Attack in an unidentified sector

Late in the era of the Clone Wars, the Separatist cruiser known as the Obrexta III found itself under assault. This attack occurred in a specific sector within the galaxy by forces of the Galactic Republic. The cruiser was in transit, carrying clone trooper CT-6116 "Kix", who the Separatists had captured on Coruscant. Kix was being transported to Count Dooku's palace located on the planet of Serenno, the Confederate leader's base of operations. In an attempt to evade the Republic's assault, B1-CC14, a battle droid stationed on the Obrexta III, randomly entered hyperspace coordinates into the ship's navigation system. This desperate maneuver resulted in the vessel crash-landing on Ponemah, a world situated in the Outer Rim. There, it remained undisturbed for many decades to come.

Prelude

During the Battle of Ringo Vinda, an unexpected event unfolded when clone trooper Tup from the 501st Legion suddenly opened fire on and killed Jedi General Tiplar amidst the ongoing conflict, forcing a Republic withdrawal. This act was triggered by a defect in Tup's behavioral modification biochip, a device implanted in all clones to ensure their obedience in executing Order 66 and eradicating the Jedi Order. This incident sparked concern among Sith Lords Count Dooku and Darth Sidious, fearing it might expose their grand scheme to the Jedi. ARC trooper Fives, Tup's close comrade in the 501st, took it upon himself to investigate the cause of his friend's actions. His investigation led him to uncover the existence of these chips and their presence in every clone. However, when Fives was given the opportunity to present his findings to Supreme Chancellor Palpatine – secretly Sidious – he was falsely accused of attacking the Chancellor, branded a fugitive, and ultimately shot and killed by the Coruscant Guard. This occurred while he was attempting to warn his commanding officers, Anakin Skywalker and Clone Captain Rex, about the chips. Due to the effects of a drug he had been secretly given, which made him appear delusional, Skywalker and Rex dismissed his claims.

Amidst these events that nearly exposed Order 66, Kix, a clone medic and fellow trooper in the 501st, participated in the fighting on Ringo Vinda. He was the first to examine Tup after his inexplicable breakdown. Later, after the legion's return to Coruscant, Kix and some of his fellow clones visited the clone bar known as 79's. There, in the refresher, he was approached by the fugitive Fives, who provided him with the coordinates for a meeting with Skywalker and Rex. Kix grew suspicious of the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Fives and Tup, which had been publicly attributed to a parasite contracted on Ringo Vinda. This parasite supposedly caused their "inhibitor" chips, meant to ensure mental stability, to malfunction. Sometime after the Battle of Anaxes, Kix decided to conduct his own investigation into the matter. However, like Fives before him, Kix attracted the attention of the Sith. He uncovered even more information about the control chips and Order 66 than Fives had, including the fact that Palpatine was not only the mastermind behind the conspiracy but was also a Sith Lord himself. Before he could share his findings, Kix was hunted down and captured on Coruscant by Separatist forces under Dooku's orders. Dooku, disbelieving Kix's claims that he hadn't disclosed his discoveries, had the clone trooper placed in a cryo-cycle stasis pod for transport to Serenno, where he would be personally interrogated by the Count. Kix's pod was then loaded onto the cruiser Obrexta III.

The attack

En route to Serenno, the Obrexta III was traversing an unidentifiable sector of the galaxy when it came under attack from Republic forces. The Republic forces included several LAAT gunships. Tasked with safeguarding its valuable cargo, which held immense significance to the Sith's plans, battle droid B1-CC14 inputted random hyperspace coordinates into the damaged starship's computer systems. This action propelled the Obrexta III into an uncharted region of space.

Aftermath

Ultimately, the Obrexta III arrived at the isolated planet of Ponemah, situated within the Western Reaches of the Outer Rim. The ship subsequently crashed in the planet's treacherous southern polar region, an area known for its ionic dust storms and colossal sandworms. It remained there for over fifty years, with Kix's stasis pod maintaining his life throughout the entire period.

Over time, the Obrexta III gained a reputation for supposedly carrying a legendary lost treasure. This was due to Dooku's fame as the wealthiest individual in the galaxy during his lifetime. However, no one at the time knew that the ship's cargo was valuable primarily for what Kix knew and could reveal about the Sith's plans. Eventually, during the New Republic era, an ionic storm triggered the reactivation of the cruiser's distress beacon. This signal was picked up by numerous bands of pirates on the planet, sparking a race among them to claim the supposed treasure.

When Sidon Ithano, the leader of a Delphidian pirate group, and his crew finally reached the treasure, they were surprised to discover that it was a person rather than valuable items. With the ship on the verge of destruction, Ithano ordered the rest of his crew, along with the unconscious Kix, to evacuate in an escape pod, despite the seemingly impossible odds of survival. Several weeks later, Ithano entered the bar frequented by his crew carrying the Obrexta III's memory core. This core contained the locations of several hidden Separatist bases that had yet to be looted. With nowhere else to go, Kix joined Ithano's crew.
