Star Wars: The Rebel Files, also known by its full title, The Rebel Files: Collected Intelligence of the Alliance, is a reference work penned by Daniel Wallace. This book, echoing the style of Star Wars Legends works such as The Jedi Path, presents in-universe documents and details concerning the protocols, tools, and members of the Rebel Alliance. The complete boxed set was made available on November 21, 2017, with a book-only version following on July 3, 2018.
This highly confidential collection replicates extremely sensitive intelligence, charting the Rebel Alliance's journey from its inception to its relentless struggle against the Empire. In its early days, operating in secret opposition to Imperial actions, the Alliance couldn't risk storing its most crucial data digitally due to the threat of interception. Instead, it was secured in a physical case, accompanying key Rebel leaders. After being lost amidst the chaos of the Battle of Endor, it was recovered years later by the newly established Resistance.
Packed with illustrations and offering in-depth strategic and historical insights, the files also include annotations from Resistance figures such as General Leia Organa, Mon Mothma, Poe Dameron, and Admiral Ackbar. This makes it an essential resource for enthusiasts seeking a more comprehensive understanding of the saga.
The initial planned release date was in October 2017.
According to a blog post on StarWars.com dated October 7, 2017, the deluxe edition of Star Wars: The Rebel Files was originally slated for release in the United States on November 14 of that same year, but it never materialized. Prominent online booksellers Amazon and Barnes & Noble did not feature a product listing for the deluxe edition. Only Australian online retailers suggested a December 1, 2017, release date for the deluxe edition in Australia. The deluxe edition started appearing on online retailers around November 19.
- On page 14, Hera Syndulla is identified as Spectre One, despite that callsign being attributed to Kanan Jarrus in Star Wars Rebels.
- Page 15 features a photograph of the Spectres following the Mission to Malachor. This is inconsistent because Ahsoka Tano used this picture in a document to introduce the Spectres to the Rebel Alliance Intelligence Service. Ahsoka was not in contact with the Spectres during the time depicted in the photograph. Furthermore, the photo shows the Spectres as they appeared in Season Three of Star Wars Rebels, rather than Season Two, when the mission occurred.
- On page 17, Jun Sato's last name is incorrectly spelled as "Soto."
- On page 18, in a communication addressed to Moff Stattata, Leia Organa mentions arriving in Lothal at the capital; however, she actually landed at Jalath.
- On page 25, an image of the Thranta-class corvette from the Star Wars Legends video game Star Wars: The Old Republic is used in place of the canon Sphyrna-class Hammerhead corvette.
- On page 38, the galaxy map incorrectly places Alderaan in the Colonies region instead of the Core Worlds, and the labels for the Expansion Region and the Mid Rim are incorrectly swapped.
- On page 122, Amilyn Holdo asserts that the Resistance lacked any spies within the First Order. However, Poe Dameron: Flight Log previously indicated the Resistance spy droid network did have spies, including RA-7-D4, embedded within the First Order. [7]
- On page 145, Lothal is listed among the key targets for Operation Ringbreaker. Yet, the Star Wars Rebels Season Four episodes, specifically "Family Reunion – and Farewell," later reveal that Lothal was freed from Imperial control years before the operation and remained so past the events of the Battle of Endor, making its inclusion as a target contradictory.
- On page 146, the name of Sullust is incorrectly written as "Sollust" on one occasion.
- On page 152, the visual representation of the DS-2 Death Star II Mobile Battle Station's reactor core is displayed upside-down.
- On page 153, the names Basteel, Jaresh, and Sesid are all misspelled as "Bastille," "Juresh," and "Sessid," respectively.
- On page 165, Haxen Delto's name is rendered incorrectly as "Haxan."
- On page 166, Poe Dameron mentions that before the Battle of Endor, his mother, Shara Bey, would have been preparing her X-wing starfighter, even though she pilots an RZ-1 A-wing interceptor.
- Originally, Davits Draven was established as being alive at least until the rescue of Han Solo and shortly before the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, as indicated in Star Wars: The Rebel Files. However, due to a communication error, notes were overlooked during the production of Star Wars: The Rebel Files. Star Wars (2015) 54 depicts Draven's death aboard the Executor. Matt Martin clarified that the comic book currently serves as the definitive account of Draven's fate. [8] [9]
- Similarly, Jan Dodonna is incorrectly noted as being alive post-Hoth, despite his death in Star Wars (2015) 55. As with Davits Draven, the comic book's timeline takes precedence, and plans are in place to correct the contradiction in future editions of Star Wars: The Rebel Files. [10]
