Mike Hansen, also identified as Michael D. Hansen, works as a freelance researcher specializing in books and has compiled the content for the Star Wars Epic Collections series and a number of Star Wars Omnibuses released by Marvel Comics. He previously held a position as a writer and editor at Dark Horse Comics, contributing to several Star Wars comic book series.

Beyond his writing contribution to Star Wars Handbook 2: Crimson Empire, Mike served as an assistant editor on various Star Wars titles between 1998 and 2000. These included Crimson Empire, The Last Command (without formal credit), X-Wing Rogue Squadron, Star Wars Handbook, Star Wars Special: The Constancia Affair, Mara Jade: By the Emperor's Hand, The Jabba Tape, Prelude to Rebellion, Boba Fett: Enemy of the Empire, Vader's Quest, and the Episode I one-shot comics Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Queen Amidala, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Episode I: The Phantom Menace ½. He also worked on Star Wars 0, Outlander, The Bounty Hunters, Star Wars Tales, Podracing Tales, Union, Chewbacca (uncredited, collaborating with Dan Harris), and Emissaries to Malastare.

Working alongside editor Peet Janes, Mike played a role in guiding the Star Wars comic book series into the era of the prequels in 1999. He also represented the Dark Horse Star Wars comic book line at the inaugural Star Wars Celebration.

Since 2015, Mike's research has been dedicated to the contents of all of Marvel's Star Wars Epic Collections series. The aim is to reprint all Star Wars material published by Marvel from 1977 to 1987 in roughly the order they were originally released and the Star Wars material from Dark Horse Comics in chronological order according to the Legends timeline. In addition to determining the content and order of the stories, Mike has been responsible for writing the introductory text summarizing the story so far and assembling the bonus features, which are not part of the main narrative, for each volume of the Epic Collection.

Currently residing in California, Mike is also active as a writer, a retailer of comic books, and a bookseller.
