Dar

Dar, a Trandoshan male, was the son of Garnac, who led a hunting guild. This guild engaged in hunting sentient and non-sentient beings alike on Wasskah's moon. In the year 20 BBY, Dar stood on the precipice of becoming a full-fledged guild member. When Lo-Taren, a guild hunter, captured the Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano, Garnac saw it as Dar's inaugural trophy within reach.

Following Tano's capture by two days, Dar's father inducted him into the guild, and on the subsequent day, he spearheaded the hunting party. Dar swiftly located Tano and pursued her, along with her youngling Jedi companion Kalifa, through the jungles situated on one of Wasskah's islands. However, Dar's inexperience, combined with the agility of his targets and the challenging jungle terrain, led to his downfall. After an unsuccessful attack on Tano, Dar fell into a ravine and was fatally impaled on a sharp rock.

Garnac, convinced that the Jedi were solely responsible, executed Kalifa and vowed revenge against Tano. Garnac's quest to avenge his son concluded when Tano defeated him in a conflict a few days later, resulting in the near-total destruction of the hunting guild.

Biography

Hunting heir

Garnac, the Trandoshan leader of a hunting guild operating from the moon of Wasskah, had a son named Dar, who was a Trandoshan male. Dar frequented the guild's Ubrikkian Floating Fortress, despite not being an official member. His father intended for him to eventually join the guild's ranks.

The guild was notorious for abducting both sentient and non-sentient beings from across the galaxy, transporting them to Wasskah, and hunting them for sport. Among their prisoners were Jedi younglings, considered high-value targets by the Trandoshans. For Dar, the act of killing a Jedi was viewed as a crucial rite of passage.

Induction as a hunter

In 20 BBY, during the year, Dar was on the verge of being formally inducted into the guild. A few days prior to the ceremony, Dar accompanied his father on the guild's Trandoshan prisoner ship for a galactic hunt that resulted in the capture of several individuals. Eventually, the pilots Krix and Lagon navigated the ship to the planet Felucia. By this point, the freighter's cargo hold contained four prisoners: the Selkath Morgo, the Sakiyan Vadoo, the Terrelian Jango Jumper Lika, and the Snivvian Katt Mol. Upon landing on Felucia, the hunter Lo-Taren ventured out alone in search of potential prey.

Upon Lo-Taren's return, he brought with him the Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano, whom he had captured during a battle that was part of the ongoing Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Lo-Taren eagerly shared his belief with Dar and Garnac that Tano would provide an exceptional hunting experience. Garnac concurred, and Dar envisioned Tano as his first trophy from his inaugural hunt.

The Trandoshans returned to Wasskah and released their prisoners onto Island Four, a jungle-covered island. From the cockpit of the freighter, Dar observed as Lo-Taren used the ship's weapons to gun down two of the prisoners and force the remaining ones into the jungle.

The following day, Dar was present in the fortress's trophy room when Garnac announced the commencement of a new hunting season. The hunters celebrated, arming themselves and descending to Island Four on MSP80 hover pods. Dar participated in the hunt by piloting Lagon's hover pod, though Lagon later took over when Garnac joined them. During the hunt, Dar, Garnac, and Lagon overheard Lo-Taren's call for backup. After a day of hunting, which saw the claiming of at least two more trophies, the Trandoshans gathered in the trophy room for Dar's initiation ceremony. Dar's peers chanted and cheered as he approached Garnac and was officially inducted into the guild. His first hunt was scheduled for the following morning.

First hunt

Dar was given the opportunity to lead his first hunting expedition. Two hover pods were deployed: one piloted solo by the hunter Sochek, and the other piloted by Lagon with Dar and Garnac as passengers. Upon landing, they discovered that Tano had joined forces with three other Jedi younglings who had been captured previously: O-Mer, Jinx, and Kalifa. The pods pursued them, with Sochek diverting O-Mer and Jinx away from Tano and Kalifa. Dar's pod continued to chase Tano through the jungle, eventually separating her from Kalifa. With Kalifa isolated, Garnac urged Dar to dismount and eliminate her.

Dar leaped from the hover pod and pursued Kalifa. He managed to corner her, but Kalifa caught him off guard and used the Force to throw him against a tree. However, Kalifa, weakened from a previous fall, was exhausted by the time Dar caught up to her again. The young Trandoshan gloated over the prospect of making Kalifa his first Jedi kill and aimed his sniper rifle. Before he could fire, Tano dropped from a nearby tree and knocked Dar onto his back. Dar responded by shooting at both Jedi, but failed to land any fatal blows.

Death

Dar was killed during his first hunt.

Frustrated, Dar abandoned his ranged attacks and engaged Tano in hand-to-hand combat. They exchanged blows, punching, kicking, and tackling each other. The agile Jedi evaded many of Dar's clumsy attacks, leading Dar to charge at her in desperation. He tackled Tano, but overextended himself, releasing Tano unintentionally before tumbling over a boulder and into a ravine.

Dar landed on a sharp rock, ending his life on his first hunt without securing a single kill.

Legacy

Dar's demise sent Garnac into a rage. The Trandoshan swiftly executed Kalifa with a precise blaster shot and swore vengeance on Tano. Garnac searched the island for Tano but failed to find her. Eventually, the Jedi contacted Wookiee soldiers and launched an assault on the guild's fortress. Garnac personally dueled Tano in the trophy room and was defeated after a prolonged fight. Garnac continued to blame Tano for Dar's death, but Tano countered that Garnac's eagerness to send his son on the hunt was the true cause.

Unwilling to accept this accusation, Garnac reached for a blaster rifle, only for Tano to throw him out of the trophy room and over the balcony in self-defense. The guild was disbanded, and its surviving members fled Wasskah.

Personality and traits

Dar takes aim with his rifle

Dar, raised to be an ambitious hunter, had a strong desire to hunt. He cherished his father, Garnac, and sought to please him, expressing his eagerness to personally eliminate a Jedi target when Garnac raised the subject. He was openly optimistic and often celebrated the guild's hunting activities, such as when Garnac expressed interest in making Tano Dar's first trophy or when Garnac announced the start of a new hunt. During his guild induction ceremony, Dar acted as a triumphant warrior, roaring and cheering alongside his comrades. He even exchanged chest bumps with his peers as he stepped forward to be inducted by his father.

On his first and final hunt, Dar was entrusted with leading the charge and seemed to relish the hover pod chase. He was confident in his ability to fight the Jedi—whom he referred to as "whelps"—on foot, but resorted to using his rifle after failing to kill Kalifa with his bare hands. Upon cornering Kalifa, he deemed her unimpressive but hoped to make her the first of many Jedi trophies. He considered it an honor for Kalifa to become his trophy. Dar proved to be a quick, though inaccurate, shooter, quickly recovering after being knocked down by Tano to continue the fight.

However, his inability to kill the Jedi frustrated him, leading him to abandon his weapons and engage Tano in personal combat. His attacks were unfocused, wildly swinging at the Jedi and landing only a few blows. After being tackled by Tano, Dar attempted a similar maneuver but put too much force into it, leading to his demise.

Dar had a lean physique similar to his father's. His scales were yellow, and he had yellow eyes.

Equipment

During his first and only hunt, Dar's weapon of choice was a black, long-barreled sniper rifle equipped with a vertical foregrip, sling, and scope. After failing to shoot his target with it, Dar attempted to use the rifle as a club but lost his grip on it. He also had access to and was capable of piloting the guild's hover pods.

Dar's fatigues included a reddish-brown t-shirt, a gray vest with yellow shoulders, gray shorts and anklets, and gauntlets on both wrists. He also wore a cartridge carrier on his left arm and a red armband on his right arm.

Behind the scenes

Conceptual artwork of Dar for "Padawan Lost"

Dar was created as a supporting character for the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, appearing only in the episode "Padawan Lost." This episode, the twenty-first of the show's third season, aired on April 1, 2011. Dar was later mentioned in the following episode, "Wookiee Hunt," where his death served as the primary motivation for the antagonist.

Kevin Thoms provided Dar's voice. Like all the Trandoshans in "Padawan Lost" and "Wookiee Hunt," Dar was designed by conceptual artist Pat Presley. George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, came up with Dar's name during a writing session for the show.
