Imperial security troopers represented a specialized division within the Imperial Army troopers, functioning as highly skilled security soldiers throughout the Galactic Empire. To maintain order within urban centers, these security troopers augmented stormtrooper units, and were dispatched to planets such as Morlana One and Ferrix with the objective of dismantling and supplanting local authorities in order to keep the peace.
Within the Galactic Empire, Imperial security troopers operated as specialized Imperial Army soldiers assigned to law enforcement and security roles, with responsibilities that included serving as guards and sentries. Security troopers employed methods such as riot control and suppression to execute their duties. Moreover, on occasion, Imperial security troopers were assigned to accompany Imperial officers, ISB Supervisors, and ISB Attendants as they carried out their responsibilities. As elite security troopers, these soldiers worked in conjunction with Imperial stormtroopers, providing reinforcement when necessary. Additionally, Imperial security troopers assisted in apprehending suspects and managing arrest scenes, as well as aiding in interrogations by restraining individuals. When the situation demanded, security troopers were capable of operating computer systems within a command center.

Imperial security troopers utilized light military vehicles, piloting C-PH patrol speeder bikes and Imperial armored transport vehicles. The standard uniform for security troopers consisted of black utility fatigues, black boots, a utility belt, and a cap. When performing armed duties, the troopers were equipped with E-11 medium blaster rifles, although they also employed non-lethal equipment such as stun batons, standard batons, and riot shields during crowd control and riot suppression operations. To enhance their protection, Imperial security troopers wore additional gear, including black armor and a helmet resembling Imperial officer battle armor, along with shin guards. Communication packs were also utilized by security troopers to coordinate with other Imperial units.
Following a failed ambush on Ferrix by Pre-Mor Authority Security Forces attempting to execute an arrest warrant for Cassian Jeron Andor, the Imperial takeover of the Morlani system occurred. During this operation, Imperial Security Bureau personnel received support from a contingent of Imperial officers and Imperial security troopers as they secured the Corporate Security Headquarters and confiscated items. While ISB Attendants and officers carried out these tasks, Imperial security troopers provided guard duty. Subsequently, the Imperials initiated an occupation of Ferrix and established a garrison composed of stormtroopers and security troopers. As cleanup efforts were underway to repair damaged structures and guests were being evicted from Hotel Rix, which was being converted into the headquarters for the garrison's prefect, Captain Vanis Tigo, Imperial security troopers conducted patrols while others maintained overwatch positions on the hotel's balconies.

During the occupation, Imperial forces apprehended Salman Paak and seized control of the Repaak Salyard. On the following day, security troopers were part of a detachment dispatched to establish a perimeter and assist stormtroopers in securing the yard as a crowd gathered. As Captain Tigo directed his forces, he identified Bix Caleen, another suspect, and instructed his stormtroopers and security troopers to arrest her when she attempted to escape. After Caleen was apprehended and taken to the hotel, security troopers placed her in the interrogation room after removing Paak. Subsequently, security troopers continued to provide support during the interrogation led by ISB Supervisor Lieutenant Dedra Meero and Dr. Gorst. At the Ferrix hotel, security troopers operated computer systems within the headquarter's command center while Captain Tigo and other officers briefed Lieutenant Meero on the situation on Ferrix as Maarva's funeral procession neared. Other troopers stood guard inside the hotel and closed doors for superior officers.

On the day of the funeral, Imperial forces were taken by surprise when the event commenced earlier than expected, prompting Imperial security troopers to rush to equip themselves with armor and riot gear, including batons and shields. As the Ferrix bell tower sounded, musicians participating in the funeral procession began tuning their instruments, and the honor guard began to march, while crowds started to gather on the roads leading to the Imperial headquarters at the hotel.
Armored Imperial security troopers and stormtroopers established barricades along several pathways leading to Rix Road, preventing civilian access, while a large group of Imperial security troopers moved along the hotel's flank with their shields. This main contingent was accompanied by Captain Tigo and Lieutenant Merzin Keysax, as well as a number of stormtroopers. Additional security troopers and stormtroopers remained in the hotel's lobby where a significant amount of equipment was stored, as more Imperial units deployed outside. The Ferrixian spy, Nurchi, revealed the location of Cassian Jeron Andor to ISB Attendant Corv, a person of great interest to the Empire due to his connection to the master rebel strategist, "Axis." Corv pretended to arrest Nurchi and escorted him into the hotel's lobby as more security troopers hurried outside to confront the approaching crowd.

As the funeral procession arrived at Fountain Square on Rix Road, nearing the hotel, the band transitioned to a different musical piece, playing "To the Sky," signaling the crowd to advance more quickly towards the assembled Imperial forces. Unarmored and unarmed security troopers, some equipped with communication packs, maintained overwatch positions on several rooftops overlooking Rix Road, while Imperial security troopers on the perimeter pushed back and confined civilians to the narrow pathways. Imperial security troopers formed a shield wall when the procession halted, and Maarva's droid, B2EMO, activated his holoprojector to broadcast Maarva's eulogy on her impending death. Concurrently, Nurchi was guarded inside by several Imperial security troopers, while Cassian infiltrated the hotel and killed an unarmored but armed security trooper while attempting to rescue his friend Bix Caleen from Imperial custody.
In her speech, Maarva urged her fellow Ferrixians to resist the Empire, emphasizing their past complacency in allowing the Empire's influence to spread throughout the galaxy and dominate Ferrix. Captain Tigo forced his way through the security trooper shield wall to interrupt Maarva's final call to action and knocked over B2EMO. This action provoked a strong reaction from the crowd, and Captain Tigo was attacked. Imperial security troopers attempted to assist Captain Tigo and apprehend the attacker, Brasso, but were met with resistance from the crowd. As the situation spiraled out of control, Lieutenant Keysax instructed the security troopers to assume their positions as Ferrixians began pushing against the shields and attacking the Imperials. Some security troopers were incapacitated, while others struggled to repel the protestors. The security troopers created an opening to allow Captain Tigo to retreat behind the wall while a few Ferrixians were beaten and arrested. These protestors were brought to the hotel lobby while a few Imperials inside moved from the hotel to reinforce the security troopers outside.

With a full-scale riot unfolding, Wilmon Paak armed an improvised bomb and launched it over the security trooper defense wall, landing near the hotel entrance and close to Imperial equipment. The resulting explosion caused widespread damage and triggered secondary explosions from detonating grenades. These explosions incapacitated or killed the Imperials within the hotel lobby, including several security troopers. The main contingent of security troopers and Ferrixians were temporarily knocked down, including those on the outer perimeters. As Captain Tigo recovered, he ordered his stormtroopers to open fire on the rioters, while security troopers continued to engage in close-quarters combat. As a result of the ensuing massacre, the surviving Ferrixians retreated, and the city descended into chaos.
The initial appearance of Imperial security troopers was in "Aldhani," the fourth episode of the first season of the live-action web-TV series Andor. This episode was released on September 28, 2022. During the season's broadcast, the troopers were subsequently identified in the Databank on StarWars.com.
