Battle of Coruscant (Second Imperial Civil War)

The culmination of the Second Imperial Civil War was the Battle of Coruscant. This conflict involved the remaining allied forces of the Empire-in-exile, under the command of the ousted Emperor Roan Fel, the Galactic Alliance Remnant, commanded by Admiral Gar Stazi, and what remained of the New Jedi Order. They faced off against the armies of Darth Krayt and his Sith Empire.

Details

Following their defeat at Taivas and their confrontation with Darth Krayt's elite Sith troopers, [Roan Fel](/article/roan_fel] opted to accept Darth Maladi's proposition. This involved producing the lethal Omega Red and deploying it on Coruscant, the Sith Empire's capital. Fel then successfully persuaded the allied factions to launch an assault on Coruscant before the Sith could regroup. A diverse strike team was transported to Coruscant aboard Cade Skywalker's Helot-class medium space transport, the Mynock.

This team included Skywalker, Deliah Blue, Jariah Syn, Wolf Sazen, Shado Vao, Rasi Tuum, Skywalker's mother, and former Director of Imperial Intelligence, Morrigan Corde, along with the Imperial Knights Azlyn Rae, Sigel Dare, and Ganner Krieg. The team's mission was to disable the planetary defenses, allowing the strike force to penetrate Coruscant's atmosphere. Subsequently, the allied fleet entered the system and engaged with Sith Annihilator-class starfighters. Rogue Squadron and Skull Squadron descended to the surface for a bombing run, while the Jedi Twin Suns Squadron remained in space. As the battle intensified, the strike team infiltrated the Sith Temple using secret routes known to Cade and Shado.

Wolf Sazen and Darth Stryfe strike each other down.

However, they were intercepted by a group of Sith warriors led by Darth Talon and [Darth Stryfe](/article/darth_stryfe], Krayt's top lieutenants. Upon encountering each other, the two groups immediately clashed. Sigel Dare was stabbed during the confrontation. Skywalker engaged Darth Talon and emerged victorious. Wolf Sazen faced Darth Stryfe in a swift duel that concluded with both combatants dying, resulting in Sazen becoming one with the Force. Vao then urged Skywalker to pursue Krayt, while they held off the remaining Sith. Darth Talon, recognizing Skywalker's increased power, retreated to warn Krayt, prompting Skywalker to pursue her.

Concurrently, despite K'Kruhk and other Jedi Masters employing battle meditation, the space battle was not progressing favorably for the allied forces. The Fist of the Empire was destroyed by Annihilator-class starfighter attacks. As the ship fell, Roan Fel and Antares Draco went to Maladi to receive Omega Red from her. After they departed, she proclaimed her loyalty to Lord Krayt and escaped from her prison.

Fall of Emperors

Darth Nihl updated Darth Krayt on the battle's status, asserting that despite the loss of their defensive grid, the Annihilators were shifting the battle in their favor. At that moment, a severely wounded Darth Talon arrived to warn Krayt of Skywalker's imminent arrival. After delivering her warning, she was violently Force pushed against the wall and was knocked out as Skywalker came out of the shadows with his lightsaber ignited.

Krayt used the Force to push him away, reminding him that he had fled during their previous encounter. Krayt also emphasized his increased power and urged Cade to surrender. Skywalker countered by acknowledging the lessons he had learned from Darth Talon and Krayt, adding that he improvised as he went. Krayt dismissed this and asserted that he and his allies were destined to lose the battle before attacking him with Force lightning.

During their duel, Krayt mocked Cade, attributing his survival to his unique healing powers, claiming that Cade had revealed it to him, but Karness Muur had taught him how to control and use it. Krayt then turned Cade's own power against him, subjecting him to the same transformation he had undergone. Believing that Cade had finally succumbed to the dark side, Krayt declared him his apprentice. Cade arose and proclaimed that he finally understood his path. However, instead of embracing the Sith, Cade exploited Krayt's overconfidence by swiftly reclaiming his lightsaber and spearing the Dark Lord in the chest, reaffirming his identity as a Jedi. This time, having sustained a fatal blow before he could utilize Cade's unique abilities, Darth Krayt met his true demise.

Roan Fel is killed by Antares Draco.

Simultaneously, aboard the Jagged Fel, Roan Fel attempted to deploy Omega Red on Coruscant, unaware that it would eradicate all life except for the Sith, who possessed immunity. Marasiah and Treis Sinde protested, prompting Fel to use the Force to hurl both his daughter and longtime friend against a wall. Marasiah, too weak to intervene, implored Draco to stop him. Fel declared that Draco had proven his unwavering loyalty to him, but Draco, influenced by his recent experiences, had ultimately recognized that his allegiance belonged first and foremost to the Force, rather than the emperor. Upon declaring his loyalties, and reminding Fel that his oath required him to kill the emperor if he couldn't turn him back to the light side, both master and student drew their lightsabers and engaged each other.

Draco implored Fel to trust in the Force and allow it to finish Krayt. But Fel claimed that their allies were useless and that he needed to enforce his own will on the Galaxy. Soon after, Draco felt Krayt's death at Skywalker's hands, but Fel refused to back down. Fel punched Draco in the face and went to launch Omega Red, but Draco returned and, realizing he needed to stop Fel in time, stabbed the emperor in the back, killing him.

With Darth Krayt's death, his Sith troopers descended into madness, severed from his will. Darth Nihl seized control as the leader of the One Sith, initiating his reign by ordering the extermination of all Sith Troopers. Subsequently, he commanded the Sith to evacuate both Coruscant and Korriban, acknowledging that the war was lost.

Aftermath

Despite Krayt's death, Cade was determined not to repeat his error at Had Abbadon. He seized Krayt's body and piloted it into Coruscant's sun. Initially, Cade intended to pilot the ship himself, fearing the possibility of Krayt's spirit possessing his body. However, Luke Skywalker appeared to him to talk him out doing so. Luke assured his descendant that Krayt was truly defeated and that Cade, despite his vision indicating he would die fighting Krayt, was still alive. Cade heeded his ancestor's counsel and ejected from the ship before it collided with the sun. Krayt's body was incinerated, and Cade witnessed the dissipation of Krayt's spirit. After being rescued by his companions, Cade declared that he was finally free to live his life as intended.

In the aftermath, the allied forces organized a funeral for Roan Fel, with the witnesses to his demise omitting the details of his descent into darkness. The allies also established the Galactic Federation Triumvirate, uniting a significant portion of the known galaxy.

Nihl recalled all remaining Sith and instructed them to prepare to infiltrate every planetary government, with the intention of striking from the shadows.
