Battle on Wasskah

A conflict unfolded on the moon of Wasskah during the era of the Clone Wars. In this engagement, a group of Jedi who were held captive managed to subdue their Trandoshan captors. As the battle progressed, Wookiee reinforcements arrived, turning the tide and resulting in the deaths of all but three Trandoshans, including their commander, Garnac.

Prelude

Back in 20 BBY, amidst the ongoing Clone Wars, a Jedi task force—spearheaded by Jedi Master Plo Koon, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, along with his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano—journeyed back to the planet of Felucia. Their mission was to thwart another Separatist invasion. The droid armies, under the command of General Grievous, were scattered from a Separatist outpost.

Koon, Skywalker, and Tano, each accompanied by their respective clone troops, split into three distinct units to confront the droid forces. While Koon and Skywalker successfully reached their designated positions without incident, Tano, positioned behind the outpost's perimeter wall, was ambushed by Lo-Taren, a Trandoshan hunter concealed on the battlefield. He used his stun blaster to incapacitate her. The Padawan was then transported to the Trandoshan moon of Wasskah, a place where they hunt captured individuals for sport. Tano navigated through the moon's forests, attempting to evade the deadly hunters.

Near a tree, Tano was unexpectedly approached by a small group of escaped Jedi younglings: Kalifa, Jinx, and O-Mer. They implored her to join their group. This group preferred to maintain a low profile to avoid the aggressive Trandoshans. Kalifa, the group's leader, urged Tano to do the same. However, Tano disregarded Kalifa's caution and decided to confront Lo-Taren, who was pursuing them. Lo-Taren quickly fired at Tano. Tano responded by using the Force to grip his neck and hurl him against a tree, rendering him unconscious. However, the Trandoshan swiftly recovered and charged toward Tano, but Kalifa intervened, using the Force to choke him in mid-air, much to Tano's surprise. Although Lo-Taren escaped unharmed, he cried out, alerting Ratter and Sochek, who were nearby. Before they could arrive, Jinx and O-Mer managed to subdue Lo-Taren, and the group fled the area. Later, around a campfire, Tano proposed a new strategy to confront the Trandoshans in order to ensure their survival.

The following day, as they ventured out to locate the hidden Trandoshan compound, the group stumbled upon their floating fortress, alerting the Trandoshans inside. While the Jedi were fleeing from enemy fire atop the trees, Kalifa lost her balance and fell to the ground. Garnac, the Trandoshan leader, observing her fall from his customized hover pod, instructed his son, Dar, to eliminate Kalifa. Despite her efforts to defend herself, Kalifa was ultimately rescued by Tano, who kicked the young Trandoshan off a cliff, causing him to fall onto a sharp object below.

Garnac, enraged by the death of his son, directed the blaster cannons of his hover pod at Kalifa, killing her. He vowed to eliminate Tano as well, but the Padawan managed to evade the Trandoshan's repeated attacks and rejoined O-Mer and Jinx. The loss of Kalifa, along with the constant close calls they faced, motivated Tano to launch another offensive—this time by directly attacking the Trandoshan prisoner drop ship. Despite Jinx's skepticism due to their previous setbacks, he agreed to follow Tano, seeing no other option.

The battle

Attacking the slave ship

Upon returning to the drop site, Tano patiently waited for the Trandoshan prisoner drop ship—piloted by Clutch and Goron—to descend from the atmosphere and hover above a beach. As the drop ship remained suspended in the air, Tano signaled O-Mer and Jinx to jump onto the ship's hull, taking the pilots by surprise. Clutch, recognizing Tano, ordered Goron to pursue the elusive Padawan by climbing onto the ship's hull with his blaster rifle. Goron quickly located Tano, but O-Mer and Jinx intervened, startling the Trandoshan and tackling him to the ground.

Goron fights Jinx and O-Mer

As Tano entered the ship's cabin to confront Clutch, O-Mer and Jinx found themselves engaged in a hand-to-hand fight with Goron, who eventually began to strangle Jinx. Inside the cabin, Tano attempted to surprise Clutch, but the Trandoshan was aware of her presence and engaged her with his stun blaster. Tano dodged his attacks and pushed the Trandoshan against the ship's controls, damaging them.

The ship began to spin violently due to Clutch's struggle with Tano, causing Goron and Jinx to dangle from the hull. Neither Clutch nor Tano relented, continuing their fight until the Padawan used the Force to push Clutch, smashing his head through a window. With the ship's controls severely damaged, the ship continued to spin until it violently disintegrated. Still dangling, Goron grabbed Jinx's leg in a desperate attempt to kill the youngling, but O-Mer intervened, kicking the Trandoshan off the hull.

With the two Trandoshans defeated, Tano took the pilot's seat to attempt a landing and rescue the ship's captives. However, Jinx, fearing for Tano's safety, instructed the Padawan to jettison the prisoner capsule from the ship's underbelly, saving everyone on board. On the ground, Tano, Jinx, and O-Mer encountered Chewbacca, a Wookiee prisoner, after hearing his cries, and they fled the scene together.

The following day, Garnac, Ratter, and Sochek inspected the wreckage, realizing that the Jedi had freed their prized Wookiee, the ship's only prisoner. With the Trandoshans on high alert, Tano led her group back to their hideout to learn more about Chewbacca's grievances against the Trandoshans, who posed a neighboring threat. Chewbacca explained that the only way to escape Garnac's hunting party was to contact his nearby homeworld by creating a transmitter using parts from the drop ship's wreckage.

Contacting Kashyyyk

To maintain a low profile, Tano divided the group into two teams: she and Chewbacca would go to the crash site, while O-Mer and Jinx would watch for any enemy activity. Unbeknownst to them, Trandoshans Krix and Smug were flying in their hover pod, seeking to establish a sniper position near the wreckage site. Tano spotted them before O-Mer and Jinx could, and she quietly directed Chewbacca to the downed ship.

As Chewbacca and Tano searched the ship for parts for the transmitter, Smug, using his sniper scope, caught sight of them through the ship's window. Realizing the danger, O-Mer and Jinx carefully climbed Smug's tree in time to save Tano from a sniper shot. They attempted to disarm the Trandoshan, and in the ensuing struggle, they fell from the tree. Smug quickly recovered, followed closely by O-Mer, who attacked the Trandoshan with his fists. Jinx soon joined in, but his attempt was cut short when Smug threatened his life with a dagger. Before he could kill Jinx, Chewbacca overpowered the Trandoshan with his strength and took him prisoner.

Back at their hideout, Chewbacca's attempt to construct a transmitter failed, much to Jinx's disappointment. Instead of reaching out to Kashyyyk, Jinx wanted to use Smug to their advantage—an idea that divided the group. While Tano trusted Chewbacca, Jinx and O-Mer turned to Smug, hoping he could help them secure a hover pod to access Garnac's flying fortress. The next morning, the foursome returned to the crash site with Smug. After Jinx used a mind trick on Smug to get him to cooperate, the Trandoshan called for a speeder. Unaware of his capture and captors, Sochek came to Smug's rescue and was immediately attacked by Chewbacca, allowing O-Mer to take control of the hover pod.

Infiltrating the flying fortress

Meanwhile, in their abandoned hideout, Chewbacca's transmitter successfully contacted a group of Wookiees on Kashyyyk, including Chewbacca's ally, General Tarfful. Back at the flying fortress, Tano's group surprised Lagon and Ratter, throwing Lagon overboard to his death. Ratter cried out for reinforcements, alerting Garnac, Lo-Taren, and Gilas on a platform above. Garnac ordered his men to eliminate the foursome, but they encountered setbacks due to Chewbacca's strength and Tano's leadership. However, the momentum shifted in Garnac's favor when he shot down O-Mer's orbiting hover pod, causing it to crash on the fortress. Although O-Mer survived, Garnac's men surrounded the foursome, aiming their blasters at them.

Chewbacca fights Ratter

Just when all hope seemed lost, Tarfful arrived aboard the Halo—an SS-54 assault ship owned by the bounty hunter Sugi—ending any hope for the Trandoshans, who were now at the mercy of Tarfful's Wookiee mercenaries. Their strength, combined with the Jedi, forced Garnac to retreat into the fortress's command center. Seeing his retreat, Tano used the Force to jump to the higher platform to confront Garnac, who ambushed her with an axe. Despite his repeated attacks, Tano used the Force to push Garnac away.

Outside, Tarfful, Chewbacca, O-Mer, and Jinx hid behind a fallen hover pod, exchanging fire with Lo-Taren and Gilas. To break the stalemate, Tarfful aimed his long gun at Lo-Taren, killing him before turning his attention to Gilas. Inside the command center, Garnac recovered from Tano's Force attacks and used his physical strength to gain the upper hand in their fistfight. He attempted to kill her with his blaster rifle, but the Padawan quickly knocked him to the ground and claimed victory. However, Garnac refused to concede defeat, accusing Tano of murdering his son. As he reached for his blaster, Tano's warning went unheeded, forcing her to use the Force to push him out of the command center and over the fortress's railing. However, Garnac survived the fall.

Aftermath

Ahsoka and the younglings returned to the Jedi Order following the battle. Garnac's hunting guild was effectively destroyed. However, four of the Trandoshans survived: Ramy and Garnac, who had survived their falls, and Krix and Smug, who eventually regained consciousness after the hijacking of their pod. Ramy, Krix, and Smug relocated to Nal Hutta, while Garnac met with Grini Millegi.
