The Alema Rar Task Force, consisting of Jedi Knight Jaina Solo, Zekk, and the former Human Chiss pilot Jagged Fel, was assembled with the mission of defeating the Dark Jedi Alema Rar, who had risen to become a significant threat to the New Jedi Order around 40 ABY. Although the New Jedi Order had believed Alema Rar perished on Tenupe in 36 ABY, Fel revealed to the Solos four years later that Rar had survived, albeit with severe injuries. After Rar publicly revealed herself in a duel against the Skywalkers at Roqoo Depot, Fel, with the approval of Luke Skywalker, formed a task force with Jaina Solo and Zekk. Despite conflicts and jealousy between Fel and Zekk concerning Solo, the trio successfully tracked Rar to the Errant Venture, a private Star Destroyer belonging to Booster Terrik, and engaged the Dark Jedi in combat. However, they were unable to capture her as Rar managed to escape. Following the death of Mara Jade Skywalker, the team put aside the friction between Fel and Zekk, focusing their efforts on capturing Rar, who was the prime suspect in Skywalker's murder.
The team's pursuit led them to Ossus, the location of Jedi Academy, where the Task Force became involved in the Galactic Alliance Guard's attempt to menace the New Jedi Order. To secure their victory, the GAG confiscated Solo's and Fel's weapons, but Zekk retaliated by killing their leader, Major Salle Serpa. After this confrontation, Solo departed to assist the Jedi in their battle against her brother, Jacen, on Kashyyyk, while Fel and Zekk remained on Ossus to safeguard the Academy. Later, Zekk and Fel were summoned to Kashyyyk to combat forest fires ignited by Jacen's Turbolaser fire on the planet. However, when Rar once again threatened Solo's parents, the Task Force shifted its focus back to capturing Rar. They tracked her to an asteroid, where Fel ultimately achieved the Task Force's objective by killing Rar. With her death, the group disbanded, and the three maintained amicable relations, although Zekk seemingly disappeared at Shedu Maad.
After the Twi'lek Jedi Knight Alema Rar embraced the dark side during the Dark Nest Crisis, the New Jedi Order identified her as a dangerous foe. However, Rar was presumed dead following the conclusion of the Swarm War, a conflict involving the Chiss, Galactic Alliance, Killiks, and the Jedi. It was believed that Rar was killed by a spidersloth on Tenupe, and everyone except Jagged Fel, a Human Chiss fighter pilot disgraced for his actions during the Swarm War, thought she was dead. Fel knew that Rar had survived her encounter with the spidersloth on Tenupe and had been living in the planet's wilderness. Rar used the Force powers she learned from Lomi Plo, the Queen of the Dark Nest, to survive, and further developed her powers while living alone on the planet. During his exile from the Chiss due to damages caused by the Wookiee Jedi Lowbacca, Fel researched Rar's abilities and created a device to counteract her mind-wiping abilities.
As the Second Galactic Civil War began, Fel shared this information with Han and Leia Solo in 40 ABY during his exile from the Chiss on Telkur Station. However, he was forced to leave the Solos after Hapan agents ambushed them, suspecting their involvement in an assassination attempt on the Hapan Queen Mother, Tenel Ka. Following this, Fel went to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where, using the alias Twinsins Thlee, he demanded to see Jedi Grand Master Luke Skywalker. There, Fel explained to Skywalker Rar's survival techniques, including her memory-wiping ability, and Fel's device to counter it. He also presented a security program that would analyze security holocam input to recognize and track Rar. When the Skywalkers explained that she was also using a Force technique to disrupt holocams, he was confident that the program could be adapted to track the interference caused by the technique. After the presentation, Fel requested resources from the Skywalkers as a private citizen because his access to funds and transportation was limited. Skywalker then assigned Jedi Knights Jaina Solo and Zekk to assist Fel in hunting Rar.

Jagged Fel, also known as Jag to his close acquaintances, was a highly skilled pilot and ace who, following in the footsteps of his father, General Baron Soontir Fel, dedicated his life to military service and later became the head of state of the Imperial Remnant. Raised by his father and mother, Syal Antilles Fel, Jagged Fel grew up in the Unknown Regions among the disciplined and committed Chiss of the Empire of the Hand. Fel entered a military academy in his early teens and, by the age of eighteen, had achieved the rank of colonel and command of three squadrons of Clawcraft. Fel participated in the Yuuzhan Vong War, a conflict in which the New Republic, later the Galactic Alliance, fought against the extragalactic Yuuzhan Vong, during which he developed a romantic relationship with the Jedi Knight Jaina Solo. He aided Jaina in defending Hapes against a Yuuzhan Vong fleet before serving under his uncle in the defense of Borleias, where his romance with Jaina intensified as the war progressed.
After the Galactic Alliance's victory in the war, Fel led the Chiss war against the Killik colonies, which pitted him against Jaina. During the final battle of that conflict, Jaina's mother shot him down when the Jedi attempted to prevent the Chiss from using a genocidal weapon against the Killiks. Fel spent two years stranded in the dangerous jungles of Tenupe before being rescued. During the war, he had guaranteed the parole of Lowbacca, a Jedi Knight who later returned to fight against the Chiss. This made Fel and his family responsible for all of Lowbacca's damages, and when they were unable to pay, Fel was permanently exiled from the Chiss. He began tracking the last member of the Killik's Dark Nest, Alema Rar, and eventually gained Jedi support for his mission, tracking the Dark Jedi Rar in an uneasy partnership with Jaina and her close friend Zekk. Eventually, Fel personally killed Rar, restoring his family's honor. At the end of the Second Galactic Civil War, Fel assisted the Jedi in defeating Darth Caedus. During peace negotiations, Luke Skywalker compelled the Moff Council of the Imperial Remnant to accept Fel as the Remnant's head of state, enabling him to maintain control over the cunning moffs and ensure a stable peace settlement.

Jaina Solo was a Jedi Knight within the New Jedi Order, the twin sister of Jacen Solo and the elder sister of Anakin Solo. Born to Han and Leia Organa Solo, she inherited her father's mechanical skills and her mother's Force sensitivity, leading to her eventual training at the Jedi Praxeum. When the Yuuzhan Vong invaded the galaxy, Jaina joined the New Republic military and distinguished herself as a Rogue Squadron pilot. She was constantly on the battle's front lines during the Yuuzhan Vong War, earning the title of Sword of the Jedi from her uncle, Luke Skywalker.
The Second Galactic Civil War's crisis caused a rift between her and Jacen due to his increasingly aggressive actions, although she remained active within the Jedi Order. Jaina was later paired with Jagged Fel and Zekk on a mission to hunt down the rogue Dark Jedi Alema Rar. While on the mission, Jaina flirted with Zekk and Fel, which often led to bickering between the two. The three managed to resolve their differences and successfully hunted down and killed Rar. Her aunt Mara's death and her brother's dark deeds only motivated her to find a way to stop Jacen, and she began seeking the means to do so through training with her father's former arch-enemy, Mandalore Boba Fett. She eventually killed her twin brother, Darth Caedus, in a lightsaber duel aboard the Anakin Solo.

Zekk was a resourceful, Force-sensitive Human orphan from Ennth who became friends with the Solo twins, Jaina and Jacen. After succumbing to the dark side of the Force in his teenage years, he trained to become a Jedi Knight. Zekk later participated in the offensives against the Yuuzhan Vong and Dark Nest. During the Dark Nest Crisis, he and Jaina became Joiners and developed a particularly strong mental connection with each other.
By 40 ABY, Zekk and Jaina were no longer Joined but still shared some thoughts. Shortly after, they became partners, although Jaina's family believed they were romantically involved. During the Second Galactic Civil War, he and Jaina participated in the Battle of Tralus as part of the Hardpoint Squadron. He later participated in the Blockade of Corellia under the leadership of Jacen and Jaina. Zekk later joined forces with Jaina and Jagged Fel to hunt down the rogue dark Jedi Alema Rar. Zekk and Jag often competed for Jaina's attention, which usually annoyed her. Zekk mysteriously vanished from the Force during the war's final battle. Jaina, who never sensed his death, insisted he was still alive somewhere and was considered missing in action after the war ended.
The Alema Rar Task Force, though unnamed, appears in Legacy of the Force: Exile. It is also featured in Legacy of the Force: Sacrifice, Legacy of the Force: Inferno, and Legacy of the Force: Fury of the Star Wars: Legacy of the Force novel series, authored by Aaron Allston, Karen Traviss, and Troy Denning. The characters themselves were prominent throughout the series, and the group's mission to hunt Alema Rar was a significant storyline.
