Sprite

A fizzy soda, known as Sprite, was dispensed from plastic orb-shaped bottles and paper cups at various restaurants within Black Spire Outpost. This outpost was situated on the planet Batuu in 34 ABY. Jat Kaa, a male Lurmen originating from Mygeeto, imported the beverage. He then sold it to both visitors and locals through his enterprise, Jat Kaa's Coolers, at temporary stands around the outpost and within the nearby ancient ruins.

Description

Sprite was a transparent, carbonated soda sold in green plastic spheres. These spheres featured white Aurebesh lettering spelling out "Sprite," framed by a black, angular border over a yellow hexagon. A metallic, screw-on cap, marked by several rectangular protrusions, sealed the drink. It was also available from dispensers, served with ice in both large and regular sizes of paper cups. Humans could safely drink it.

History

During the First Order and Resistance conflict, or war, in 34 ABY, Jat Kaa, a male Lurmen originating from the planet Mygeeto, imported Sprite bottles to Black Spire Outpost, a settlement on Batuu located in the Outer Rim Territories. Employees of his business, Jat Kaa's Coolers, sold them to both off-worlders and Batuuans from temporary locations situated throughout the outpost, as well as within the nearby ancient ruins.

To aid in distribution, Kaa acquired multiple R-series droids from Mubo, the Utai owner of the Droid Depot. He then had them reprogrammed to operate specially designed vehicles around Black Spire Outpost, which were used to sell Sprite bottles and other beverages. J1-KC, J2-KC, and J3-KC were the droids who drove the vehicles that sold Sprite, while J4-KC was responsible for distributing Sprite bottles to the various pop-up locations using a vehicle that featured a paint scheme similar to the Sprite beverage containers. J5-KC also delivered Sprite bottles to those locations, but used a cart that was painted to resemble Diet Coke bottles.

During that year, Sprite bottles were offered in the market at Kat Saka's Kettle in Black Spire. Additionally, cups of the soda were available at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, Ronto Roasters, and the Crown of Corellia Dining Room aboard the Purrgil-class starcruiser Halcyon.

Sprite is a product of The Coca-Cola Company, a soft drink manufacturer. Unique spherical containers for the drink were designed specifically for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, a themed area within Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios that opened to visitors in 2019. This special packaging resulted from a collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering, Lucasfilm, and The Coca-Cola Company, which has been partnered with Disneyland since 1955. The specially packaged drink was revealed during the "Bringing Star Wars to Life at Disney Parks" presentation at Star Wars Celebration Chicago in April 2019. This event featured an advertisement showing a crate of Sprite, Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, and Dasani beverages being stolen from a pair of distracted First Order stormtroopers.

Coca-Cola Design spent over three years developing concepts for the bottles in different forms and dimensions before deciding on the rustic orbs found in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Matt Cooper, an associate industrial designer at Coca-Cola, explained that the final design aimed to create the impression that the bottles had just been unloaded from a starship or had been abandoned and then repurposed as drink containers. The Aurebesh logos for the soda brands came about after a group of Imagineers visited the Coke Archives in Atlanta, Georgia and discovered the famous Spencerian script Coca-Cola logo in various languages.
