A conflict transpired on Blacktar Cyst in 3 ABY between the forces of the Rebel Alliance and those of the Galactic Empire. The 61st Mobile Infantry of the Alliance and the 204th Imperial Fighter Wing of the Empire both participated in this engagement, during which the 61st's soldier, Pol Andrissus, suffered severe facial injuries that left him scarred and with a stutter. On Blacktar Cyst, First Sergeant Hazram Namir engaged in two separate disputes, one with Captain Micha Evon and another with the soldier Brand.
While visiting the Alliance base on the planet Hoth in 3 ABY, General Philap Bygar informed Evon and his companions that he believed the 61st was undeserving of deployment to Blacktar Cyst. Caern Adan, an agent of New Republic Intelligence, cited the actions of the 204th at Blacktar Cyst as a primary justification for his conviction that the fighter wing needed to be stopped. On the planet Troithe, a member of the 61st recounted the events of the fighting on Blacktar Cyst in the presence of Yrica Quell, a former member of the 204th. Later, members of the 204th reminisced about Blacktar Cyst around a fire at the Taa Complex on Troithe.

By 3 ABY, amidst the Galactic Civil War between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire, forces from both sides clashed in a conflict on Blacktar Cyst, where both the 61st Mobile Infantry of the Alliance and the 204th Imperial Fighter Wing of the Empire were involved. During this engagement, Pol Andrissus, a rebel soldier, sustained injuries from shrapnel, resulting in facial scars and disfigurement. Some shrapnel impacted his brain, causing him to develop a stutter, and many of his comrades felt his "good looks" were lost.
While stationed on Blacktar Cyst, Hazram Namir, the First Sergeant of the 61st, had a disagreement with his fellow soldier, Brand, regarding whether their commanding officer, Captain Micha Evon, known as Howl, was a genius. Namir also initiated an ongoing debate with Howl about whether the first sergeant was underestimating his troops and their motivation to fight.

In 3 ABY, Howl and the former Imperial Governor Everi Chalis received an invitation to the Alliance High Command's secret base on the planet Hoth, and they brought along Namir and two other soldiers as an escort. Philap Bygar, an Alliance General, greeted the group and expressed his opinion that Twilight Company did not deserve to be sent to either Blacktar Cyst or Praktin.
Following the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, the Alliance eventually transformed into the New Republic, and Yrica Quell, who had been a TIE fighter pilot in the 204th and fought at Blacktar Cyst, defected to the New Republic. Caern Adan, an agent with New Republic Intelligence, soon recruited Quell to hunt down the 204th, pointing to Blacktar Cyst as one of the fighter wing's deployments prior to Endor. Adan considered the 204th's actions to be disastrous for the Empire, citing it alongside the fighter wing's genocide of the civilization on the planet Nacronis as key reasons why the New Republic urgently needed to stop the 204th.
Around 5 ABY, Quell and her squadron within the New Republic, Alphabet Squadron, exchanged stories with members of the 61st on the planet Troithe. When one New Republic soldier shared her account of Blacktar Cyst, Quell noticed discrepancies compared to her own memories, but she chose not to reveal her participation with the 204th. Sometime later, Soran Keize, the 204th's commanding officer, joined some 204th pilots in recounting stories, including the battle of Blacktar Cyst, around a fire in the greenhouse at Troithe's Taa Complex.
The battle that took place on Blacktar Cyst was first mentioned in the 2015 novel Battlefront: Twilight Company, which was written by Alexander Freed.
