Kidnapped

title: "Kidnapped"

"Kidnapped" marks the eleventh installment in the fourth season of the animated television program, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Notably, this episode initiates a three-part narrative arc centered around the slavers originating from Zygerria and the disappearance of the inhabitants of Kiros. Its original broadcast date was November 25, 2011.

Formal Synopsis

"The sudden vanishing of an entire populace from Kiros is traced back to Zygerrian slavers. As Anakin and Ahsoka race against time to neutralize bombs planted by the slavers, Obi-Wan confronts their formidable leader in combat."

Detailed Storyline

Faced with the looming threat of a Separatist invasion, Gupat Roshti, the Togrutan governor presiding over Kiros, opts to engage in negotiations with Count Dooku to safeguard his constituents, recognizing that the aid promised by Yoda will arrive belatedly. Upon arrival, Dooku proposes relocating the Togruta to what he terms "a temporary haven" while his forces engage the Republic army in battle on the planet.

Subsequently, as Republic forces, led by Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka Tano, arrive on Kiros and investigate the colony, they discover the absence of all colonists. Instead, they are confronted by a squad of droid commandos, whom they swiftly overcome. They eventually penetrate the colony, reaching the governor's tower, which serves as the command center for the Separatist occupation force's leader, the Zygerrian Darts D'Nar. D'Nar extends an invitation to Kenobi to participate in surrender talks, a proposition that elicits a vehement reaction from Anakin, who recalls his own childhood spent in slavery on Tatooine. Obi-Wan instructs him to locate the missing colonists and, as Anakin requests Admiral Yularen to initiate a planetary bioscan, he shares with Ahsoka the painful details of his former apprentice's past, a chapter of his life Anakin has concealed from his Padawan.

Contrary to Obi-Wan's expectations, D'Nar harbors no intention of surrendering. Instead, his objective is to capture Obi-Wan and his companions, ensuring their compliance by threatening to execute the colonists with bombs strategically placed throughout the city. By discreetly activating his wrist communicator, Obi-Wan enables Anakin, Ahsoka, and Cody to eavesdrop on the conversation. The two Jedi promptly embark on AT-RTs to locate and disarm the bombs. The Jedi duo battles through the remaining droids in the city, methodically deactivating the bombs. However, the final two bombs are synchronized, designed to detonate if either is tampered with. Before the Jedi can disable them, a pair of sniper droids begins firing upon them, forcing them to take cover behind separate platforms in the square. Nevertheless, they identify a vulnerability in the droids' design, disabling them and disarming the bombs just moments before their detonation.

Simultaneously, to divert D'Nar's attention from the disarming effort, Obi-Wan capitalizes on the Zygerrians' historical animosity towards the Jedi, provoking him into a hand-to-hand duel, stipulating that the loser must surrender unconditionally. To gain time, Obi-Wan refrains from retaliating, but when D'Nar discovers that the Jedi have neutralized his explosives, he attempts to flee, masking his escape with a bomb affixed to the back of his tactical droid. Alerted by Obi-Wan, Anakin and Ahsoka pursue the escaping Zygerrian to his vessel, managing to board it. They disable one of the ship's engines, hindering its escape, and enter through the cargo bay, but D'Nar retaliates by releasing his blixus upon the two Jedi. The blixus attacked, wrapping its tentacles around Skywalker's torso and coiling one around Tano's foot. Tano was able to cut it off and escape, but Skywalker's arms were trapped, making it difficult for him to use the lightsaber. However, after some struggle, Skywalker was able to kill it with his lightsaber after the blixus opened its mouth to eat him. While Anakin grapples with the blixus, Ahsoka stealthily makes her way to the bridge to stabilize the ship. As Anakin eliminates the blixus, Ahsoka engages and defeats D'nar in a duel within the ship's cockpit.

When Anakin aggressively demands that D'Nar disclose the colonists' location, D'Nar reveals that his queen intends to exploit them as commodities in a slave auction aimed at reviving the Zygerrians' ancient tradition of slavery. Concluding his planetary bioscan, Yularen confirms that the colonists are absent from Kiros. The Jedi High Council, suspecting Sith involvement, assigns the three Jedi the task of locating and rescuing the colonists.

Chronological Context

This episode is derived from the television series' adaptation of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Slaves of the Republic comic book series.

As the Republic fleet enters orbit around the planet, it consists of a Venator-class Star Destroyer carrying Anakin and Obi-Wan, two smaller Arquitens-class light cruisers, and a Republic frigate. However, the vessel that descends into the planetary atmosphere is an Acclamator-class transgalactic military assault ship.
