Corporate Sector Authority

The Corporate Sector Authority (CSA), also referred to as CorpSec, functioned as a corporate authority governing the Corporate Sector located in the Outer Rim region of the galaxy.

During the New Republic Era, the CSA expanded the Corporate Sector Authority Security Police and utilized militarized forces to maintain control. The CSA and its military aligned themselves with the First Order, suppressing a revolt on Basta Core. Leading up to the Cold War, the Corporate Sector Authority provided monetary backing to the First Order.

History

Initial Development

Before the Imperial Era, the Corporate Sector consisted of a collection of independent, loosely connected star systems. Operating independently from the Galactic Republic, the Corporate Sector became a haven for various corporations, as well as tax evaders, arms merchants, and pirates—particularly within the Salient system. Although not yet a fully unified entity, a significant portion of the sector showed support for the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. By 17 BBY of the Imperial Era, these star systems were gradually consolidating into a single entity. This consolidation was a key factor in the Galactic Empire's decision to occupying the Salient system, located on the edge of the sector, as a warning to systems defying its authority.

Imperial Period

Ultimately, these systems merged to form the Corporate Sector Authority. Despite the Corporate Sector's backing of the CIS during the Clone Wars, Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine opted not to integrate its territory into the Empire. Instead, CorpSec was permitted to extend its influence over tens of thousands of systems, placing them under CSA control.

The CSA and the Empire established a cooperative relationship, with the Authority providing services and goods to the Imperials. In return, the Empire offered security assistance to the Corporate Sector when necessary. For example, when pirates became active in the sector and initiated raids, Admiral Wullf Yularen was sent to address the issue in a campaign. On one occasion, the criminal Big Bunji collaborated with smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca on a scheme involving the distribution of fraudulent Authority cash vouchers to impoverished individuals on the far side of the Cron Drift. Similar to its dealings with the Empire, the CSA also supplied goods and services to the Rebel Alliance.

Era of the New Republic

Enric Pryde used the code name Steadfast to conceal the First Order partnership with the CSA.

During the New Republic Era, the Corporate Sector Authority Security Police expanded, and a clandestine alliance formed between the CSA and the emerging First Order in the Unknown Regions. By 21 ABY, the CSA commanded an army of Espos equipped with advanced armor and weaponry compared to their security police predecessors. Concurrently, the CSA secretly financed the Imperial remnant. High Colonel Enric Pryde, an officer from the remnant, collaborated with the CSA as a supervisor and was granted authority over its forces. Viceprex [Coromun](/article/coromun], a CSA official, served as Pryde's second-in-command. To conceal the remnant's connection to the CSA, Pryde was assigned the code name Steadfast.

During a CSA mission on Basta Core, the Jedi hunter Ochi of Bestoon, an operative of the Sith Eternal cult on Exegol, sought out Steadfast for assistance in locating Dathan, Miramir, and their daughter Rey. Steadfast reassigned a company of CSA troopers to Ochi's command, disregarding Coromun's objections. Despite the CSA's support, Ochi initially failed to capture Rey and her family and returned to Steadfast requesting additional CSA [troops](/article/troop]. Steadfast denied the hunter's request, terminating their agreement and warning Ochi to stay out of the Corporate Sector.

During the Cold War, General Leia Organa, leader of the Resistance, received intelligence indicating that the Corporate Sector Authority was providing monetary support to the First Order. The First Order was funneling substantial funds to Senator Erudo Ro-Kiintor's accounts through shell corporations and third-party entities, utilizing the CSA as a conduit.

Sturg Ganna, a former Councillor, was beyond the reach of both the Canto Bight Police Department and the Corporate Sector Authority Security Police.

Structure

Military Aspects

The Corporate Sector Authority wielded significant power, exercising control over the Corporate Sector. The CSA maintained a fleet comprising capital ships, and its Security Police acted as the primary law enforcement agency within the Sector. This police force consisted of at least three divisions: the Ground Forces, Locational Enforcement, and Situational Enforcement. The [Picket Fleet](/article/picket_fleet] functioned as the Corporate Sector Authority's naval force. Viceprex was an official rank within the CSA's hierarchy.

External Engagements

The Corporate Sector Authority prioritized its own interests and profitability. Consequently, the CSA established economic ties with both the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic. The CSA and the Empire maintained a collaborative relationship, with the CSA offering services and goods and receiving security assistance within the sector from the Empire.

Later, the CSA extended its support to the First Order, a successor to the Galactic Empire, during a period of heightened tensions with the New Republic, the then-current galactic government. The First Order channeled significant funds through shell corporations and third-party entities via the Corporate Sector Authority into the personal accounts of a Republic senator.
