The Venturous was a Groundlion man-of-war class vessel that served within the Chiss Defense Force of the Chiss Ascendancy, under the command of Admiral Dy'lothe. During the Chiss Ascendancy crisis of 18 BBY, this warship was deployed to evaluate several situations. Initially, it was tasked with observing the Kilji war cruiser Whetstone at the planet Rhigar, but the ship managed to escape their scrutiny. Subsequently, it was dispatched to the world of Sposia to safeguard the UAG from the Whetstone. There, it encountered the Aelos, a Nikardun blockade frigate under the traitorous Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo (Core name "Thrawn"), who was intended to be captured. However, Admiral Ar'alani intervened, utilizing a Crippler net to foil the capture attempt. Later in the same conflict, after Thrawn's defeated the Grysk fleet, the Venturous was dispatched to assess the situation and was welcomed by Ar'alani on the world of Sunrise.
Being a Groundlion man-of-war, the design of the Venturous drew inspiration from the Groundlion creature. The vessel was equipped with multiple weapon emplacements, a tractor beam, and laser cannons.
In 18 BBY, the Venturous was dispatched to the planet Rhigar, where the Kilji war cruiser Whetstone was scheduled to meet with key figures from the Clarr family, mirroring a previous attempt with the Mitth family. However, instead of meeting with Patriarch Clarr'ivl'exow, the aliens Captain Clarr'os'culry (Core name "Roscu") arrived. Before Roscu boarded the Whetstone to meet with Generalirius Nakirre, the leader of the Kilji Illumine, and the Grysk agent "Jixtus," she learned of the Venturous's presence at Rhigar due to the Whetstone, leading her to decline the offered refreshments to expedite the Kilji war cruiser's departure, as instructed by her Patriarch. This proved successful, as Dy'lothe and the Venturous failed to intercept the Kilji vessel.
Later, during a meeting between Admiral Ar'alani and Supreme Admiral Ja'fosk, the Supreme Admiral informed Ar'alani that she and her ship, the Vigilant, would be sent to Sposia to protect the UAG before the Venturous's arrival. Following the setup for the capture of Senior Captain Mitth'raw'nuruodo (Core name "Thrawn"), Supreme General Ba'kif and Senior Aide Stybla'mi'ovodo (Core name "Lamiov") convened with the "rogue" officer. During their discussion, Lamiov revealed the recent arrival of Admiral Dy'lothe and the Venturous, ordering Thrawn's Paccian allies to surrender or face destruction. Simultaneously, Ar'alani, having just arrived at Sposia, was informed that Dy'lothe had pinned a Nikardun blockade frigate within the planet's gravity well—which was actually the Aelos, a Paccosh-commanded frigate. The Admiral then instructed Droc'tri'morhs (Core name "Octrimo") to use the Venturous to reach them via an in-system jump. Upon arrival, and confronting the Ventuorous, Stybla'rsi'omli (Core name "Larsiom") informed Dy'lothe that the Nikardun vessel was commanded by a Chiss officer—who had stolen a Vagaari gravity well projector from the UAG vault—and needed to leave. However, Dy'lothe, placing her trust in the Syndicure's setup to capture Thrawn, persisted in her attempt to apprehend the "Nikardun."
However, Dy'lothe's efforts were thwarted when the Vigilant aided the Aelos in its escape, enabling the Paccosh to deploy a Crippler net against Dy'lothe's warship, temporarily disabling it and allowing the Aelos to flee. Following the Aelos's departure, Dy'lothe and Ar'alani engaged in a conversation, during which Dy'lothe mentioned her intention to deposit some degree from a Asteroid missile platform received from the planet of Ornfra, cutting off the communication.
After the Paccosh, Garwians, Kilji defectors, Qilori and Thrawn's forces annihilated the Grysk fleet, Dy'lothe and the Venturous arrived at Sunrise, having been dispatched by the Syndicure to assess the situation.
Admiral Dy'lothe was in command of the Venturous. Captain Roscu had the opportunity to become the ship's Second Officer.
The novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, released in 2021 and the final installment of the Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy Trilogy by Timothy Zahn, featured the Venturous.
