Raid at the Wretch of Tayron

The battle at the Wretch of Tayron unfolded as an assault by the Pathfinders - an elite group belonging to the Alliance to Restore the Republic - targeting a clandestine Imperial Security Bureau installation situated at the Wretch of Tayron in 4 ABY. The operation began with two Pathfinders, Sergeant Kes Dameron and Sakas, successfully destroying an All Terrain Scout Transport. This destruction led to a critical breach in the facility's defenses, enabling General Han Solo and his Pathfinders to gain entry. Following their infiltration, they swiftly secured the surrender of the base's commander and then utilized the protocol droid C-3PO to hack into crucial Imperial intelligence networks. The accessed files exposed Operation: Cinder, a directive issued posthumously by the Emperor instructing Imperial forces to inflict widespread devastation upon numerous worlds as retribution for his demise.

The Alliance leveraged the acquired intelligence to counteract Operation: Cinder across numerous planets, notably including the Emperor's homeworld, the planet Naboo. Furthermore, the information obtained from the raid provided Commander Luke Skywalker and Lieutenant Shara Bey with the necessary clearance codes to recover the remaining pieces of a Force-sensitive tree that had once stood at the center of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant.

Background

In 4 ABY, amidst the ongoing Galactic Civil War, the Alliance to Restore the Republic initiated the Battle of Endor, achieving the destruction of the Galactic Empire's second Death Star. This pivotal battle resulted in the death of the Emperor, Darth Sidious. Subsequently, Imperial commanders received a posthumous order, known as Operation: Cinder, which mandated the devastation of countless worlds following the Emperor's demise. One of these worlds was the Emperor's homeworld, the planet Naboo, targeted by the Empire with over a dozen satellites designed to disrupt and ultimately destroy the planet's climate.

The Assault

As the Empire was attacking Naboo, a Rebel Alliance Special Forces unit, the Pathfinders, under the leadership of General Han Solo, were preparing for a separate operation. Their target was a Imperial Security Bureau black site located at the Wretch of Tayron within the Outer Rim Territories. Prior to the main assault, Pathfinders including Sergeant Kes Dameron and Sakas conducted reconnaissance from vantage points overlooking the base. While spying on the base, Solo, in his role as Strike Leader, requested status reports from his strike teams—Strike One, Strike Two, Strike Three, and Strike Four. Upon receiving confirmation of readiness from all teams, Solo initiated the attack, ordering the launch of rockets at the base. This initial strike eliminated numerous stormtroopers and an All Terrain Scout Transport, throwing Imperial forces into disarray as they realized they were under attack.

Dameron and Sakas assault the base.

The initial assault allowed the Pathfinders to infiltrate the base, facilitated by the AT-ST crash which created a breach on the southeast side of the facility. The Pathfinders fought their way through, eliminating several stormtroopers, scout troopers, and a 74-Z speeder bike before securing the exterior. Solo soon arrived, inquiring about the whereabouts of the rebel protocol droid C-3PO, whose presence was crucial for hacking into the Imperial computers to extract vital intelligence. Chewbacca, Solo's Wookiee companion, located the droid, and the group proceeded to enter the base.

Inside the base, the rebels engaged in combat with the stationed Imperial stormtroopers. The base's commander attempted to escape to the computer systems to wipe the data before the Pathfinders could access it, but the rebel team intercepted him, leading to his surrender. The rebels quickly secured the base, enabling Threepio to bypass Imperial encryption and access the computers. This access revealed information about Operation: Cinder, including the planned attack on Naboo.

Consequences

The rebels utilized the intelligence gained about Operation: Cinder to dispatch a fleet to Naboo, where three N-1 starfighters, piloted by Lieutenant [Shara Bey](/article/shara_bey], Princess Leia Organa, and Queen Sosha Soruna, were already engaged in destroying the satellites. The Rebel fleet, under the command of General Lando Calrissian, engaged the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer and numerous TIE/ln space superiority starfighters attempting to intercept the N-1 starfighters. These operations were successful, resulting in the destruction of the satellites, the salvation of Naboo from Operation: Cinder, and the survival of all three pilots. Over the following months, the Rebellion continued to resist Operation: Cinder, preventing Imperial retribution on numerous worlds.

Bey and Skywalker recover the fragments of the Force-sensitive tree.

Three months after the raid at the Wretch of Tayron, Commander Luke Skywalker, a Jedi Knight, enlisted Lieutenant Bey for a mission to the planet Vetine to recover the two remaining fragments of a Force-sensitive tree that the Emperor had taken from the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant years earlier. Bey impersonated Commander Alecia Beck of the Imperial Security Bureau, utilizing the commander's clearance codes acquired at the Wretch of Tayron. Despite the base commander on Vetine, Commandant Hurron, recognizing Bey's deception, Bey and Skywalker successfully retrieved the tree fragments and escaped Vetine.

Shortly after the Tayron raid, Solo penned a letter to Madine, praising Dameron's bravery during the mission, particularly his leadership in the charge into the Imperial base. Solo also advocated for a retirement compensation package, hoping that he could spend time with his family and live to see his future. Madine approved the request after Dameron's discharge request and responded to Solo's message positively. Later, Kes told his son, Poe Dameron, about the Tayron raid. Poe kept a copy of Solo and Madine's messages about the raid in his flight log after the Battle of Starkiller Base of 34 ABY.
