Kenner Loring

Kenner Loring was a human serving as an officer within the Galactic Empire's army. After his time at the Imperial Academy of Uyter, he rose to command the 204th Imperial Fighter Wing and ultimately achieved the rank of grand general by the time the Galactic Civil War was drawing to a close. Following the Battle of Endor and the subsequent death of the Emperor, Loring's own splinter group within the Empire presented an issue for Fleet Admiral Gallius Rax, who was the "de facto" ruler of the now-fragmented Empire. Loring entered into a conspiracy with Commander Valent, but Rax discovered their connection and orchestrated the commander's demise.

Biography

Broken Empire

Grand General Loring led his own faction in Endor's aftermath, using Malastare as a holding station for his forces.

Loring began his military service by attending the Galactic Empire's officer training academy located on the planet of Uyter, where he was a contemporary of the future commander, Valent. Sometime before the Battle of Endor, which took place in 4 ABY, Loring gained control of the 204th Imperial Fighter Wing, leveraging this position to climb the ranks of the Imperial Military. By the latter stages of the Galactic Civil War, Loring had achieved the rank of Grand General within the Imperial Army. Some Imperial personnel, including Rae Sloane, questioned how the grand general had been promoted ahead of General Hodnar Borrum, a long-serving veteran of the Empire.

Following the death of Emperor Palpatine during the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, the Empire began to break apart. Fleet Admiral Gallius Rax asserted de facto rule over the Empire, successfully eliminating some of his rivals by orchestrating a failed summit on the planet Akiva with Sloane's assistance. Meanwhile, Loring and his Imperial faction became an issue for Rax. Loring established himself and his forces on the planet Malastare.

Shakey alliances

Around this time, New Republic forces engaged his Imperial-class Star Destroyer above the world, but were soon defeated by Loring's starfighters. During the battle, Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard, who had similarly entrenched himself in the Anoat sector with his Iron Blockade, made contact with Loring, wishing to form an alliance. In their conversation, Loring commented on the Akiva Summit and the state of the Empire, and both complement each others' holdouts. The grand general went on to speak the rumors he had heard, probing Adelhard on his alliances with other Imperials.

The Grand Moff shut down the judgement on his alliances and tried to argue about joining forces further, but Loring cut the transmission. He then turned to an Imperial officer that he had noticed was spying on him, questioning how long the spy had been standing there. The spy, who was New Republic Agent Baumin Deel, ran out of the room, Loring ordering his stormtroopers to stop the fake Imperial officer. Deel attempted to make contact with his superior, Calder Behrens, to warn about Loring and Adelhard conspiring, but stormtroopers arrived and shot the spy.

In 5 ABY, the grand general also conspired with Commander Valent, who was allied with Rax. After concluding Valent to be a potential dissenter, Rax used messages from Grand Admiral Rae Sloane's station to lead Valent and his Star Destroyer, the Scythe, into a New Republic trap with the help of Sloane's aide Adea Rite. The commander was lost along with his vessel.

Personality and traits

As a human, Kenner Loring used his command of the 204th Imperial Fighter Wing as a means to advance his career within the Imperial military, failing to appreciate the true value of the fighter wing itself. Following the Emperor's demise, the grand general became a problem for Gallius Rax's leadership and engaged in a conspiracy with Commander Valent, one of the fleet admiral's associates. During a conversation with Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard, Loring expressed disdain for Admiral Rae Sloane, whom he regarded as an "upstart." However, Adelhard, in turn, considered Loring to be unintelligent.
