Bright Tree Village

Bright Tree Village, situated on Endor during the Galactic Civil War, served as the ancestral dwelling for the eponymous tribe of Ewoks.

Characteristics

Nestled amid the evergreen trees within Endor's Happy Grove Forest, the village was constructed approximately fifteen meters above the forest floor. Here, nearly 200 Ewoks resided in nest-like, thatched huts clinging to the evergreen trees. Central to the village were communal gathering spaces, along with residences for the tribal elders and the family of Chief Chirpa, including the Council of Elders. Larger huts, accommodating extended families, were clustered along the village's outer perimeters. A network of rope ladders, bridges, vines, and catwalks facilitated movement throughout the village. While most villagers inhabited the upper forest canopy, unmarried Ewoks maintained small huts beneath the main village, serving as lookouts for greater perils.

The village at night

Watchers utilized the village's upper canopy to warn of approaching gorax and condor dragons, and fires along with torchlights illuminated the village at night. The bark of the conifer trees surrounding Bright Tree Village offered fire resistance and acted as an effective insect repellent. The boughs of these trees were crafted into excellent spears, bows, slingshots, glider frames, and catapult arms. Gliders could be launched from the canopy to patrol the surrounding lands and valleys. Following traditional Ewok architectural styles, the huts within Bright Tree Village were warm and comfortable. A cooking fire was centrally located, utilized for roasting meat on a spit and boiling soups in clay pots. Storerooms containing food and kindling were situated beneath the floor, while sleeping mats and furs were arranged in the lofts above. Wooden stools and baskets were common features, and Ewok hoods, capes, and tools adorned the walls.

Despite spending a significant amount of time in the trees, the inhabitants of Bright Tree Village were required to descend to the forest floor to gather berries, collect herbs, and hunt for sustenance. Certain Ewoks, such as the Warrick family, kept huts and lodges on the ground.

History

C-3PO recounts the tale of the Rebel Alliance to the Ewoks.

Prior to the Battle of Endor, the Ewok Romba became a refugee after the destruction of his own village to accommodate a shield generator complex employed by the Galactic Empire for the construction of the second Death Star. Chief Chirpa eventually welcomed him into Bright Tree Village, where Chirpa would govern for 42 seasons leading up to the battle.

In the time leading up to the Battle of Endor, the Ewoks captured Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2 near the village after Chewbacca attempted to consume a dead verkle used as bait. Wicket W. Warrick, a lone Ewok, also befriended Princess Leia Organa, who had become separated from the others. He brought Leia back to the village, and as gratitude for her heroic actions, they gifted her a dress. The other Rebels were taken as prisoners in the village and almost cooked for a feast. However, C-3PO, whom the Ewoks perceived as a deity, convinced them to release the prisoners after Luke used the Force to lift Threepio off the ground, which frightened many of the Ewoks into submission.

After Threepio shared the story of the Alliance's battles against the Galactic Empire, the group was welcomed into the tribe following a discussion between Chirpa, the shaman Logray, and his two best hunters, Teebo and Asha Fahn. Unbeknownst to the Rebels, the Ewoks held a war council in the village during the night, where Chirpa reminded everyone of the tribe members who had died and the villages that had been burned by the Empire. This convinced the village to fight against the Empire, as did one of his best hunters, Asha, whereas Romba argued the upcoming struggle included all Ewok tribes. Chirpa then dispatched messengers to the other tribes to request their assistance.

Bright Tree Village the night after the Battle of Endor

Later, the Ewoks participated in the fight against the Galactic Empire. In the aftermath of their victory, two surviving Imperial TIE Fighters attempted to strike the village, but the Ghost intercepted and destroyed them. That night, the village was the location of the celebrations marking the death of Emperor Sheev Palpatine and the Empire's defeat.

Decades following the Battle of Endor, the village remained composed primarily of a few simple, scattered huts. Scavenged Imperial equipment served as the only visible reminder of the village's part in the battle.

Kneesaa, Chief Chirpa's daughter, eventually succeeded the late chief.

In 35 ABY, after the Battle of Exegol, Wicket and his son Pommet Warrick witnessed the destruction of a Resurgent-class Star Destroyer in orbit.
