Eleventh Brother

The Eleventh Brother was an agent of the Galactic Empire, specifically an Inquisitor tasked with the role of a Jedi hunter during the era known as the Great Jedi Purge. Sometime around or following 18 BBY, he journeyed to an agricultural community after a resident provided the Empire with information regarding the presence of a Jedi in that location. The Jedi in question was former Padawan Ahsoka Tano. When the Inquisitor arrived, Tano was not present in the village. This led him to obliterate the settlement, ending the lives of everyone except the informant and an elderly man. Upon Tano's return from a crop delivery with the informant's sister, the Inquisitor identified her. However, she intervened to save the informant's life and subsequently eliminated the Inquisitor using his own double-bladed spinning lightsaber.

As a Force-sensitive humanoid, the Eleventh Brother was a member of the Galactic Empire's Inquisitorius, serving as an Inquisitor dedicated to hunting down Jedi. In the aftermath of Operation: Knightfall around 19 BBY, he convened with fellow Inquisitors, including The Grand Inquisitor, the First Brother, Barriss Offee, and the Fourth Sister. This meeting took place within Fortress Inquisitorius, located on the lunar body Nur. Together, the Inquisitors knelt before Sith commander Darth Vader, who had recently become the new Master of the Inquisitors.

Facing Ahsoka Tano

Around or after 18 BBY, the Eleventh Brother received intel from a local regarding the Togruta Ahsoka Tano, Vader’s former apprentice, who was hiding in a small town. He then went to the settlement to investigate these claims. Not finding his target present, he massacred the inhabitants of the village, sparing only the informant and an old man. He held the two hostage in the village square as the settlement burned, circling them and menacing them with his spinning, double-bladed lightsaber. When the informant suggested he deserved a reward for his efforts, the Inquisitor dismissed his claim as a lie, stating it would not earn him favor from the Empire.

When Tano returned to the village with the informant's sibling after delivering crops, they discovered the village ablaze and the Inquisitor harassing the two farmers. Upon seeing Tano, the informant pointed her out to the Eleventh Brother, confirming his earlier claims. The Inquisitor acknowledged this and attempted to "reward" the informant with death. However, Tano used telekinesis to pull the man to safety, causing the Inquisitor's weapon to miss its mark. Intrigued, the Eleventh Brother recognized Tano and boasted about the reward he would receive for killing her. He attacked Tano, but she evaded his strikes, seized his weapon, and deactivated it. She then disarmed him and beheaded him. The Inquisitor's head was separated from his body, and his mask deflated upon hitting the ground.

Personality and traits

The Eleventh Brother was a humanoid being, exceeding 1.76 meters in height. He was characterized as cruel, impatient, and ambitious. Upon arriving at the farming village and not immediately finding Ahsoka, the Eleventh Brother slaughtered the entire population and set the village on fire. He also mocked the informant, accusing him of dishonesty. During his confrontation with Ahsoka, the Inquisitor mistakenly believed he would easily defeat the former Jedi and that her death would lead to significant rewards for him.

Equipment

The Eleventh Brother wore a skull-like helmet with glowing red eyes, and a dark cape featuring two prominent Imperial crests. This cape included a hood that he used to cover his head. His primary weapon was a red double-bladed spinning lightsaber.

Behind the scenes

The Eleventh Brother was portrayed by actor Clancy Brown.

The Eleventh Brother made an appearance in "Resolve," the sixth episode of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, where he was played by Clancy Brown. In the novel Ahsoka by E. K. Johnston, Ahsoka Tano fights and overcomes an Inquisitor known as the Sixth Brother during the Raada Uprising. When Johnston saw the trailer for Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, she initially thought the Inquisitor was a different character from the Sixth Brother, because he was threatening someone other than Kaeden Larte. When a fan suggested the Inquisitor might still be the Sixth Brother, she joked that her initial assumption was due to a lack of optimism.

Addressing potential inconsistencies, Johnston expressed her hope that fans would not consider her novel non-canon, emphasizing that Dave Filoni had approved the book years prior. She acknowledged that changes to Tano's story were inevitable. Upon the release of Tales of the Jedi, Filoni confirmed that the episode was based on the same outline used for the Ahsoka novel, indicating that it was intended to depict the same events. However, the reference book Star Wars The Dark Side Pocket Expert, which includes information from the Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi series, states that the Sixth Brother only appears in Ahsoka and Star Wars: Darth Vader (2017). Furthermore, the description of the Sixth Brother in Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade matches the description in Ahsoka, noting that he has blue eyes, while the Inquisitor in Tales of the Jedi is shown with red eyes.

The 2024 reference book Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy stated that the Inquisitor in "Resolve" was a separate character, naming him the First Brother. However, Lucasfilm Story Group member Leland Chee later clarified that this was a mistake and that the actual "First Brother" was meant to be the Inquisitor Marrok. Despite this error, the encyclopedia still lists the Sixth Brother and the Inquisitor from "Resolve" as distinct individuals with separate entries. The Inquisitor was officially named the Eleventh Brother a few weeks later with the publication of Star Wars Insider 229.
