T-1 shuttle (Jedi Order)

During the High Republic Era, the Jedi Order made use of a shuttle model known as the T-1 shuttle. When the Eiram–E'ronoh crisis unfolded and the Jedi responded, Jedi Masters Laret Soveral and Simmix, along with their respective Padawans Orla Jareni and Cohmac Vitus, journeyed to the Eiram system aboard a T-1 shuttle. Upon reaching the lost moon, where the Directorate had taken the rulers of the planets Eiram and E'ronoh, their vessel suffered a crash, resulting in the death of Simmix.

Keeve Trennis, Padawan to Jedi Master Sskeer, and himself traveled in a T-1 shuttle from Shuraden to the Starlight Beacon space station. Not long after that, Sskeer and Trennis, accompanied by the bond-twins Ceret and Terec (both Jedi), used a T-1 shuttle to investigate a craft that had been attacked by Nihil marauders within the Kazlin system. Following this, after discovering that the derelict craft originated from the planet Sedri Minor with a shipment of Vratixian barley, Sskeer and Ceret traveled to the planet in the T-1.

Distinguishing Features

The bridge and interior of a T-1 shuttle

The T-1, a type of shuttle, featured a bridge with an angled viewport and a pair of flat, triangular wings extending from its sides. This starship was equipped with a hyperdrive along with two engines. The T-1 shuttle's exterior was colored with white plating, complemented by red highlights on its wings and fuselage. The bridge opened into the central interior, illuminated by white and gold lighting. An entry ramp deployed from the side of the hull, beneath the wing, and a boarding tube could extend from its side as well.

Designed to be flown by one or two pilots, the T-1 shuttle's bridge incorporated four seats. The safety harnesses installed were not initially designed to accommodate limbless species like the Fillithar. The T-1 shuttle was built to be resilient, capable of withstanding a crash with minimal damage. The shuttle also possessed communications equipment and temperature control systems.

Purpose

The T-1 shuttle served as a means of transportation for the Jedi Order on missions that required the involvement of multiple Jedi.

Historical Information

The Eiram–E'ronoh Incident

The Jedi Order employed the T-1 shuttle during the High Republic Era, specifically around the year 257 BBY. One particular T-1 shuttle was used when the Jedi intervened in the Eiram–E'ronoh crisis, an event where the monarchs of the sister planets Eiram and E'ronoh were abducted by the Directorate and held captive on the lost moon. Jedi Masters Laret Soveral and Simmix, accompanied by their Padawans Orla Jareni and Cohmac Vitus, answered the call for assistance from the planets. Simmix, a Fillithar without limbs, was aware that the safety restraints were not designed for his kind, but he dismissed the issue with a laugh, stating he would take his chances. The Jedi then boarded the T-1 shuttle, with the two Padawans at the controls, and set course for the Eiram system.

Upon their arrival, the shuttle picked up a distress signal originating from the wrecked ship of Monarch Cassel of E'ronoh. However, the signal was a trap set by Lord Isamer of the Directorate, intended to lure the Jedi into an ambush. The Padawans, failing to verify the signal's authenticity, steered the shuttle towards its source. As they approached the moon, Master Soveral, awakened from her meditative trance, entered the bridge and pointed out that the signal only confirmed the presence of Cassel's ship, not the monarch himself.

The Directorate's trap caused the T-1 shuttle to crash on the lost moon. While the vessel remained largely intact, Master Simmix was killed during the crash. The remaining three Jedi left the wreckage to search for the hostages, but were forced to leave Simmix's body behind. Soveral hoped the kidnappers would assume he had traveled alone. Isamer dispatched his guards to search the wreckage, and while they only found Simmix's body, Isamer knew that there were other survivors.

Encounters with Darkness

The T-1 shuttle utilized by Sskeer and Keeve Trennis arrives on the Starlight Beacon.

Twenty-five standard years following the Eiram—E'ronoh crisis, in the wake of the Great Hyperspace Disaster and the Battle of Kur against the Nihil, a group of marauders, Jedi Master Sskeer and his Padawan, Keeve Trennis, made use of the shuttle to travel from the world of Shuraden to the Starlight Beacon space station. En route from Shuraden, they discovered a group led by Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh who had been stranded on the moon Wevo following a skirmish with the Nihil. The two Jedi landed on the moon, followed by forces from the Galactic Republic and other Jedi, who rescued the group aboard the starship Radiant Blessing. After arriving at the Starlight Beacon, Sskeer and Trennis disembarked from their shuttle, and Trennis was subsequently promoted to the rank of Jedi Knight. Shortly after their arrival, the Starlight Beacon was officially inaugurated with a dedication ceremony.

After the dedication, Sskeer and Trennis were sent on a mission to respond to a distress signal within the Kazlin system. Trennis piloted a T-1 shuttle carrying the two Jedi along with the Jedi bond-twins Ceret and Terec, who practiced lightsaber dueling during the journey. Upon arriving in the system, they found a derelict vessel and docked their T-1 shuttle alongside it to board, discovering that it was a ship belonging to the Hutt Clan that had been attacked by the Nihil. Upon learning that the ship had been transporting Vratixian barley, a component of the medical substance bacta, from the planet [Sedri Minor](/article/sedri_minor], Jedi Master Avar Kriss dispatched Sskeer and Ceret to the Sedri system aboard the T-1 to investigate the colony there. Upon reaching Sedri Minor, Sskeer and Ceret were greeted by Kalo Sulman, a resident who informed the Jedi that the colony was independent of the Republic and unwelcome.

Behind the scenes

The T-1 shuttle was created for the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project. Its first appearance was in The High Republic (2021) 1, a comic written by Cavan Scott, penciled by Ario Anindito, and published by Marvel Comics on January 6, 2021. The name of the model was first mentioned in the novel The High Republic: Into the Dark, written by Claudia Gray and released on February 2, 2021. The name was not associated with the ship from The High Republic 1 until the second issue of the comic, which was also written by Scott, illustrated by Anindito, and published on February 3.

The T-1 shuttle's design in The High Republic 1 was intended to be an earlier version of the T-6 shuttle used by the Jedi during the Clone Wars. Anindito developed the design after Scott explained the High Republic's philosophy and design principles.
