FN-2199

FN-2199, who was known by the moniker "Nines," was a male human stormtrooper in service to the First Order during the decades that followed the Galactic Civil War. He fought alongside his close friend and comrade, FN-2187. After FN-2187 deserted, Nines engaged his former ally in combat during the Battle of Takodana. Nines accused the former trooper of treason, and initially had the advantage, but was fatally shot by Han Solo before he could kill FN-2187.

Biography

Early life

Within the decades after the Galactic Civil War, FN-2199 was a stormtrooper serving the First Order. He underwent training in the FN Corps with FN-2000 "Zeroes," FN-2003 "Slip," and FN-2187 "Eight-Seven," and chose the nickname "Nines" simply because he liked how it sounded. They were trained by Captain Phasma, and spent most of their time practicing in simulated combat. During their first mission, the FN Corps was deployed to the mining facility on Pressy's Tumble, located in an asteroid field, and given orders to kill the striking workers (strike). Despite initial hesitation, Nines complied with the order once Slip and Zeroes began to fire.

First Order–Resistance war

FN-2199 "Nines" faced his former comrade Finn during the Battle of Takodana.

During the conflict between the First Order and the Republic-supported Resistance, Kylo Ren of the Knights of Ren was in search of a piece of a map that would lead to Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, who had disappeared years prior. This map was in the possession of BB-8, an astromech droid that the First Order tracked down to the castle of the pirate Maz Kanata on the planet Takodana. Nines was among the soldiers in the division that accompanied Ren to Takodana, where they sought to acquire the droid at the start of the new galactic conflict. By this time, FN-2187 had already defected from the First Order after witnessing the massacre on Tuanul on Jakku.

During the raid on Takodana, Nines encountered his former comrade, now known as Finn. Armed with a Z6 riot control baton against Finn's Jedi lightsaber, Nines attempted to defeat the former stormtrooper in a one-on-one fight. Although he gained the upper hand in their duel, knocking Finn to the ground with a blow to the torso, Nines was eventually gunned down by Han Solo, who used Chewbacca's bowcaster to shoot the unsuspecting trooper.

Personality and traits

Nines was a loyal stormtrooper who denounced Finn as a traitor to the First Order.

Nines was a male human with light skin, blue eyes, and red hair. Having been trained since birth, he was a dedicated soldier in the armed forces of the First Order, even to the point of executing civilians despite his own reservations. Nines was angered by Finn's desertion from the Stormtrooper Corps, and he denounced his former friend as a traitor. He chose to engage Finn with only a melee weapon, discarding his F-11D blaster rifle and riot shield.

Skills and abilities

Using only a riot baton, FN-2199 was able to defeat FN-2187, also known as "Finn", in close combat. He managed to knock the defected stormtrooper to the ground, but Han Solo shot and killed him with Chewbacca's bowcaster.

Behind the scenes

The novel Before the Awakening, written by Greg Rucka in 2015, marked the first appearance of FN-2199. He then appeared in the 2015 film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, which was the first movie in the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

FN-2199 became an internet meme for his declaration of "Traitor" against Finn before throwing down his weapons.

The scene in the movie where he yells "Traitor!" at Finn quickly went viral shortly after the film's release. Before his official name was revealed, fans had nicknamed the character "TR-8R". Due to his popularity with fans, FN-2199 became the subject of numerous Internet memes.

In the free-roam mode of LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens, FN-2000 can be found on Takodana, mourning the death of FN-2199 during the battle. FN-2000 gives the player a side mission, asking them to recover FN-2199's stun baton, which mercenaries on Takodana have stolen. Completing this mission rewards the player with a gold brick.
