Aerie would deploy with a small fighter escort to attack Catadra, while the Edict would proceed towards Troithe. Shadow Wing's objective was not to recapture the Cerberon system, but rather to inflict maximum damage on the New Republic's forces and secure a much-needed victory for Shadow Wing.

The 204th's bulk freighter was subsequently named Yadeez, sharing its designation with Fara Yadeez, Troithe's acting Imperial governor.
