Biography

Spying on a senator

Exmar Kloris went undercover as Mon Mothma's driver

During the [Imperial Era](/article/imperial_era], Exmar Kloris functioned as an agent of the Galactic Empire's intelligence arm, the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB). Blevin, his ISB Supervisor, tasked him in 5 BBY with the mission to spy on Chandrilan Senator Mon Mothma, who had attracted the ISB's attention due to her charitable endeavors. Kloris took on the role of Mothma's new chauffeur, eavesdropping on her and reporting her covert humanitarian initiatives to his ISB superiors. However, Mothma was aware of Kloris's true allegiance and intended to use the extensive surveillance on her to disseminate false information to her observers, concealing her genuine intentions from the Empire.

Kloris was present when Mothma made a visit to Galactic Antiquities and Objects of Interest, a shop where she claimed to be searching for a gift for her husband, Perrin Fertha, in celebration of Day of Days. The true purpose of Mothma's visit was to secretly meet with Luthen Rael, the shop's owner and a covert coordinator of an anti-Imperial network, to discuss her capacity to finance their budding rebellion. Upon Mothma's arrival, Kleya Marki, Rael's assistant, promptly noticed the unfamiliar driver, leading to a brief discussion between her and Rael about whether Kloris was known or even Chandrilan. Rael then welcomed Mothma inside and began displaying items to her while Kloris waited. Marki inquired if she could show the undercover driver anything. Kloris responded that he could not afford anything in the shop, but the assistant insisted that he was still welcome to browse, persuading the driver to allow her to show him some old coins.

Kloris tried to keep an eye on Mothma at the shop

Rael led Mothma to a back room under the pretense of showing her a new item, enabling them to converse privately. Kloris glanced in their direction, but Marki swiftly redirected his attention back to the coins. In the other room, Mothma emphasized to Rael that the increased surveillance was making it impossible to divert funds, Rael reminding her that the driver was new. They soon concluded their brief meeting and returned to the main room, publicly agreeing on a loaned artifact for Fertha. Kloris then drove Mothma back to her residence at the Chandrilan Embassy, handing Fertha's gift to one of the servants upon their arrival.

Chaffeuring

On the following day, arrangements were made for Kloris to transport Mothma and her daughter, Leida Mothma, to Leida's class. The driver arrived as Mothma and Fertha were having breakfast, with the senator having to remind her husband of Kloris's name. However, that morning, Leida insisted on Fertha taking her instead, insulting the senator without any objection from her father. That night, Kloris drove Mothma and Fertha when they attended an event. On the way back Fertha and Mothma briefly discussed the latter's new foundation in the back and, after asking his wife for Kloris' name, Fertha requested the driver to take the Expressway.

Three days later, following a heist of the Empire's credits stored on the planet Aldhani, Kloris drove Mothma in the direction of the Imperial Senate Building, making a stop at the Antiquities & Objects of Interest along the way. Mothma met with Rael, feigning an intention to exchange the gift she had previously selected for her husband; her real purpose was to question Rael about his involvement in the Aldhani incident. Mothma left Kloris at the speeder, telling him that she would be right back. Kloris passed his time pacing and looking into the shop until the end of the conversation, driving Mothma onwards to the Senate.

Kloris drove Vel Sartha from the Chandrila Embassy

Approximately a month later, Kloris was the driver when Mothma delivered a speech at another session of the Senate. During the session, the Chandrilan Embassy contacted Kloris, informing him that Mothma's cousin, Vel Sartha, had arrived at the residence. Upon Mothma's return to the speeder, she instructed Kloris to drive, and he informed her of her cousin's arrival, driving her back to the embassy. Sartha departed the next day, stating that she was going to the Pilgrimage on Chandrila. Kloris collected Sartha's bags and drove her elsewhere.

Great gambles

A few days later, Mothma and Fertha attended a party, and Kloris was on hand to drive them back. Mothma exited first and waited in the speeder until Fertha joined her. The senator then requested privacy from the driver, and he complied. However, after a brief pause, Kloris reactivated the driver-passenger comlink to eavesdrop on their conversation. He overheard Mothma reprimanding Fertha for losing their money and accusing him of gambling, which her husband vehemently denied. Mothma instructed him to lower his voice, but Fertha insisted that Kloris could not hear him.

Kloris meets with Supervisor Blevin

The following day, Kloris convened with Blevin at the ISB Central Office, providing a verbatim account of the conversation he had overheard between Mothma and Fertha. The supervisor pondered whether Mothma was more upset about Fertha's dishonesty or the potential for gambling debts, Kloris unsure about which. With Blevin believing Fertha's problems could be beneficial to them, the undercover driver added that it sounded like the gambling problems were a repeated matter. The briefing was interrupted by Supervisor Lagret who told Blevin he was missing the meeting an trap the ISB was watching play out.

Personality and traits

Kloris was a spy for the Imperial Security Bureau

Exmar Kloris was a human individual characterized by his fair complexion, silver hair, and brown eyes. As an undercover operative for the Imperial Security Bureau, he maintained close surveillance on Mon Mothma whenever feasible, while simultaneously projecting a formal demeanor, consistently standing erect and offering a smile when appropriate. In addition, he secretly listened to and reported on her charitable efforts.

During a period when he was left waiting outside the Galactic Antiquities and Objects of Interest shop, he exhibited signs of boredom, pacing around while directing glances through the windows toward Mothma. On a subsequent occasion, when Mothma requested privacy, Kloris disregarded orders and eavesdropped on her argument with Perrin Fertha regarding gambling debts, betraying his concern through a furrowed brow. The driver then conveyed his findings and deductions to Blevin, unaware that Mothma was deliberately feeding him disinformation all along.
