"Meteor Leader" designated the callsign of a pilot who held the commanding position within the New Republic's Meteor Squadron throughout the Galactic Civil War. In the vicinity of 5 ABY, during the invasion of the Galactic Empire's Cerberon system, he spearheaded the squadron during the assault targeted at the planet Troithe's capital district, engaging the district's aerial defenses and TIE strikers.
Subsequently, Meteor Squadron was urgently deployed to provide defense for the planet Catadra against the forces belonging to the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing. While heading towards the world, Meteor Leader communicated the estimated arrival times to Catadra and engaged in a discussion with Wyl Lark from the New Republic's Alphabet Squadron regarding the capabilities of the approaching 204th forces. Furthermore, he instructed two other pilots to cease their unnecessary communication on his designated comm channel. The squadron soon engaged in combat with the attacking 204th TIE fighters, resulting in the loss of the majority of Meteor pilots during the confrontation.
During the period of the Galactic Civil War, the pilot with the callsign "Meteor Leader" commanded Meteor Squadron, a New Republic squadron of X-wing starfighters operating within the battle group of General Hera Syndulla. Approximately around 5 ABY, the battle group initiated an invasion of the Cerberon system, which was under the control of the Galactic Empire. Meteor Squadron actively participated in an operation aimed at seizing control of the city districts located on the planet of Troithe, providing support for missions that necessitated significant firepower alongside the Y-wing starfighters of Hail Squadron. Meteor's X-wings were positioned on standby, with a response time of 20 minutes in case of an emergency, when New Republic forces entered the Thannerhouse District.
Subsequently, Meteor Squadron, under the command of Meteor Leader, participated in an assault directed at Troithe's capital district, known as the Troithe Planetary Defense Center (TPDC). As the squadron engaged in combat against the TPDC's air defenses and TIE strikers, two Meteor pilots were lost due to point-defense emplacements. Simultaneously, Yrica Quell of the New Republic's Alphabet Squadron attempted to retract her X-wing's strike foils to enhance maneuverability. Meteor Leader intervened, arguing that it would diminish Quell's combat effectiveness and instructed his squadron to provide cover while she advanced toward the TPDC's shield generators. Hail Squadron soon joined the battle, and Meteor Squadron repositioned to counter TIE strikers and other enemy attempts to establish an air defense.
Following the battle, Syndulla departed with a portion of her forces, leaving the remaining forces to set a trap for the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing. The 204th eventually arrived in the Cerberon system, with its two vessels, the Imperial II-class Star Destroyer Edict and Quasar Fire-class cruiser-carrier Aerie, targeting Troithe and the planet Catadra respectively. Meteor Leader and his squadron deployed to defend Catadra, with members of Alphabet Squadron following shortly behind. En route to the planet, the squadron commander announced the timings until his squadron decelerated for Catadra, assuring his comrades that they would have time to form up for the 204th attack.
The Alphabet Squadron pilot Wyl Lark inquired whether the Aerie had deployed its complement yet, which Meteor Leader denied, downplaying the cruiser-carrier's weaponry as well. After Alphabet pilot Nath Tensent and Meteor Four, the Rodian Neihero, discussed the Edict's capabilities against Troithe, Meteor Leader joked that they were running for admiral, asking that they cut the chatter. Meteor Squadron soon decelerated in approach to Catadra, and formed up against the Aerie's squadron, nine TIE fighter drones led by three organically manned TIEs. In the ensuing battle, the TIE squadron was whittled down to two TIE pilots, one being immobilized, while Meteor Squadron was almost totally destroyed.
As a pilot, Meteor Leader held the opinion that Yrica Quell needed a greater emphasis on combat capability rather than maneuverability during the assault on the TPDC. While en route to Catadra to confront the Aerie's complement, he expressed skepticism regarding the cruiser-carrier's capabilities. Furthermore, the squadron commander desired to halt the excessive communication on his designated comm channel.
The character of "Meteor Leader" made a vocal appearance in the 2020 novel titled Shadow Fall, which constitutes the second installment of the Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron trilogy authored by Alexander Freed.
