Wam Lufba

The Yuzzum individual Wam Lufba, a male known as "Bam," first breathed air on the moon orbiting Endor, but he subsequently departed aboard a visiting starship. Ultimately, he was forced into service, working as a pest control specialist at the palace belonging to the Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure on the planet Tatooine.

Lufba was present within Jabba's throne room in the year 4 ABY during a performance by the musical group, the Max Rebo Band, and he bore witness to the enslaved dancer Oola being cast down into the pit where Jabba's rancor resided. Furthermore, the Yuzzum observed Princess Leia Organa, who was then disguised as the bounty hunter Boushh, as she negotiated with the Hutt regarding the bounty placed on the Wookiee Chewbacca.

Biography

Deceived into Enlistment

Wam Lufba, also addressed by the moniker "Bam," was a Yuzzum male hailing from the Forest Moon of Endor. Lufba departed the moon using a visiting starship and his journey concluded on the desert world of Tatooine. There, the Yuzzum was tricked into working as a pest exterminator at the palace that belonged to Jabba Desilijic Tiure, a Hutt crime lord. The pests that Lufba was tasked with eliminating could be quite perilous; however, the Yuzzum's seemingly harmless nature allowed him to overhear the various schemes of the lowlifes that comprised Jabba's court without raising any concerns.

Failure to support Fortuna

Wam Lufba thought better of backing Bib Fortuna after a warning from Fett.

During the year 3 ABY, the bounty hunter Boba Fett took possession of the smuggler Han Solo after Solo had been frozen within carbonite. Given that Jabba had placed a substantial bounty on the smuggler's head, Fett made a commitment to deliver him to the Hutt. However, before he could fulfill this agreement, the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate absconded with Solo. Upon learning of this event, Jabba placed a bounty on Fett's head, prompting the bounty hunter to travel to Jabba's Palace in order to confront the Hutt. Fett was greeted at the palace's entrance by Bib Fortuna, the Hutt's majordomo.

After Fortuna informed Fett that Jabba was unavailable because he was attending the Crimson Dawn's auction for Solo, Wam Lufba and a group composed of other members of the Hutt's court appeared behind the majordomo. The group pointed their weapons at Fett as Fortuna suggested that Fett leave, but the bounty hunter instead reminded Lufba and the others of his deadly reputation. When faced with the reality of potentially dying only for the sake of Fortuna, Lufa and the others silently lowered their weapons. Fett then moved through the crowd with Fortuna to see the invitation.

Termination of Employment

Wam Lufba worked in Jabba's Palace.

During 4 ABY, Lufba stood adjacent to Jabba's throne inside the palace during a performance of the song "Jedi Rocks" by the Max Rebo Band. When the Hutt demanded that they repeat the song, the Yuzzum danced along to the second performance until it was interrupted by Jabba, who dropped the enslaved dancer Oola into a pit below the throne room after she refused his advances. The court then crowded round to watch as Oola was eaten by Jabba's pet rancor, Pateesa.

Once the spectacle was over, the court's attention was drawn to the room's entry way by the sound of blaster fire. The source was revealed to be Princess Leia Organa, disguised as the bounty hunter Boushh, who entered with the Wookiee Chewbacca as her prisoner. While the exterminator watched from beside the throne, Organa demanded double what Jabba was offering as the bounty for the Wookiee, and then threatened the Hutt and his court with a thermal detonator to get her way. While most of the court cowered, the Hutt merely laughed and counter offered with an increased, but not doubled amount. This satisfied Organa, who deactivated the detonator and let Chewbacca be led away. The next day, Jabba and much of his court were killed by Organa and her allies above the Great Pit of Carkoon.

Personality and traits

Wam Lufba possessed brown hair, yellow eyes, and light-toned skin. He was perceived as harmless by the rest of Jabba's court.

Equipment

Lufba utilized a blaster rifle and wore brown shoes. He also occasionally wore black shoes.

Behind the scenes

The maquette of "Yuzzum"

The character of Wam Lufba was conceived for the 1983 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. A prototype model of the character, who was known during production as just "Yuzzum," was built for the film by Nilo Rodis-Jamero and Judy Elkins, with Lufba's design being inspired by early concept art of the Ewok species which depicted them with much longer legs. A puppet of Lufba was then built for the film and was mounted onto the wall of the Jabba's Palace set when the character's scene was filmed on Stage 8 at Elstree Studios between January 25 and February 2, 1982.

The Yuzzum was given a Star Wars Legends name and a backstory by Tim Veekhoven, writing as "Sompeetalay," in the StarWars.com Hyperspace feature What's The Story? The name, which was inspired by the British pop band Wham! and parts of the backstory were then confirmed to be canon in the reference book Ultimate Star Wars released in 2015.
