Yobshrimp Noodle Salad

Surabat Shrimp and Noodle Salad, alternatively known as Yobshrimp Noodle Salad, was a salad consisting of vegetables, chilled yobshrimp, and cold noodles. Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs conceived the dish to showcase the unique flavor of yobshrimp. To acquire them, he once tried to fish for them on their homeworld of Naboo, which led to a confrontation with the Gungan species, ultimately resulting in an agreement to purchase the shrimp from them.

Subsequently, Tuggs utilized his modified transport, which doubled as his mobile restaurant called Tuggs' Grub, to transport live yobshrimp. In 34 ABY, while serving as the guest chef at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo located in Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu, he offered Yobshrimp Noodle Salad.

Description

This salad featured marinated, chilled yobshrimp, vegetables of various colors, and cold noodles that were beige-colored, and either opaque or semi-transparent. Both humans and Artiodacs could consume the dish, with portion sizes available for adults and younglings.

History

When Strono Tuggs fished for yobshrimp in Lake Paonga without permission, the Gungans brought him into their underwater city, Otoh Gunga.

The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs invented this noodle salad to put the spotlight on the freshness of yobshrimp. These decapod species were native to the planet Naboo in the Mid Rim, specifically its waters. The act of fishing for these creatures could be perilous; within Naboo's deep underwater Abyss, a fisher faced the risk of predation by creatures like the colo claw fish or the opee sea killer.

To circumvent the dangers of the Abyss, Tuggs initially attempted to catch yobshrimp himself, employing traps within Lake Paonga. This body of water was the home of the Gungans and their primary city, Otoh Gunga, situated beneath the surface. He neglected to obtain permission from the Gungan Boss, a misstep he later described as a "rookie mistake." The Gungans escorted Tuggs to Otoh Gunga, determined he posed no threat, and then graciously offered him Paonga Fresca to drink. Following this encounter, Tuggs established a purchasing agreement with a Gungan, who provided him with yobshrimp at a fair price.

Using his modified starship, equipped with cargo pods incorporating life support systems, Tuggs transported live yobshrimp and other fresh ingredients. These were then used at his mobile restaurant, Tuggs' Grub. In 34 ABY, Tuggs' Grub was frequently located at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo in Black Spire Outpost on Batuu, thus introducing the dish to that locale.

In that same year, Tuggs released his cookbook, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which featured the Yobshrimp Noodle Salad recipe, along with stories about the Gungans and yobshrimp. Eloc Throno, an explorer and the author of the Traveler's Guide to Batuu, sampled the dish on Batuu when it was called Surabat Shrimp and Noodle Salad, sharing its name with the Surabat area. This chilled salad became one of Throno's preferred meals for a hot day.

The dish retained its name at both parks until September, but in October 2019, a series of name changes at Disney's Hollywood Studios resulted in it being renamed Surabat Shrimp and Noodle Salad at that location. Due to the fluctuating availability of the dish at the theme parks due to real-world circumstances, this article refrains from specifying its status on particular dates.

A non-fictional recipe for Yobshrimp Noodle Salad was included in the cookbook Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, authored by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak, and published on November 5, 2019. The recipe involves preparing a vinaigrette one day prior, using low-sodium soy sauce, lime juice, sugar, a minced garlic clove, hot sauce, and xanthum gum. After an overnight marination, the vinaigrette is combined with cold vermicelli rice noodles and cooked shrimp, along with sliced bell pepper, carrots, wood ear mushrooms, and red onion. Before serving, the dish is garnished with minced cilantro and a dash of salt.
