Bandwin Cor

Bandwin Cor, a male human, held the ranks of colonel and subsequently general within the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War. His duties included collaborating with rebel pilots and issuing punishments for their misbehavior. Notably, he trained numerous pilots for the Alliance throughout the Galactic Civil War, ultimately sacrificing his life during the Battle of Mako-Ta in an attempt to liberate pilots trapped inside Mon Calamari Star Cruisers.

Biography

During the Galactic Civil War, Bandwin Cor was a Colonel in the Alliance to Restore the Republic. Cor authored a formal report to General Jan Dodonna concerning the potential for Alliance Starfighter Command to adopt X-wing starfighters as its primary craft shortly before Operation Buckler. In that report, Cor also noted the agreement of General Antoc Merrick and Commander Garven Dreis, and he detailed the advantages of using the X-wing as Starfighter Command's main starfighter. Cor concluded his report by stating that supplementary materials would be provided to further persuade the accountants. This report was later included in The Rebel Files.

When Senator Mon Mothma escaped to Dantooine during Operation Handoff with the help of the Spectres and Gold Squadron, she created a report detailing various members of Alliance High Command, including Cor, which was later added to The Rebel Files. After the Vulpter data raid and the establishment of Base One on Yavin 4, Cor developed a flight patrol schedule to monitor the area around Yavin and the Gordian Trace Relays. Cor was also mentioned in a subsequent report on the UT-60D U-wing starfighter/support craft by General Merrick, who stated that both Cor and General Dodonna had approved his assessment of the UT-60D. These reports were also included in The Rebel Files.

Although Merrick was in charge of Starfighter Command, he deferred to Colonel Cor for everyday decisions. Cor collaborated closely with General Jan Dodonna to maximize the effectiveness of starfighter resources in the Gordian Reach, the sector encompassing Yavin. Early in the rebellion, Cor had the authority to issue demerits to his pilots for infractions, such as an untidy ready room at Base One.

Cor attended a meeting with the High Command on the subject of the Death Star.

Shortly after the destruction of the Eadu Flight Station, the Alliance High Command convened to discuss the recently confirmed superweapon known as the Death Star. Cor was present at this meeting, where he observed individuals such as Jyn Erso and Admiral Raddus advocating for an attack on the Scarif vault to secure the Death Star plans. However, due to significant opposition, the high command did not approve the plan. After Cor and the others departed, Erso took matters into her own hands, leading a strike team to assault the vault on Scarif. Raddus soon followed with a substantial portion of the Alliance Fleet, resulting in success but also the deaths of Erso, Raddus, Merrick, and many others.

Cor stood with the generals at a meeting at the Mako-Ta Space Docks.

Following the Battle of Scarif, Cor was in Base One's war room alongside General Dodonna, General Vanden Willard, Princess Leia Organa, and others, directing the Battle of Yavin attack against the Death Star. Cor's statement during the battle, noting that Red Squadron and Gold Squadron were approaching visual range of the Death Star, was included in a partial transcript of war room conversations and added to The Rebel Files. During the evacuation of Yavin 4, Lieutenant Wedge Antilles sent a patrol report about a flight by Snoop 2, a Patrol X-wing, of Yavin's perimeter to Colonel Cor. This report was also included in The Rebel Files.

He trained many rebel pilots for the Alliance during the Galactic Civil War, and was promoted to general. Later, he attended a meeting at the Mako-Ta Space Docks, organized by Mothma, to discuss the Alliance's strategy for acquiring more Mon Calamari Star Cruisers. During the meeting, Cor stood between Generals Davits Draven and Jan Dodonna, observing as Organa presented her plan to instigate a mutiny within Mon Cala's merchant fleet. Mothma approved, and Organa successfully obtained numerous cruisers for the Alliance. These cruisers were equipped for war primarily with Shu-Torun technology. A celebration was held soon after. However, as the new fleet prepared to disperse, their hyperdrives malfunctioned due to sabotage of the Shu-Torun technology by its queen, Trios. Darth Vader's Death Squadron then arrived, initiating an attack on the cruisers and destroying General Vanden Willard's flagship, Yavin's Hope, first.

Organa and Cor led a strike team to board Trios' ship before she could escape. They engaged her soldiers, and Cor pulled Organa back as a shot nearly hit her, stating that she was too valuable to lose. Organa responded that everyone was too valuable to lose and that everyone was dying. They soon forced the Shu-Torun soldiers to retreat and headed for the bridge, where Trios was located. Upon reaching the bridge, they began firing on the soldiers. Organa spotted Trios fleeing and attempted to pursue her. Cor instructed her to stay back as the gunfight continued, but Organa insisted it was the only option and ran after Trios. As the gunfight ended, Cor and Draven began searching the ship's database for a way to reactivate the cruisers. Organa returned, having failed to capture Trios, and Draven discovered that launching something at the cruiser's hanger doors could open them, freeing the trapped starfighters. Cor volunteered to pilot a shuttle as he had trained many of the pilots. He flew towards the cruisers amidst the ongoing battle. However, TIE fighters intercepted him, and the shuttle's slow speed prevented him from evading them. Cor's ship soon exploded in a fireball.

Personality and traits

Bandwin Cor was a male human with black hair and brown skin and eyes. He was a highly effective leader who played a significant role in the Alliance Starfighter Command. Despite holding the rank of Colonel at the time, Cor worked closely with Generals like Jan Dodonna. Col Takbright remembered him for issuing demerits to rebel pilots for their misconduct. During a firefight on Trios' ship, he saved Organa from a blaster shot, emphasizing her importance. Subsequently, when Draven determined that someone needed to fly at the cruiser's hanger doors to open them, Cor volunteered, citing his training of half the pilots they intended to free.

Skills and abilities

Despite holding a higher rank, General Antoc Merrick frequently consulted Bandwin Cor for day-to-day decisions. He was also an effective instructor, having trained half of the rebel pilots. Cor's abilities led to his promotion to general. During the Assault on the Mako-Ta Space Docks, he led a strike team with Leia Organa onto Trios' ship.

Equipment

Bandwin Cor wore a beige-brown shirt with a beige jacket, along with beige trousers, a brown belt, and a silver belt buckle. He consistently wore his rank insignia on the right side of his jacket.

Behind the scenes

Bandwin Cor made his initial appearance as a background character in the anthology film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. His identity was later confirmed through Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide. Star Wars lead writer Kieron Gillen decided to kill off Cor, reflecting on how the heroes rose through the ranks so rapidly.
