Dagobah Slug Slinger

The cocktail known as Dagobah Slug Slinger was a potent alcoholic beverage. Its sweetness came from either the slime of the Dagobah swamp slug – the drink's namesake – or an artificial syrup called Dagobah Slug Syrup. This drink was available at Oga's Cantina, situated in Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu, back in 34 ABY. Before her attempt to recruit individuals for the Resistance, the human spy Vi Moradi enjoyed this particular beverage at that location.

In that same year, Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs featured recipes for both the cocktail and its syrup in his cookbook, titled The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook. Sometime after 35 ABY, the drink was referenced in a journal penned by Ardis San Tekka, who served as the Director of Creature Cartography for the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts.

Description

Named after the swamp slugs that are native to the swamp planet of Dagobah, the Dagobah Slug Slinger was a green cocktail. These sizable slugs produced a sweet slime with aromatic hints of herbs from their diet, which was then used to sweeten various desserts and drinks. The cocktail's blend of sweet, herbaceous slime and a tangy citrus juice base effectively masked its high alcoholic content, said to pack a punch even stronger than a master of the martial art Teräs Käsi. A sprig of herb served as the drink's garnish.

History

Back in 34 ABY, the cocktail was on the menu at Oga's Cantina in Black Spire Outpost, located on the Outer Rim planet Batuu. The cantina used slime from swamp slugs, which were kept in tanks behind the bar, to sweeten the beverage. One evening in 34 ABY, Vi Moradi, a human female spy working for the Resistance, visited the cantina with her Batuuan colleagues following her first day's employment at Savi & Son Salvage. Acting on the suggestion of her coworker Ylena, Moradi began her evening by ordering a Dagobah Slug Slinger. After purchasing the second round, she made an unsuccessful attempt to recruit her new companions into the Resistance.

Strono Tuggs (pictured) included a recipe for Dagobah Slug Slinger that used imitation syrup in his cookbook.

To serve as a substitute for slime when slugs were unavailable, Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs invented an artificial syrup known as Dagobah Slug Syrup. In 34 ABY, Tuggs published his cookbook, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which provided recipes for both his imitation syrup and the Dagobah Slug Slinger. That same year, Eloc Throno, a historian, featured a photograph of the Dagobah Slug Slinger in his Batuu travel guide, Traveler's Guide to Batuu, identifying it as one of the offerings at Oga's Cantina.

No earlier than 35 ABY, Ardis San Tekka, the Director of Creature Cartography for the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts, along with her safari droid B8-T5, paid a visit to Batuu while studying non-sentient creatures across the galaxy. While at Oga's Cantina, San Tekka sampled a Dagobah Slug Slinger as her droid engaged in conversation with R-3X, the cantina's DJ. B8-T5 later mentioned his owner's consumption of the Dagobah Slug Slinger in an annotation within her journal, specifically in a section dedicated to swamp slugs. San Tekka also noted in the same journal that the exquisite nature of the swamp slugs' slime had resulted in the export of smaller specimens from Dagobah, where they were kept in captivity for chefs to harvest their slime for use in dishes and drinks.

Behind the scenes

The drink at a real-world Oga's Cantina

The Dagobah Slug Slinger is one of the alcoholic beverages available for purchase by patrons at the real-world Oga's Cantina bar, situated within the themed area Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Its official announcement to the public occurred on February 27, 2019, via an article on the website of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club. It became available for guests to order when the land opened in both Disneyland Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2019. The menu describes it as containing "Herradura Reposado Tequila, Bols Blue Curaçao, Citrus Juices, Ginger, Herbs, and Bitters."

A recipe for the cocktail, designed for use outside the Star Wars universe, is included in the 2019 cookbook Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, authored by Marc Sumerak and Chelsea Monroe-Cassel. The recipe calls for Dagobah Slug Syrup, lime juice, orange juice, blue curaçao, tequila, and water. These ingredients are combined and shaken, then poured over ice, and finally garnished with a sprig of rosemary.

The 2020 non-canon video game expansion The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu features Dagobah Slug Slingers as a beverage sold to the player's Sims by the Oga's Cantina vendor located in the Black Spire Outpost neighborhood. Upon their Sim consuming the drink for the first time, the Sim automatically learns the recipe and gains the ability to prepare it at mixology bars in their own home neighborhood.
