Crucival, a planet located in the Outer Rim, was a relatively insignificant world. It also served as the homeworld for Hazram Namir. Everi Chalis, an Imperial Governor who defected, contemplated establishing a new life there to evade detection by the Galactic Empire. The planet experienced near-constant warfare among various competing groups, notably the Malkhanis and their eventual successors, the Opaline Creed.
This terrestrial backwater planet, Crucival, could be found in the Tion Hegemony within the Outer Rim Territories. Its location was marked at coordinates S-6 on the Standard Galactic Grid. The landscape was predominantly characterized by vast expanses of yellow grass and towering mountains. On Crucival, encountering sentient species other than humans was an uncommon occurrence.
Following the conclusion of the Clone Wars, a galactic conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems that ended in 19 BBY, the victorious factions on Crucival turned against one another. During this period, the inhabitants had minimal contact with the broader galaxy, except for elements of the Galactic Empire, the Republic's successor, who were entrenched at a transmitter tower. Consequently, goods from off-world, like blasters, became scarce and highly prized. Around 6 BBY, the Malkhanis, a clan under the leadership of Warlord Malkhan, rose to prominence on Crucival, asserting their dominance over the world through a series of insurrections. The clan's achievements motivated a young Hazram Namir to join their ranks, forsaking his home and father and adopting the name Donin.
In that year, after a rival faction seized a quarry from the Malkhanis, clan members, including Namir, assembled on a hilltop to confront their enemies on the forty-seventh day of the Malkhani Insurrections. While the force awaited a battle, Namir noticed one of the Empire's TIE fighters. An older soldier cautioned him against interfering with the Empire, advising him to focus on the immediate conflict. Eventually, the Malkhanis' adversaries arrived, and both sides engaged in open fire. The insurrections came to an end after that day, and Malkhan died. The warlord's lieutenants each claimed their late leader's stash of off-world weapons, resulting in a civil war which saw many deaths and the end of the Malkhanis.
While numerous former members of the Malkhanis found themselves forced into a life on the streets, marked as outcasts by their brands, Namir discovered and joined the Opaline Creed. This religious cult was based at a cloister located outside the city of Templemarch, where he was given the name Umu Seven. In 4 BBY, four-hundred days into a period known as the Tripartite Culture Effrontery, Namir performed errands for the Creed at a bazaar before heading back towards Templemarch.
During his return to Templemarch, Namir encountered his father, but attempted to continue walking without acknowledging him. Namir's father tried to engage in conversation and invited his son to return home. However, Namir refused, clearly expressing his loyalty to the Creed. After his father left, he proceeded to Templemarch and the Creed cloister, where he reunited with fellow Creed member Pira Ten. They discussed an alien Namir had invented and the lack of conflict within the Creed, which Namir found uninteresting.
Eventually, the Creed collapsed, along with its cloister, and other factions emerged to lay claim to Crucival. Namir served several of these groups, including one led by the Lady of Coins, a leader of acolytes. In 0 BBY, the Rebel Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry set their sights on Crucival's Imperial transmitter tower. In anticipation of a rebel assault, the Imperials stationed there invited the residents of Crucival to fight on their side, offering offworld blasters as compensation. Namir accepted the invitation, along with a band of warriors he had recruited, including Pira, who were eager to end their cycle of moving between wars. The Battle of the Tower soon commenced, and nearly all of Namir's band died during the initial assault. The Imperial forces quickly sought refuge behind a substantial deflector shield surrounding the tower, leaving their civilian recruits to confront the rebel forces alone, with the exception of TIE fighters and probe droids.
On the fourth day of the battle, the 61st and its CR90 corvette Thunderstrike had yet to breach the shield. While some Crucival residents continued fighting, Namir chose to abandon his position, sustaining an injury while attempting to evade a probe droid. Subsequently, the soldier discovered a fatally wounded Pira, and they spoke until she succumbed to her injuries. After Namir escaped the battlefield and watched the fighting continue from the ruins of the Creed cloister. The transmitter tower fell the next day, and the 61st began recruiting Crucival residents a week later. Namir, having spent near a week scavenging in the cloister went and enlisted, speaking with the Besalisk rebel trooper Gadren about war, other planets and Namir's experience with wars. Namir subsequently joined the 61st and departed Crucival with the rebel company. Following the failure of Operation Ringbreaker and seeking to avoid further conflict to pursue her artistic career on a remote world, former Governor Everi Chalis—a defector to both the Empire and Rebellion—resolved to make a fresh start on Crucival, having learned about it from Namir.
On Crucival, the Empire maintained operations from a transmitter tower until its fall during the Battle of the Tower. Meanwhile, the Malkhanis controlled their own territories for some time, which included a camp and a quarry that was at one point captured by enemies. Crucival also featured the city of Templemarch, where the Opaline Creed operated from a cloister just outside that was reduced to ruins after the Creed's fall. There was also at least one bazaar that was a walking distance Templemarch, as well as the Gulches.
Crucival made its debut appearance in the 2015 novel titled Battlefront: Twilight Company, authored by Alexander Freed.
