Biography

The Yuuzhan Vong War

Reconnaissance and defense

Kral Nevil, a male Quarren, enlisted in the New Republic Starfighter Corps and earned a position with the renowned starfighter squadron, Rogue Squadron. Nevil was married wife and had a son named Turl. By 25 ABY, Nevil, holding the rank of captain, was flying as Rogue Two alongside Colonel Gavin Darklighter, who was the Rogue Leader. Rogue Squadron was assigned to the fleet commanded by Bothan Admiral Traest Kre'fey, who wanted to investigate reports of an alien incursion in the Outer Rim Territories early in the year. Nevil, whose call sign was "Deuce," and his fellow pilots were stationed on Kre'fey's flagship, the Bothan Assault Cruiser Ralroost. When pirate activity was reported in an Outer Rim star system, Darklighter led the Rogues into space to investigate.

Major Inyri Forge soon detected unidentified signatures in the system's asteroid belt, which turned out to be Uglies, makeshift starfighters built from various components. As Nevil and his fellow pilots engaged the Uglies, it became clear that the starships were already heavily damaged. Darklighter contacted an EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate, which served as the pirates' base, and ordered Urias Xhaxin, the vessel's captain, to stand down his forces. While Darklighter negotiated with Xhaxin, Nevil defended his wingmate from a TYE-wing. Xhaxin surrendered, and Nevil noted that the Nebulon-B escort frigate had sustained significant damage in a previous engagement with an unknown enemy.

Based on Xhaxin's information, Kre'fey organized a reconnaissance mission to another star system where the pirate captain claimed his forces had been ambushed by the Yuuzhan Vong, an alien species said to have begun an invasion of the galaxy. Rogue Squadron provided cover for a T-65R reconnaissance X-wing as it scouted the system. Nevil, Darklighter, and the rest of One flight followed the recon starfighter, while Majors Inyri Forge and Alinn Varth spread out to cover a larger area. Soon, six coralskippers, the term for the organic Yuuzhan Vong starfighters, appeared and engaged Rogue Squadron. Against these asteroid-like starfighters, which used dovin basals to create miniature black holes that stripped shields from New Republic starfighters and absorbed incoming laser beams, Nevil and his fellow pilots had to develop new tactics. Nevil again assisted Darklighter during the brief battle, scoring several kills against Yuuzhan Vong pilots while protecting his wingmate. Although Nevil and Darklighter saved the life of Rogue Seven, the Krish Ligg Panat, Major Alinn Varth reported after the skirmish that two pilots from her flight, Dinger and Tik, had died. Rogue Squadron remained in the system until Admiral Kre'fey arrived with the Ralroost.

After the minor engagement, Nevil and Rogue Squadron accompanied Kre'fey to Dubrillion, where the Yuuzhan Vong threatened the world as it was being evacuated by a convoy of starships from nearby Agamar. Upon the arrival of the Agamarian convoy, the Yuuzhan Vong forces hiding in the system's asteroid belt sent six coralskippers to attack the relief vessels. Nevil and his fellow pilots fought off the Yuuzhan Vong, who for the next four days tested Roque Squadron's response time with small incursions. When the Agamarian convoy prepared to leave the Dubrillion system, Darklighter led Nevil and the other Rogue Squadron pilots to form a small cordon between the departing starships and the Yuuzhan Vong. In the subsequent engagement, Rogue Squadron attacked a Yuuzhan Vong miid ro'ik cruiser, damaging the capital ship. However, the cruiser activated its dovin basals, creating an artificial gravity well that forced the Agamarian convoy to divert to Dantooine. Nevil and his fellow pilots traveled to Dantooine to protect the convoy from further Yuuzhan Vong attacks.

Dantooine and Ithor

Kral was a participant in pivotal confrontations with the Yuuzhan Vong on Dantooine, Ithor, as well as Borleias.

Second Galactic Civil War

By 40 ABY, Kral had transitioned from starfighter duties to naval operations. He was made captain of the Anakin Solo and became the chief aide to Darth Caedus on the command ship following the Battle of Kashyyyk.

Kral's son, Turl, perished when the Corellians used Centerpoint Station against their own fleet in an attempt to eliminate Caedus, an event that deeply affected Kral. Caedus attempted to offer his condolences.

Later, when Kral tried to stop Caedus from killing Lieutenant Patra Tebut after a Jedi-led team boarded the ship and rescued the Hapan Princess Allana, Caedus threw Kral against a bulkhead. After killing Tebut, Caedus couldn't discern whether Kral's expression was fear, anger, or acceptance. Caedus decided he no longer favored either the Mon Calamari or the Quarren.

Following Darth Caedus's murder of Lieutenant Tebut, Nevil conferred with Admiral Cha Niathal concerning the Sith Lord's actions. Niathal was equally horrified by what had transpired, and while she strongly desired to have Solo arrested and charged with murder, she understood that the Galactic Alliance Guard would not permit Solo's arrest or indictment. Nevil continued to captain the Anakin Solo until the Second Battle of Fondor. When Solo defied an order to cease the bombardment of Fondor, Niathal attempted to relieve him of command, but most of the fleet remained loyal to Solo. Nevil then used an escape pod to abandon the Anakin Solo and defected to the faction of the Galactic Alliance loyal to Admiral Niathal.

Personality and traits

Nevil demonstrated skill as a starfighter pilot, often using Quarren idioms and displaying curiosity. He also maintained a positive relationship with Darklighter, his squadron leader.

Behind the scenes

The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia confirmed that Kral Nevil participated in the First Battle of Coruscant during the Yuuzhan Vong War.
