The Invulnerable, a Providence-class Dreadnought, saw action in the Clone Wars as part of the Separatist Alliance's naval branch. This warship functioned as the command ship and also the flagship for the Separatist Admiral Trench of the Harch during the Outer Rim Sieges in 19 BBY, specifically in a campaign that took place on the planet Anaxes. Furthermore, it was Trench's fleet's primary warship during the conflict, as they were attempting to seize control of critical Galactic Republic shipyards located on the planet's surface.
However, near the conclusion of the battle, a squad of Republic clone commandos under the command of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker managed to infiltrate the Invulnerable as part of their mission to liberate Anaxes from the Confederacy. Once aboard the dreadnought, the Republic forces used the ship's communication systems to trigger a specially designed feedback pulse, which had the effect of disabling the Separatist Droid Army engaged in combat on the planet below. Subsequently, the Harch met his end aboard his flagship after activating a bomb within the manufacturing facility, which then resulted in the Invulnerable's destruction via an activated self-destruct mechanism.
The Invulnerable, a Providence-class Dreadnought, was fabricated by the Quarren shipbuilders of the Free Dac Volunteers Engineering Corps at the manufacturing facilities located on the planet Pammant. The dreadnought was controlled by a crew of B1-series battle droids from a command bridge, and the vessel was propelled through space by three Creveld-4 radial ion drives made by Nubia Star Drives, Inc., which were positioned at its rear. The Invulnerable also featured a hangar bay on its starboard side, along with a number of communications and sensor masts situated along the hull of its upper surface. Furthermore, the warship was equipped with a variety of weapon systems distributed across its hull, including numerous heavy quad turbolaser cannons and dual heavy laser cannons, with the former being located on its dorsal and starboard surfaces and the latter on its ventral hull. The Invulnerable also had scanning systems that could identify approaching ships and their class. Inside, the dreadnought housed a number of hallways and corridors patrolled by security droids, and it carried various combat units, including B1-series battle droids, B2-series super battle droids, and BX-series droid commandos. Its interior also contained the vessel's communications vault, which was constructed during the Battle of Anaxes. This vault could be accessed via a scomp link, allowing an individual to control the ship's transmitters and send orders to ground forces or the command bridge.
The bridge itself offered the operating crew a 180-degree panoramic view of the surrounding space through multiple viewports. It also featured several display screens for the crew and the commanding officer, Admiral Trench of the Separatist Alliance, to monitor surface engagements and operate the ship's systems. Additionally, the Invulnerable was equipped with a self-destruct mechanism that could be activated remotely via a detonator located on the command bridge.
In 19 BBY, as the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems neared their end, Confederacy forces under Harch Admiral Trench launched an assault on the planet Anaxes. This planet was a significant shipyard and stronghold for the Republic during the war. Trench commanded the battle from orbit aboard his flagship, the Invulnerable, and managed to achieve several key early victories with his droid forces. These victories weakened the Republic's hold on the planet due to increasing losses and intense battles.
However, later in the battle, Trench, who was suspected of countering the Republic's tactics using a strategy algorithm designed by a clone trooper, was informed by his forces of a connection established with the Techno Union world of Skako Minor. The Separatist dreadnought had been receiving counteractive information to the Republic's engagements from Skako Minor. Consequently, from the Invulnerable, the Separatist admiral contacted the Techno Union's leader, Foreman Wat Tambor, to express his concerns that the corporation's operations were potentially jeopardized due to the Republic's discovery of the algorithm's signal.
Following the Republic's mission to Skako Minor, Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, along with the clone commando squad Clone Force 99, returned to Anaxes with CT-1409, also known as "Echo," an Advanced Recon Commando clone trooper who had previously been presumed dead. Upon their return, the Republic began planning to retake the planet. Echo explained that while Republic forces led by Jedi General Mace Windu attacked the assembly complex, Clone Force 99 would bring him aboard the Invulnerable to access the dreadnought's newly established communications vault.
As the Republic's infiltration team approached the Invulnerable, the dreadnought's battle droid crew detected their Omicron-class attack shuttle, the Marauder. However, the crew allowed the shuttle to land after it concealed itself as one of the Confederacy's shuttles. Subsequently, the Marauder docked with the dreadnought's ventral docking bay, and Skywalker, Echo, and Clone Force 99 proceeded to the communications vault. However, as Windu's assault on the assembly complex began, the Invulnerable transmitted a request to the Techno Union to coordinate a counterattack on the Republic using the strategy algorithm. As a result, Echo, who had gained access to the dreadnought's systems, intercepted Trench's transmission and secretly provided a new strategy. This strategy instructed all Separatist ground forces to mobilize to the assembly plant, under the guise that the Republic would not send reinforcements and would rely solely on the Jedi.
After the Separatist forces arrived at the assembly complex, Echo transmitted a feedback pulse that deactivated all battle droids engaged on the surface. As Trench observed the battle, he grew frustrated by the droid army's deactivation. His tactical droid informed him that they had detected an energy surge originating from the Invulnerable. In response to the energy pulse, the Harch ordered the dispatch of security droids to attack the infiltrators and relayed orders to activate a bomb hidden within the assembly complex, which was powerful enough to destroy most of the planet.
However, while Echo provided the codes to deactivate the bomb, he was unable to relay the final number due to signal jamming from the dreadnought's crew. As a result, as Trench attempted to escape from the Invulnerable, he was forced to provide the final number following an incursion onto the command bridge by Skywalker, which ultimately led to Trench's death at the Jedi's hands. While departing the dreadnought aboard their shuttle, after a brief engagement with several battle droids, the Invulnerable was destroyed along with several other Separatist warships by the activation of a self-destruct mechanism by the clone commando Wrecker.
The Invulnerable was commanded by the Harch Separatist Admiral Trench and operated by a crew of B1-series battle droids from the vessel's command bridge. Trench's personal ST-series military strategic analysis and tactics droid also assisted in maintaining the dreadnought and informed the Harch of ongoing surface engagements.
The Invulnerable made its initial appearance, albeit only in the opening newsreels, in "The Bad Batch," the premiere episode of the seventh season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, which premiered on February 21, 2020. It later fully appeared in "Unfinished Business," the fourth episode of the seventh season, which aired on March 13, 2020. The dreadnought was later identified in the 2021 reference book Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy.
