The Imperial Super Commandos were Mandalorian soldiers under the Galactic Empire's banner, renowned for their martial skills that were only surpassed by their brutal methods. Governor Gar Saxon, the Viceroy of Mandalore, commanded them. Functioning as Saxon's personal elite force, the Imperial Super Commandos executed perilous assignments, notably ambushing and annihilating the Mandalorian Protectors, an age-old order of Mandalorian warriors.

The Imperial Super Commandos wore all white Mandalorian armor constructed from beskar, complete with a jetpack and specialized visored helmets. Gar Saxon, their leader, sported armor painted a striking red to signify his authority. They wielded Imperial Supercommando Blaster Rifles, unique blaster rifles equipped with a shoulder stock and scopes that discharged yellow blaster bolts. While designed and produced on Mandalore, their Imperial Super Commando armor visually resembled stormtroopers to indicate their allegiance to the Galactic Empire. Typically, it was white, much like stormtrooper armor, but it could be accented with different colors to show rank: Gar Saxon, being the Imperial Viceroy of Mandalore, added red paint, while Tristan Wren, an Imperial Super Commando, had yellow shoulder tips.

During the Imperial Era, the soldiers of Viceroy Gar Saxon were the Imperial Super Commandos. Saxon, the Emperor's Hand, governed the Mandalorians on behalf of the Empire. The Commandos were responsible for the destruction of a substantial portion of the artwork created by the late Mandalorian artist Veraslayn Kast. As punishment for Sabine Wren's escape from the Imperial Academy on Mandalore, Saxon forced Sabine's younger brother, Tristan Wren, to serve within the Super Commandos to demonstrate Clan Wren's dedication to the Empire.
In 2 BBY, after Saxon and his Super Commandos committed a massacre of the Mandalorian Protectors of Concord Dawn as retribution for their leader, Fenn Rau, secretly permitting the rebellion to pass safely through the Concord Dawn system, Saxon and his Super Commandos ambushed the Spectres Sabine, Ezra Bridger, and Chopper at the Protectors Camp located on the Third moon of Concord Dawn. Following a skirmish, the Spectres, aided by Rau, successfully escaped.

Later, Tristan and Clan Wren warriors intercepted Sabine and her Jedi allies, Ezra and Kanan Jarrus, following their visit to Krownest to seek the rebellion's support from Sabine's mother, Ursa Wren. Subsequently, Viceroy Saxon and his Super Commandos arrived to capture the Jedi and destroy Clan Wren. Confronted with a choice between his family and Saxon, Tristan sided with his family and turned against Saxon and his Super Commandos. After a skirmish, the Wrens, their Jedi allies, and Rau triumphed over Saxon and his Super Commandos.
Saxon's death triggered a civil war on Mandalore. The commandos then operated under Mandalore's new Imperial governor, Tiber Saxon, who was also Saxon's brother. In 1 BBY, commandos under Captain Hark accompanied a convoy of stormtroopers and scout troopers to escort Alrich Wren for execution in Sundari. The commandos fought against numerous members of the Spectres and Clan Wren.
Saxon then deployed a new weapon against several Mandalorians under Ursa and Tristan. The weapon vaporized all the warriors except the Wrens. Saxon and Hark later set up a trap to capture the weapon's original creator, Sabine. At first, Saxon and Hark were able to force Sabine to enhance the weapon's range, but she was able to modify it to target Saxon's and his stormtroopers' armor. After Sabine destroyed the weapon, Saxon was killed as his Star Destroyer blew up.
The Mandalorian Aran Tal possessed a set of Imperial Super Commando armor, which he wore as a member of the Hunters of the Outer Rim. For Tal, donning the armor—referred to as the "Imperial Justice" gear—served as a reminder of events he would otherwise prefer to forget. During the New Republic Era, the helmet of an Imperial Super Commando was spotted at Aunt Z's Tavern on the Colossus.

The Imperial Super Commandos made their debut in the Star Wars Rebels 2016 episode titled "Imperial Supercommandos." Pablo Hidalgo mentioned in a Rebels Recon video that he and Dave Filoni used unused designs for Boba Fett from The Empire Strikes Back, when Boba himself was going to be a Super Commando, as inspiration for the Super Commandos' design. Hidalgo also stated that the Super Commandos' armor was intended to mirror the Empire.
