TL-50 Heavy Repeater

The TL-50 Heavy Repeater, alternatively referred to as the TL-50 Heavy Blaster or simply the TL-50 Repeater, was a heavy repeating blaster rifle model designed to fire volleys of red-hued blaster projectiles. The rifle's robust construction, featuring an integrated power cell, allowed it to accumulate energy for a devastating concussion blast used as a secondary firing mode.

The standard TL-50 Heavy Repeater was characterized by its black coloration and a configuration of three barrels arranged in a triangular formation. The weapon's framework incorporated cooling vents surrounding the triple barrels, with a targeting sight positioned atop. Two horizontal tubes located beneath the weapon connected the front of the rifle to the dark-green stock. A trigger guard was also a feature of this blaster rifle.

A variant of the repeating blaster existed with a dual-barrel design, but it lacked the concussion-blast capability. This modified version, in contrast to the standard TL-50, did not have the horizontal tubes on its underside. The TL-50 could also be customized with an extended primary barrel, equipped with a larger sight to enhance accuracy during sustained fire, and a power cell attached to one side, indicated by two red lights, for improved cooling performance.

The TL-50 Heavy Repeater was specifically manufactured for the Imperial Special Forces during the Galactic Empire's rule. Sometime between 19 BBY and 10 BBY years, Masse Goskey, who owned Masse Goskey's Arms Emporium and Explosives Mart in the Mos Eisley spaceport on the planet Tatooine, and his associate Ephant Mon acquired a TL-50 for a price of 3,200 credits. Mon documented this transaction in a book that would eventually be known as the Smuggler's Guide.

In 3 ABY, an individual was observed wielding a TL-50 Heavy Repeater while riding a speeder bike in pursuit of the outlaw Kay Vess and her merqaal companion, Nix, across a desolate landscape. During the same year, someone in Kijimi City on the Outer Rim Territories planet Kijimi urgently requested a number of weapons, including both a stock and a barrel replacement for a TL-50, promising an additional ten percent payment if the order was fulfilled by the end of the week.

Commander Iden Versio, who led the Empire's special operations unit Inferno Squad during the Galactic Civil War against the Rebel Alliance, also utilized a TL-50 Heavy Repeater until her defection during Operation: Cinder in 4 ABY. Her Heavy Repeater was the standard TL-50 model with three barrels, although it was modified with a power cell. A stormtrooper squad leader also employed a TL-50 Heavy Repeater on at least one occasion.

The TL-50 Heavy Repeater made its debut in the Death Star expansion pack for the video game Star Wars Battlefront, which was released in 2016. The rifle can be unlocked by completing an in-game challenge called "Imperial Instrument," which required achieving twenty kills as an Empire soldier, accumulating seventy-five heavy-blaster kills, and winning a round of the "Battle Station" game mode. However, like all other blasters in the game, the TL-50 is usable by rebel troopers and New Republic soldiers, as well as Imperial stormtroopers.

While the 2018 reference book Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide, authored by Daniel Wallace, does not capitalize the weapon's name, referring to it as "TL-50 heavy repeater," the 2020 Iden Versio and ID10 Commander Expansion for the Star Wars: Legion miniatures game identifies the blaster simply as "TL-50 Repeater." On April 30, 2024, a "Databank Download" preview for Today the Rebellion Dies Squad Pack, a June 7, 2024 expansion for Atomic Mass Games' Star Wars: Shatterpoint miniatures skirmish game, introduced the name "TL-50 Heavy Blaster" for the weapon.

The TL-50's design was created by 3D artist Erik Rading, drawing inspiration from the Imperial Heavy Repeater featured in the Star Wars Legends continuity's 2002 video game Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. Conversely, Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide presents the TL-50 heavy repeater and the Imperial heavy repeater as separate entries in an in-universe list of weapons, effectively establishing them as distinct weapons within the current canon.

The TL-50 also made an appearance in Star Wars Battlefront II, the 2017 sequel to Star Wars Battlefront, where it served as a blaster option exclusive to the heavy trooper class, including heavy battle droids, heavy weapons clone troopers, heavy stormtroopers, heavy rebel soldiers, and megablaster heavy assault troopers. The weapon is accessible to heavy troopers from all factions, such as the Galactic Republic, the Separatist Alliance, the Galactic Empire, the Rebel Alliance, the First Order, and the Resistance. It can be unlocked by defeating 500 enemies while playing as the heavy class.

The blaster is also the primary weapon of the "hero" character Iden Versio in multiplayer mode. However, in the single-player campaign, where she is the main character, the player chooses Versio's weapon. The campaign's cutscenes also show her using an E-11 medium blaster rifle as an Imperial.

In Battlefront II, the TL-50's effective range is notably shorter compared to the original Battlefront. While the blaster's secondary fire is a standard and permanent feature in Battlefront and the campaign of Battlefront II, it is presented as an unlockable modification for the sequel game's multiplayer modes. Alongside the extended barrel and the power cell to improve cooling, the player can only equip two of these three modifications simultaneously in multiplayer.

For the flashback sequences depicting the attack on Din Djarin's homeworld of Aq Vetina in the first season of The Mandalorian live-action series, several concept designs for Death Watch soldiers were developed. One of these designs by concept artist Brian Matyas, entitled "Clan Mando Version 3A," featured a Mandalorian warrior clad in blue armor and wielding a TL-50 Heavy Repeater, a design Matyas considered the closest to resembling an action figure.
