A battle was fought on Blacktar Cyst between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire by 3 ABY. Both the Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry and the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing took part in the fighting, where the 61st soldier Pol Andrissus received scarring injuries that disfigured his face and gave him a stutter. First Sergeant Hazram Namir started a pair of arguments with Captain Micha Evon and the soldier Brand respectively on Blacktar Cyst.
During his visit to the Alliance base on the planet Hoth in 3 ABY, Evon and his associates were told by General Philap Bygar that the 61st did not deserve to be deployed to Blacktar Cyst. The New Republic Intelligence agent Caern Adan regarded the 204th's actions at Blacktar Cyst as among the main reasons he believed the fighter wing had to be stopped. On the planet Troithe, a member of the 61st recounted the fighting on Blacktar Cyst in front of Yrica Quell, an ex-member of the 204th. Members of the 204th later recalled Blacktar Cyst over a fire at Troithe's Taa Complex.
By 3 ABY, during the Galactic Civil War between the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire, forces from each side fought a battle on Blacktar Cyst, where both the Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry and the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing were deployed. During the battle, the rebel soldier Pol Andrissus was injured by shrapnel, that scarred and disfigured his face. Some of the shrapnel reached his brain, giving the man a stutter, and many of his comrades considered his "good looks" to have been taken away.
While on Blacktar Cyst, First Sergeant Hazram Namir of the 61st lost an argument with fellow soldier Brand on whether their commanding officer, Captain Micha Evon, nicknamed Howl, was a genius or not. Namir also begun an ongoing argument with Howl on whether the first sergeant underestimated his men and their motivation to fight.
In 3 ABY, Howl and the former Imperial Governor Everi Chalis were invited to the Alliance High Command's secret base on the planet Hoth, bringing Namir and two other soldiers as escort. The Alliance General Philap Bygar greeted the party and voiced sentiment that Twilight Company did not deserve to have been sent to Blacktar Cyst or Praktin.
The Alliance eventually became the New Republic following the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, and Yrica Quell, a TIE fighter pilot in the 204th who had fought at Blacktar Cyst, defected to the New Republic. The New Republic Intelligence agent Caern Adan soon recruited Quell to hunt the 204th, citing Blacktar Cyst among the fighter wing's deployments prior to Endor. Adan viewed the 204th's actions as disastrous for the other side, listing it alongside the fighter wing's genocide of the planet Nacronis's civilization as primary reasons why the New Republic desperately needed to stop 204th.
Around 5 ABY, Quell and her squadron in the New Republic, Alphabet Squadron, traded stories with members of the 61st on the planet Troithe. When one New Republic soldier recounted her side of Blacktar Cyst, Quell noticed the details were different to what she remembered, but chose not to admit she had taken part with the 204th. Some time later, Soran Keize, the 204th commanding officer, joined some 204th pilots in telling stories, including the battle of Blacktar Cyst, around a fire at Troithe's Taa Complex greenhouse.
The battle of Blacktar Cyst was first mentioned in the 2015 novel Battlefront: Twilight Company, written by Alexander Freed.
