Fondor

Fondor, a planet situated within the Colonies region, rose to prominence during the Galactic Empire's reign. It functioned as a crucial Imperial manufacturing center, boasting numerous orbital shipyards collectively known as the Fondor Shipyards. As the Galactic Civil War progressed, Fondor became the target of two distinct attacks launched by the Rebel Alliance against the Empire, with the latter resulting in an Imperial loss. Later, during the First Order-Resistance War, the First Order took control of the shipyards.

Description

Located in the Colonies region of the galaxy at grid square L-13, Fondor presented a distinctive appearance. Its surface exhibited a purple hue, adorned with interconnected bright lines and circular patterns. Furthermore, Fondor possessed at least one moon.

History

Clone Wars

Count Dooku, leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, planned to capture Fondor.

In the waning years of the Galactic Republic, the transportation of lommite from Eriadu to Fondor via Malastare played a significant role in Eriadu's economic activities. During the Separatist Crisis, Count Dooku, the leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, suggested that Fondor might align itself with the Confederacy rather than the Republic. This proposition was aimed at persuading Governor Wilhuff Tarkin of Eriadu to support the Confederacy. However, Tarkin expressed skepticism about Fondor's willingness to join, suspecting a potential forceful takeover by the Confederacy. Ultimately, he declined the offer and sided with the Republic, which later emerged victorious from the subsequent Clone Wars and underwent a reformation to become the Galactic Empire.

Imperial Era

Following the Empire's establishment, Fondor transformed into a significant manufacturing hub. Its large [shipyards](/article/shipyard] rivaled those of Scarif and Kuat in scale and importance. Fondor became a haven for numerous loyal Imperial citizens, including scientists and officers. The shipyards served as a center for Imperial research and development, focusing on classified technologies. Projects such as the climate disruption arrays had their early development partially rooted in Fondor.

In 14 BBY, the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Sovereign was stationed at Fondor, with Commander Abel LaSal serving onboard.

Luthen Rael, the leader of the Axis network during the early rebellion against the Galactic Empire, hailed from Fondor.

Galactic Civil War

After the Battle of Endor, Commander Iden Versio of Inferno Squad was summoned back to a shipyard orbiting the planet. There, she received instructions for Operation: Cinder from her father and a sentinel droid. Following the securing of climate disruption arrays to the ISD Dauntless, the shipyards faced an attack by the Rebel Alliance. Shortly before the Battle of Jakku, another battle unfolded between Imperial and New Republic forces, ultimately leading to the Galactic Empire's defeat.

First Order-Resistance war

The Resistance sought assistance from Fondor, but their request was denied. Subsequently, the First Order arrived on the planet, searching for any signs of Resistance activity. Despite Fondor's historical allegiance to the Empire, its tradition of independence, and its rejection of the Resistance's plea for aid, Supreme Leader Kylo Ren ordered the seizure of the shipyards on charges of treason. He also executed a Fondor official who protested against these actions.

Behind the scenes

Fondor was initially referenced within the new Star Wars canon in the novel Tarkin, penned by James Luceno and published in 2014. Its complete debut took place in the campaign of DICE's 2017 video game Star Wars Battlefront II. Prior to this, Fondor had been established within the Star Wars Legends continuity in the novel Han Solo at Stars' End, authored by Brian Daley and released in 1979.
