Valen Rudor

Valen Rudor, designated as "LS-607," was a TIE fighter pilot serving the Galactic Empire. Originating from Corulag, this male human was stationed on Lothal five years before the pivotal Battle of Yavin, holding the title of a Baron of the Empire. He, along with a group of stormtroopers, faced an attack from Garazeb Orrelios after the Lasat found himself disoriented within the Capital City of Lothal. Subsequently, Rudor's attempt to summon reinforcements was disregarded by his superior officer. Later on, his TIE/ln space superiority starfighter was destroyed by the Ghost, and its wreckage was discovered in a field by Ezra Bridger, a local con artist. Bridger feigned assistance with the intention of robbing him and selling components of the ship on the black market. In later times, following the arrest and execution of Jho for treason during an Imperial raid, the Empire granted Rudor ownership of Old Jho's Pit Stop.

Biography

Relocation to Lothal

In the year 5 BBY, Valen Rudor, a Baron of the Empire, served as a TIE fighter pilot for the Imperial Navy. This male human, identified by the operating number "LS-607," was convinced by Sienar Fleet Systems to journey to Lothal, a planet situated in the Outer Rim. Sienar Fleet Systems had established factories there and wanted Rudor to evaluate products manufactured in Lothal's most productive facilities. The Galactic Empire then used Rudor's move to Lothal in HoloNet News propaganda broadcasts.

Altercation with Zeb

Rudor calls for backup while holding a blaster on Orrelios.

While inspecting a TIE fighter on a landing platform in Capital City on Lothal, Rudor encountered Garazeb Orrelios, who was being chased by a pair of stormtroopers. After being thrown across the platform by the Lasat warrior, Rudor was briefly rendered unconscious. He regained consciousness when a blaster slid towards him after being dislodged from a stormtrooper's grip. As Orrelios engaged with a small group of stormtroopers, the TIE pilot stood up and aimed the blaster at the Lasat, requesting reinforcements. The Imperial commander who responded inquired about the number of intruders present on the landing pad, causing Rudor to hesitate before demanding reinforcements. While awaiting the arrival of additional Imperial forces, Rudor attempted to shoot Orrelios, but the Lasat evaded his attacks. Orrelios managed to climb atop the TIE fighter, and from there, he grabbed Rudor and threw him back across the landing area. Shortly after, stormtrooper reinforcements arrived, but their exchange of blaster fire with Orrelios triggered an explosion when their shots struck a fuel leak on the TIE fighter, causing it to detonate. Rudor survived the explosion, and Orrelios managed to escape.

Run-in with Ezra

Following the incident with Orrelios, Rudor piloted a TIE fighter in a battle against the Ghost, the ship on which the Lasat served. The Ghost successfully shot down Rudor's fighter, causing it to crash outside Capital City as the rebel ship escaped. Ezra Bridger, an orphaned citizen of Lothal residing in a nearby tower, witnessed the crash. Upon approaching and inquiring about Rudor's well-being, Bridger was met with an angry reaction from Rudor, who demanded that he stay away from the TIE fighter, asserting that it was Imperial property.

Bridger succeeded in opening the TIE fighter's hatch and entered the fighter, pretending to assist the pilot while secretly pilfering parts from the ship for sale on the black market. He then stole Rudor's helmet and departed from the pod. Rudor retaliated by firing the fighter's laser cannons at Bridger, but the boy skillfully employed the Force to evade the blaster fire. Ezra was not yet aware of his Force-sensitive abilities, and Rudor failed to recognize anything unusual about the boy's evasive maneuvers. Bridger responded by firing his energy slingshot, knocking Rudor unconscious and allowing the boy to escape unharmed.

Issues with the Spectres

Rudor targets Orrelios in his TIE fighter.

Some time after his encounter with Bridger, who had since joined Orrelios' rebel cell, known as the Spectres, Rudor encountered Orrelios once more in Kothal, where he found him cornered by two stormtroopers. Seeking to settle the score with the Lasat, Rudor targeted Orrelios with his TIE fighter and instructed the troopers to arrest him. However, Orrelios leaped onto his fighter, ejected Rudor, and commandeered it to rescue Bridger.

During the Empire Day ceremony in Capital City in 4 BBY, Valen Rudor was selected to pilot a prototype TIE Advanced v1 starfighter fresh from the factory. Before his demonstration could begin, the Spectres destroyed the ship and fled offworld with the fugitive Tseebo, who possessed crucial Imperial secrets.

As a Bartender

Rudor "introduces" himself to Ezra and Sabine in disguise.

Three years later, in 1 BBY, the Empire granted Rudor ownership of Old Jho's Pit Stop, a cantina, following the execution of Jho, a member of the Lothal resistance group, for treason. Jho had been arrested during a raid by the Imperial Security Bureau for aiding potential rebels. A few days later, Ezra and Sabine Wren, disguised as civilians, entered the cantina in search of the Lothal resistance. While serving the two rebels drinks, Rudor found Ezra vaguely familiar from their previous encounters. However, he failed to recognize Ezra's true identity. Growing suspicious, Rudor attempted to order their arrest as Ezra and Sabine tried to leave. However, Jai Kell, a member of the Lothal resistance sent by Ryder Azadi to observe the Spectres, quickly extracted the two rebels. Later, after the Spectres and Jai escaped into the sewers of Jhothal through a hatch located in the Pit Stop, Rudor informed DT-L21, a death trooper, that he was unaware the hatch was unsecured.

Personality and Characteristics

Baron Valen Rudor, Imperial Ace

Valen Rudor, originating from Corulag, was a human TIE fighter pilot who relocated to Lothal during the Age of the Empire. He was a renowned and skilled starfighter pilot who served as a test pilot for the Imperial factory situated on the Outer Rim world of Lothal. As an Imperial starfighter pilot, Rudor possessed some physical combat skills, but he was no match for the Lasat warrior Zeb. He was protective of his TIE fighter, considering it Imperial property. Due to his reputation as a skilled pilot, Rudor was honored with the opportunity to fly a prototype TIE Advanced model.

Rudor was later tasked with managing the cantina formerly owned by the late rebel Jho, transforming it into a gathering place for Imperial personnel. Rudor viewed Jho as a traitor. Additionally, Rudor recognized Ezra Bridger but struggled to recall his exact identity. Rudor subsequently led a search for the Spectres and Jai Kell but overlooked an unsecured hatch in his cantina, enabling the rebels to escape and connect with Ryder Azadi.

Behind the Production

Valen Rudor made his debut as a minor character in the first season of the animated television series Star Wars Rebels, which aired on Disney XD in late 2014. Greg Ellis provided the voice for the character. Originally, Rudor was slated to reappear in "The Antilles Extraction," an episode from the third season, as an instructor at the Skystrike Academy. However, Vult Skerris ultimately filled this role instead.
