Bakkar, also known as "the Butcher," was a human proprietor. He was the owner of the Ronto Roasters restaurant, situated in Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu. Originally hailing from Tatooine, he came from a family of butchers spanning four generations and was an avid enthusiast of podracing. Upon relocating to Batuu alongside his droid, 8D-J8, Bakkar established his eatery with the intention of introducing his renowned ronto meat to a new clientele.
Bakkar uniquely prepared his meats by employing a modified podracer engine that he had acquired. During 34 ABY, 8D-J8's reprogramming, which aimed to automate the droid's grilling duties, resulted in excessive chatter. To resolve this, Bakkar reached out to Mubo, an Utai and 8D-J8's initial programmer, who eventually consented to rectify the droid's behavior.

Growing up on the planet Tatooine, Bakkar was a butcher from a lineage that spanned four generations, with his family's specialty being the ronto creature. Even after the galaxy outlawed the sport of podracing, he remained a devoted fan. While he offered a variety of specialty meats, he gained prominence, like his family, for his ronto. Upon reaching adulthood, he departed Tatooine, dreaming of introducing his family's celebrated meat to a different Outer Rim Territories planet. Having amassed sufficient credits, he procured a smelter droid, 8D-J8, who subsequently became known as a pitmaster droid. 8D-J8 remained a constant companion.
Bakkar ventured to the Outer Rim planet of Batuu, where he secured a reasonably priced podracing engine from Savi & Son Salvage for cooking his meats. With his ronto recipe perfected, he inaugurated a restaurant named Ronto Roasters within the Black Spire Outpost settlement, aiming to introduce ronto to a new customer base. Bakkar constructed an intricate mechanical grill, with 8D-J8 acting as the restaurant's pitmaster, following Mubo, an Utai droid scrapper, reprogramming him to exclusively manage the spit, ensuring consistent and thorough meat cooking.
Besides the droid, Bakkar enlisted several individuals to assist in running the establishment. Despite the ban on podracing, the human was an avid collector of podracing flags, which he proudly displayed in Ronto Roasters. He also enjoyed watching race reruns, demonstrating his enthusiasm. Due to his profession, Bakkar earned the fitting moniker "the Butcher."

While Bakkar and his pitmaster offered various meats and vegetables at Ronto Roasters, their most sought-after item was the Ronto Wrap, prepared with the signature Clutch Sauce. The restaurant also featured a selection of beverages, with Bakkar's signature drink being the Tatooine Sunset. On numerous occasions, Strono Tuggs, an Artiodac chef, attempted to persuade Bakkar to reveal his family's secret spice rub for Ronto Wraps, but Bakkar consistently declined. Although Tuggs respected the secret, he persistently tried to deduce the recipe on his own.
In 34 ABY, Tuggs released a cookbook titled The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook. Within its pages, he mentioned Bakkar and his secret recipe, asserting that Bakkar's establishment in Black Spire Outpost offered the "most delicious" meat available in the Outer Rim Territories. Concurrently, Eloc Throno, a historian, also highlighted Bakkar's restaurant and signature dishes in his publication Traveler's Guide to Batuu, recommending the food served there. A location within Black Spire Outpost, Bakkar Spire, shared its name with Bakkar. In the same year, Salju, a local mechanic, guided Vi Moradi, a Resistance spy, on a tour of Black Spire Outpost, which included a stop at Ronto Roasters. Salju informed Moradi about Bakkar and his nickname, "the Butcher," cautioning her against discussing podracing in his presence due to his intense passion for it.
In The Life Day Cookbook, Strono Tuggs's second cookbook, the Artiodac included a recipe for an Eopie Roast featuring the eopie creature. Initially hesitant about using the eopie's tough meat, Tuggs was impressed by Bakkar's ability to tenderize it and the seemingly magical properties of his special seasoning after sampling a slice of its rump from Ronto Roasters. As with his ronto seasoning, Bakkar was reluctant to share the secret, even with a friend like Tuggs. The chef ultimately acquired the recipe by trading a vibroknife, which he considered a more than equitable exchange.

Also in 34 ABY, Bakkar contacted Mubo due to his dissatisfaction with Mubo's reprogramming of 8D-J8. Despite Mubo's insistence that the job was done correctly, as the droid turned the spit, Bakkar complained that the droid never stopped talking. Mubo suggested deactivating and reactivating him to resolve the issue.
Mubo reminded Bakkar that he had reprogrammed 8D-J8 multiple times and that Bakkar was never satisfied with the results. Bakkar insisted that another reprogramming was necessary, or he would resort to attaching a restraining bolt to the droid. Mubo pleaded against bolting the pitmaster, but Bakkar argued that 8D-J8 needed to stop talking, as he had begun to believe himself to be a droid chef despite being merely a pitmaster. Mubo relented and promised to stop by later, despite his busy schedule.
Bakkar possessed a deep affection for podracing and readily engaged in lengthy discussions about it, displaying youthful enthusiasm when watching reruns of the sport. He also desired to share his ronto meat with others. He felt overwhelmed by his droid's incessant chatter, and despite Mubo's reluctance to perform yet another reprogramming on 8D-J8, Bakkar's threat of using a restraining bolt forced the Utai to comply. Bakkar was a human with light skin, light-colored hair, and dark eyes.
Bakkar was a proficient chef, having inherited his skills from four generations of butchers. His dishes garnered praise in both Traveler's Guide to Batuu and The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook. However, the latter suggested that 8D-J8 might deserve the majority of the credit.

Bakkar's character was developed as part of the backstory for the real-world Ronto Roasters restaurant at the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge themed land, which debuted in 2019 at Disneyland Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios. He subsequently made a full appearance in the Star Wars: Datapad app, which provided his first visual representation.
While Star Wars: Datapad portrays Bakkar with short, light-colored hair, the 2019 recipe book Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook depicts him with long, brown hair. Given that Datapad uses a live-action image, unlike the drawn illustration in the cookbook, this article considers Datapad's image to be the canonical depiction.
