Grievous's family

The Kaleesh warrior known as Qymaen jai Sheelal, who would later be called Grievous, entered the world on the planet of Kalee. This planet is situated in Wild Space, and his family consisted of his biological father and other blood relatives.

History

A male Kaleesh, Qymaen jai Sheelal, first born into existence amidst the nearly constant Kaleesh war against the Yam'rii from Huk, an insect-like species originating from the same system. The Yam'rii had previously invaded numerous planets within their sector without mercy, looting their resources and selling the inhabitants into slavery. The Kaleesh became victims of the Yam'rii, who possessed superior technology. Sheelal was taught by his father to wield a Czerka Arms Outland rifle. By the time he reached the age of eight, he had already taken the lives of at least 40 adversaries. Eventually, the Kaleesh began to regard him as a figure of legend.

Decades prior to the Clone Wars, Sheelal, who had the capacity to inspire and galvanize his people, spearheaded them in a merciless war against the Yam'rii. He evolved into one of the most significant military commanders of his people, thus acquiring a reputation for brutality. Qymaen jai Sheelal ultimately adopted the moniker "Grievous" and swiftly climbed the ranks, becoming a warlord. Grievous then shifted his focus to the cosmos, embarking on conquests beyond his own planet throughout space, overthrowing nations, assassinating kings, and slaughtering legendary figures. He persisted in his struggle against the invading Yam'rii for years, journeying and battling alongside a dedicated team of personal protectors known as the Izvoshra.

In the end, the Kaleesh forces, fueled by Grievous's renewed intensity and resolve, expelled the Yam'rii from their homeworld. However, unexpectedly, their adversaries sought assistance from the Republic. When the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order intervened and sided with the Yam'rii, hundreds of thousands of Kaleesh perished due to starvation, leading Grievous to cultivate a deep-seated personal grudge against them.

Count Dooku of Serenno and Darth Sidious, his Sith Master, perceived promise within him. Grievous's animosity towards the Republic and the Jedi propelled him to align with the InterGalactic Banking Clan as an agent. His plea to retain his faithful Izvoshra bodyguards was denied; instead, IGBC droids were assigned to replace them as the forces under his command, a change he detested. When Grievous insisted on a more sophisticated bodyguard, Dooku ultimately sanctioned the creation of the IG-100 Magnaguards. He proved to be a powerful force in his endeavors and rapidly became one of the IGBC's most prized assets. By this juncture, his actions had garnered the attention of Dooku, who harbored significant intentions for him.

Grievous opted to undergo cybernetic enhancements, and over time, he initiated profound alterations to his cybernetic form, progressively exchanging his organic components for advanced mechanical ones. Grievous asserted that he viewed his cybernetics as superior to a weaker, organic form. Furthermore, Dooku betrayed Grievous by sabotaging his shuttle, causing it to crash and obliterate the majority of his remaining organic Kaleesh body. Nevertheless, subsequent historical analyses have cast doubt on Dooku's involvement as a manipulator in Grievous's transformation: ultimately, Grievous had made the choice to become a cyborg and, therefore, was not truly a victim of some grander scheme.

Grievous as a cyborg warrior

Grievous, a masterful strategist, held the position of Supreme Martial Commander of the Separatist Droid Armies for the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. He was enlisted by Count Dooku to join the Separatist Movement. Despite lacking Force-sensitivity, Grievous, leveraging his cybernetics and proficiency in Lightsaber combat, functioned as a Jedi hunter for the Confederacy and killed numerous Jedi. The Kaleesh cyborg demonstrated ruthlessness as he invaded planets and engaged Jedi in combat throughout the Clone Wars, instilling fear within the Galactic Republic. Grievous also possessed a personal fortress situated on Vassek 3, where he kept a pet roggwart named Gor, but the creature was killed by Jedi Kit Fisto and Nahdar Vebb when they infiltrated his lair.

On one occasion, Grievous invaded a Jedi temple located on the planet Ledeve, where he encountered a Force vision in which voices derided him for severing his connection to his organic self. According to these voices, Grievous had forsaken any link to the Force in a futile crusade to eradicate the power he could not comprehend. Instead, they asserted that Grievous was someone who believed he understood a new power he had found in cybernetics, yet the voices declared he was insignificant and would never transcend that limitation. Enraged by what he heard, Grievous commanded his orbiting Providence-class Dreadnought to bombard the temple, which Grievous interpreted as a triumph over the voices because they were as easily incinerated as anything else. However, a blue light then escaped the temple. In 19 BBY, days after he assumed the role of Separatist Head of State following the death of his mentor in Lightsaber combat, Count Dooku, during the Battle of Coruscant, Grievous met his demise during the Battle of Utapau at the hands of his nemesis, Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi.
