Bom Vimdin, an Advozse of ill repute, operated as a mercenary, engaged in smuggling, and ran a black market business, making him universally despised. His association with corrupt officials, provision of illegal goods to Imperial officers, and general disregard for the law resulted in him being a wanted man by the Galactic Empire. The Empire captured and imprisoned him in 0 BBY aboard the Death Star superweapon, but he successfully broke out of his cell utilizing an explosive device.
Following his escape, he frequented Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina, located within the spaceport of Mos Eisley on the planet Tatooine, where he sat with Hem Dazon, Pons Limbic, Braconnor Bakiska, and Arleil Schous. He was also present in the cantina when Boba Fett, a bounty hunter, sought information from the patrons regarding Luke Skywalker, a local moisture farmer. Later, Exantor Divo, a commissioner in the New Republic police, documented Vimdin's activities in his book, Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious.

Born on the planet Riflor around 29 BBY, Bom Vimdin, an Advozse mercenary, rose to prominence as a highly successful smuggler and black marketeer in the Outer Rim Territories. He specialized in providing forbidden goods and entertainment to Imperial officers, activities that violated Imperial regulations. By 7977.44.3 C.R.C., he was a wanted criminal, accused of collusion, bribery, theft, and conspiracy against the Galactic Empire, despite indirectly aiding the Imperials.
Agent Andressa Divo of the Imperial Security Bureau mentioned Vimdin in her notes, describing him as a "disease-carrying parasite" and an "amoral magnet" who corrupted human morals and played a significant role in enticing Imperial officials into accepting bribes. She also observed the Empire's lack of effective defenses against criminals like Vimdin.
In 0 BBY, the Empire captured and imprisoned him within a cell located on the Death Star superweapon. Vimdin acquired an explosive device and detonated it to create an opening in his cell, enabling him to escape into the adjacent corridor and evade pursuing stormtroopers. Shortly after his escape from the Death Star, Vimdin was at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in the Mos Eisley spaceport on Tatooine when Bossk, a bounty hunter, searched for the renegade Imperial astromech droid 261.

Not long before the Battle of Yavin in 0 BBY, Vimdin was again inside the cantina, seated at a booth in one of the backrooms with Hem Dazon, an Arcona; Pons Limbic, a Siniteen; Braconnor Bakiska, a Stennes Shifter; and Arleil Schous, a Defel. As the group sat together, Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi Master, and Luke Skywalker, a local moisture farmer, entered the establishment in search of a pilot to transport them to Alderaan. Dazon, Bakiska, and Vimdin remained in the booth with other patrons when Kenobi and Skywalker had a confrontation with Doctor Cornelius Evazan and Ponda Baba at the bar.
In 0 ABY, after the Battle of Yavin, both Vimdin and Limbic were present at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina when Boba Fett, a bounty hunter, entered, trying to discover Skywalker's identity. They stood silently with the crowd as Fett questioned them until one of the other patrons challenged him. Fett defeated the patron and eventually obtained the information he was seeking by interrogating a human who attempted to escape the bar.
During the New Republic Era, Exantor Divo, a commissioner in the New Republic police and son of Andressa, wrote about Vimdin in his book, Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious. Published in 34 ABY, it detailed the experiences of three generations of law enforcement officials in his family. Divo included his mother's notes and the criminal's Imperial wanted poster, portraying Vimdin as an example of the opportunists who tempted Imperial officers assigned to difficult postings.

Universally disliked, Bom Vimdin was a solitary and pessimistic individual, preoccupied with his credit balance. Cynical by nature, he mostly kept to himself and distrusted even those who sought his services. He was an opportunist with a knack for identifying vulnerable Imperials, leading him to take the risk of contacting them, which earned him a reputation for collaborating with corrupt officials. This Advozse, characterized by pink skin and black eyes, held his own species in contempt. He was 1.8 meters in height.
Vimdin possessed above-average fighting skills, with average speed, strength, and intelligence. He had extremely poor diplomatic skills and lacked Force-sensitivity.

Bom Vimdin's debut was in the 1977 original trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. His scene was incorporated during additional filming for the cantina sequence on a sound stage in Dovington's Hollywood studio between January 24–25, 1977.
Rick Baker, the creature designer, provided Vimdin's costume, and on set, the character was nicknamed "Don Rickles" due to his resemblance to the famous Vegas insult-comic.

In Star Wars Workbook: Kindergarten Writing & ABCs, a 2014 installment in the Star Wars Workbooks series, Vimdin is portrayed in a hypothetical exercise sitting with a Gotal and watching Aayla Secura, a Jedi, sing. Vimdin made an appearance in Jeffrey Brown's 2021 non-canon children's book, A Vader Family Sithmas, where he is shown listening to holiday music performed by Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes at Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina. Paul Martin, a senior artist, created concept art of Vimdin for the video game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes; however, the character has not yet been included in the game.
Within the new Star Wars canon, Vimdin's name was first established in the mobile card game Star Wars: Force Collection, which initially launched in 2013. Despite the game's launch predating the Star Wars canon reset of 2014, Leland Chee, a member of the Lucasfilm Story Group, affirmed that the game was consistently updated to align with canon. The name originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where Louis J. Prosperi created it for the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game supplement Wanted by Cracken, published by West End Games in 1993.
