Torra Doza's abduction

The events surrounding Torra Doza's abduction unfolded in 34 ABY. The First Order orchestrated this operation, enlisting the services of pirate Kragan Gorr and his Warbird gang. Their objective was to kidnap Captain Imanuel Doza's daughter, Torra. This action was intended to force Doza to cede control of the Colossus to the First Order.

Background

The First Order was making preparations for their impending conflict with the New Republic and the wider galaxy. As part of their strategy, they sought to gain control of the Colossus platform situated on Castilon, envisioning it as a strategic staging ground. To avoid direct involvement at this stage, they contracted Kragan Gorr and his Warbird gang to launch repeated assaults on the platform. The aim was to pressure Captain Imanuel Doza, the owner of the Colossus, into permitting a First Order presence on the station, ostensibly for security purposes.

Concurrently, the Resistance detected First Order activity near the platform. Consequently, they dispatched Kazuda Xiono, a newly-recruited spy, on a mission to the platform, accompanied by astromech droid BB-8. Xiono participated in, and helped repel, two of the pirate attacks, remaining unaware of the link between the pirates and the First Order. Ironically, Xiono, along with Poe Dameron, inadvertently aided the Warbird gang in placing their own spy, Synara San, on the Colossus when they rescued her from a damaged freighter following a botched raid. Xiono considered San a friend, oblivious to her true allegiance. Over time, San began to reciprocate, developing affection for Xiono and his associates, including Tamara Ryvora and Torra Doza. However, BB-8 remained suspicious of San's motives.

The second attack by the Warbirds inflicted significant damage on the platform, prompting Captain Doza to reconsider the First Order's offer of protection. However, Doza's hesitation frustrated the First Order. They were also dissatisfied with the pirates' failure to compel Doza to accept their terms. As a result, Commander Pyre and Captain Phasma devised an alternative strategy. During a hologram communication with Gorr regarding his gang's ineffectiveness, the Quarren demanded a threefold increase in his initial payment due to unexpected losses during the campaign. Pyre and Phasma agreed, but insisted that Gorr and his gang kidnap Torra, who Doza deeply cared for and protected. Gorr accepted the revised terms.

The Kidnapping Operation

Gorr contacted San several hours before the planned operation, instructing her to work the late shift at the Colossus loading docks that night. Her task was to ensure that a cargo container, concealing Drell and Valik, passed through security and to assist them in entering Doza Tower. San grew suspicious and demanded to know the operation's details, but Gorr refused to elaborate, accusing her of becoming too attached to the platform. He assured her that after the operation, she could return to the Warbirds and her real friends. San then went to Aunt Z's Tavern, where she encountered Xiono, Ryvora, and Torra, who were playing holo-darts. Torra, reminded of her newly-acquired hologame Drone-Blaster, invited Xiono, Ryvora, San, and BB-8 to her bedroom in Doza Tower. San was surprised by the invitation and the fact that they considered her a friend. While playing the game, San inquired about the increased security presence in the tower, which Torra attributed to the possible presence of spies on the Colossus. San eventually had to leave due to her comlink signaling. Torra told everyone that, as her friends, they were welcome to use her security code to access the tower anytime.

That evening, Captain Doza received a communication from Commander Pyre, who emphasized that without First Order protection, the pirate attacks would persist. Pyre pointed out that Doza needed soldiers, not racers like the Ace Squadron, to safeguard his platform. Doza remained hesitant. The conversation was interrupted by Torra's arrival, and her father asked her to leave as he was discussing an important security matter.

Later that night, as planned, the crate containing Drell, Valik, and their speeder bikes was delivered to the Colossus. San, working the late shift, was present at the loading docks to release them once they were alone. Unbeknownst to her, Xiono, accompanied by BB-8, decided to visit the loading docks in search of parts for the Fireball. They arrived to witness San with her fellow pirates and hid, with Xiono assuming she was in some kind of danger. When the three pirates left the loading docks, the two Resistance members followed, taking care to remain hidden. Despite their efforts to be silent, Drell heard them in the Colossus' internal corridors and turned around, but Xiono and BB-8 were already concealed. Xiono had to stifle a cry of pain when BB-8 rolled over his foot until the pirates had passed. Afterwards, they ran off in search, unable to determine which door the pirates had entered, as Xiono was now convinced that San was in danger.

San, Valik, and Drell used a grappling cord to scale Doza Tower to a level with an external door. Avoiding a few security droids, they reached the door, and San used Torra's security code to grant the pirates access. Valik and Drell proceeded, instructing San to stand guard. It was only as they left that Drell revealed to San that their mission was to kidnap Torra. San, having grown attached to the girl, was horrified and departed, unsure of what to do. On their way to their target, the two pirates disabled four security droids using a droid popper. Torra was in her room, playing Drone-Blaster with her back to the door, when Valik and Drell arrived. Her pet Buggles alerted her to the pirates' presence by growling.

In the lower levels, San contacted Gorr, demanding an explanation for the kidnapping. He explained that the First Order had promised to triple their payment for the mission and accused her of becoming soft and viewing the Colossus residents as friends. He ordered San to proceed to the skiff and bring Torra to him. Disgusted, San resolved to thwart the abduction. Captain Doza was alerted to the deactivated droids and his daughter's absence by 4D-M1N and immediately ordered security droids to search the entire platform.

Xiono encountered San on the lower levels, and she informed him of Torra's kidnapping and the need to stop it. However, they arrived at the loading docks too late, witnessing Valik and Drell fleeing over the ocean on their speeder bikes with Torra. They then headed to Jarek Yeager's Repair Station, where Xiono instructed San to contact Captain Doza while he and BB-8 entered the Fireball. Upon learning that his daughter and her kidnappers were off the platform, Doza ordered the Aces to scramble, as Xiono pursued the pirates in his ship. Xiono gained enough of a lead to observe Drell and Valik meeting with a skiff piloted by a Hassk pirate, which they boarded before launching their bikes with brightly-glowing engines as decoys, leaving them onboard the harder-to-spot skiff. Gorr, informed of the kidnapping's success, contacted Commander Pyre, who informed the pirate leader that his payment was en route. Drell manned the skiff's turbolaser and managed to damage the Fireball's transponder, preventing Xiono from immediately relaying his coordinates.

When the Aces scrambled, they initially located the abandoned speeder bikes, only to realize they were decoys when Bo Keevil flew low enough for a closer look. They then broadened their search pattern. Xiono continued to pursue the skiff, evading fire, as BB-8 worked to repair the Fireball. Torra feigned a slip and kicked the base of the weapon, disabling it and allowing Xiono to follow more closely. The skiff eventually reached Gorr's sail barge, the Galleon, and Xiono was forced to retreat again due to turbolaser fire. The pirates dragged Torra aboard as she struggled. BB-8 was forced to extinguish several fires before completing the transponder repair, and Xiono immediately relayed the coordinates to Doza and the Aces. At this point, the Fireball's proximity alarms detected an approaching Upsilon-class command shuttle, causing Xiono to veer further away from the Galleon.

The shuttle docked with the pirate vessel, and Major Elrik Vonreg and several stormtroopers disembarked. Vonreg, carrying a case, informed the pirates that Commander Pyre "sent his regards" before opening fire on them, as he and his crew "rescued" Torra from the kidnapping they had orchestrated. Xiono, observing from the Fireball, was astonished by the rescue, as the First Order vessel attacked their former pirate allies. Gorr, meanwhile, was enraged by the betrayal. Doza, after being contacted by Vonreg, ordered the approaching Aces to hold their fire and escort Vonreg's shuttle back to the Colossus.

Consequences

Vonreg, after reuniting Torra with her father, insisted on leaving behind a small guard detail. Captain Doza, grateful for the "rescue", requested more time to consider the First Order's offer, as he wanted to ensure his daughter's well-being. Xiono, returning to the Colossus and witnessing Vonreg's departure, expressed his disbelief at the events to BB-8, who agreed that something was amiss. However, most residents of the Colossus, including Tam, were deceived by the ploy, believing the rescue was genuine and that the increased stormtrooper presence was solely due to Captain Doza's desire for enhanced security. This paved the way for the First Order to begin their occupation of the planet.

At the loading docks, San contacted Gorr and was informed that the First Order had betrayed the Warbirds, terminating their agreement. San inquired about her fate, but was forced to end the transmission upon hearing Xiono and BB-8 approaching. Xiono confirmed that San had been with two "customers" earlier in the evening and departed. Discussing the matter with BB-8, he agreed that the droid's distrust of San was justified, as she was clearly a pirate or associated with them. However, despite realizing that San was a spy, Xiono still helped her escape from the First Order before they could apprehend her.
