Coca-Cola

A carbonated and caffeinated soft drink, Coca-Cola was available in Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu during 34 ABY. These beverages were contained in plastic sphere-shaped bottles and served in paper cups. Jat Kaa, a Lurmen male individual from the world of Mygeeto, was responsible for importing and selling this drink. He operated Jat Kaa's Coolers, which distributed the product to both travelers and local residents from temporary locations throughout the outpost and the nearby ancient ruins.

Description

This brown and fizzy soda, known as Coca-Cola, contained caffeine. Its packaging consisted of red, spherical plastic bottles adorned with white Aurebesh text. The Aurebesh inscriptions translated to "Coca-Cola" and "original taste," framed by a black, sharp-edged border. A metallic, screw-on cap featuring several rectangular ridges sealed the beverage. Coca-Cola was also dispensed with ice into large or regular-sized paper cups. Humans could safely drink it, and a variant, Diet Coke, was also offered.

History

During the First Order-Resistance conflict of 34 ABY, Jat Kaa, a Lurmen male originating from Mygeeto, arranged for the import of Coca-Cola bottles to Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, a world situated in the Outer Rim. Employees of his business, Jat Kaa's Coolers, then proceeded to sell these bottles from various temporary stands located throughout the outpost and the adjacent ancient ruins.

Furthermore, Kaa acquired several R-series astromech droids, specifically J1-KC, J2-KC, and J3-KC, from Mubo, the proprietor of the Droid Depot. He then reprogrammed these droids to operate specially designed vehicles for the purpose of selling Coca-Cola bottles around the outpost. These vehicles were painted with the same color scheme as the Coca-Cola bottles and prominently displayed the beverage's logo. Additionally, two other vehicles were decorated in the green-and-yellow colors of Sprite bottles and the gray-and-red colors of Diet Coke bottles. J4-KC and J5-KC, also R-series droids, drove these vehicles, which were used to resupply the other Coca-Cola vending vehicles.

During that year, the soda was served in cups at establishments such as Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo and Ronto Roasters, and also within the Crown of Corellia Dining Room aboard the Purrgil-class starcruiser Halcyon.

Behind the scenes

The Coca-Cola soft drink is among the beverages available at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, the themed area that opened at Disneyland Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2019. The Star Wars–themed packaging for this drink was created uniquely for the park through a collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering, Lucasfilm, and The Coca-Cola Company, which has maintained a partnership with Disneyland since 1955. The specially designed drink was unveiled at Star Wars Celebration Chicago in April of 2019, during the "Bringing Star Wars to Life at Disney Parks" panel. The reveal included an advertisement showing a crate containing Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Sprite, and Dasani drinks being stolen from a pair of oblivious First Order stormtroopers.

Bottle concepts throughout the design process

The bottle design process spanned over three years. Coca-Cola Design presented numerous concepts with varying shapes and sizes before deciding on the distinctive orb bottles found in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. According to Matt Cooper, an associate industrial designer at Coca-Cola, the ultimate goal of the design was to give the bottles the appearance of having been recently removed from a starship or repurposed as beverage containers.

The textures for the soda bottles were captured in West Midtown in Atlanta, Georgia, where The Coca-Cola Company is headquartered, with Cooper responsible for the concept art. Cooper also conceptualized the bottle caps to resemble items that the Resistance might use, in contrast to the Dasani bottle, which was designed to possibly appear as though it was brought in by the First Order. James Cha designed the orb shapes. The idea to incorporate Aurebesh for the logo came about when a group of Imagineers visited the Coke Archives in Atlanta and observed the brand's well-known Spencerian script logo rendered in various languages.
