Butcher of Brix

The Butcher of Brix, an insectoid warlord, spent some time on the planet Daiyu concurrently with the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi's presence there in 9 BBY. Later, in 34 ABY, when Resistance operatives entered Canto Casino within the city of Canto Bight on the planet Cantonica, he was found as a patron.

Biography

This insectoid warlord, the Butcher of Brix, hailing from Brix, was situated on the faraway planet Daiyu during the Imperial Era of the Galactic Empire in 9 BBY. As the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi was being offered spice by spice dealer Tetha Grig, the Butcher was standing with two humans on a street on Daiyu.

In 34 ABY, the Butcher of Brix frequented the Canto Casino in the city of Canto Bight located on the planet Cantonica. While Finn, Rose Tico, and BB-8 of the Resistance were searching for the Master Codebreaker and entered the casino, the warlord stood at a gambling table within the casino next to an alien wearing a white dress. Later, the Butcher was near Snook Uccorfay at another table when Dobbu Scay, a drunken patron, bothered BB-8.

Personality and traits

The Butcher of Brix possessed black, chitinous skin, a white-fronted torso marked with a red stripe in the center, four red eyes, and spider-like mandibles. The pronouns it/its and he/him were both used to refer to the Butcher.

Equipment

While present on Daiyu, the warlord was seen wearing a black cape.

Behind the scenes

Concept art of the Butcher of Brix

The Butcher of Brix was brought to life as a fully animatronic character for the 2017 sequel trilogy movie, Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi. Ivan Manzella, a creature concept designer, created concept art of the character, initially titled "King 11". In the film's preliminary drafts, it was revealed that the character known as the Master Codebreaker had been observing the Butcher of Brix for over a year and was planning to steal the blood jewels that funded the insectoid warlord's murderous reign, as disclosed to Finn and Rose Tico of the Resistance.

Although the character's name was not included in the film's final cut, its presence in the early scripts was confirmed in The Art of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a reference book by Phil Szostak released alongside the film. Subsequently, the name was used in the non-canon Star Wars Sequel Skin Pack for the video game Minecraft, launched on March 27, 2018. Later, a card from the 2023 Topps Disney Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi set, released by The Topps Company, Inc. in 2023, canonically identified a character from the second episode of the Obi-Wan Kenobi television series, aired on May 27, 2022, as the Butcher.
