Viscid Bog

The Viscid Bog was a swamp situated in proximity to Rambler's Reach Valley on the Outer Rim planet of Koboh. During the time of the High Republic Era, this location functioned as a source of drinkable water for the Jedi and Republic scientists positioned on Koboh for the purpose of studying the Koboh Abyss and the unusual substance known as Koboh matter. When a cataclysmic Emergence event led to the destruction of Koboh's moon, resulting in planetary devastation, the area suffered collateral damage, causing the water to be tainted with Koboh matter. The resultant concoction was adhesive, thick, and poisonous to the majority of life forms.

Several years prior to 9 BBY, the Lucrehulk-class LH-3210 cargo freighter named Primacy experienced a crash, its core ship embedding itself within the Viscid Bog. As the vessel plummeted towards the surface, numerous Vulture droids were ejected from the ship, impacting into the tar. The wreckage was eventually taken over by the Gen'Dai warrior Rayvis, who consolidated various local gangs into the formidable Bedlam Raiders. They took control of the Primacy's droid army after reprogramming them, and established the swamp as their operational headquarters.

In 9 BBY, Jedi Knight Cal Kestis, together with his droid companion BD-1, and gunslinger Bode Akuna, ventured into the swamp with the objective of rescuing ZN-A4, a High Republic Era droid that had been abducted by Dagan Gera, who was Rayvis's master. Simultaneously, interior designer Wini Eres found herself on Koboh after local wildlife pilfered her datapad. She pursued it to the Viscid Bog, where she became marooned. She soon encountered Zygg Soza, who remained with her. Eventually, the pair developed a romantic connection.

Despite the fact that the majority of creatures meeting their end within the toxic tar, some managed to survive their ordeal. One bogling, an introduced species to Koboh, became coated in the sludge. Despite its small size and lack of aggression, the appearance of the sticky creature caused two prospectors to flee in fear. At some point, a specific mogu entered the toxic tar, subsequently emerging in a considerably more ferocious state. It became known by the name of the Mire Terror. The morass clinging to its body amplified its strength, resulting in the demise of numerous prospectors.
