Rogue-class Porax-38 starfighter

The Rogue-class Porax-38 starfighter, alternatively referred to as the Rogue-class starfighter, Porax-38 starfighter, or even the P-38 fighter, represented a starfighter design. It was jointly produced by Baktoid Armor Workshop together with Buuper Torsckil Abbey Devices, and saw service within the forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the era of the Clone Wars. Frequently piloted by IG-100 MagnaGuards that had been specifically programmed, it gained the unofficial designation of MagnaGuard Fighter. The bounty hunter Cad Bane possessed a modified Rogue-class starfighter, recognized as the Xanadu Blood.

The Rogue-class fighter, a product of both Baktoid Armor Workshop and Buuper Torsckil Abbey Devices, was a larger starfighter characterized by a bulbous cockpit design and potent laser cannons mounted on each of its wings. Its overall length was measured at 12.7 meters.

History

The Confederacy of Independent Systems deployed Rogue-class starfighters throughout the Clone Wars. While specially programmed IG-100 MagnaGuard units often flew them, Separatist leaders and mercenaries also piloted these craft. During the Clone Wars, Count Dooku's failed scheme to gain access to Hutt Space involved the deployment of two Rogue-class starfighters by his MagnaGuards. Despite the destruction of these fighters, they successfully downed the ship of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, known as the Twilight. During the Battle of Abrion Bridge, Separatist forces utilized these fighters to overwhelm the forces of Skywalker’s Master Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Durge, the bounty hunter, also operated a Rogue-class starfighter while collaborating with the Confederacy, flying it above a green celestial body.

Cad Bane subsequently received the Xanadu Blood, a fighter equipped with a cloaking device, from his Sith Lord client and Dooku's Master, Darth Sidious. This served as part of his compensation, along with a triple payment, for stealing a Jedi holocron. Bane employed his Rogue-class starfighter to abduct two Force-sensitive children, Wee Dunn and Zinn Toa, from the planets of Rodia and Glee Anselm, transporting them to Mustafar. Skywalker and his apprentice captured Bane and his ship on Naboo. While aboard the Resolute, Skywalker and Tano conducted a search of his ship, finding his navigation logs had been erased. They eventually deduced his visit to Mustafar by the significant amount of ash found on the ship and by inspecting his fuel computer.

At a later point, Bane managed to recover his fighter, utilizing it in his assignments for the Hutts. Bane, along with his droid Todo 360, then employed it to locate Ziro at his father's grave on Teth. Bane and Todo successfully evaded Quinlan Vos and Obi-Wan Kenobi by using the fighter. Rogue-class starfighters also saw use on Utapau by the Utapau Skyforce. Nearing the conclusion of the Clone Wars, the skyforce joined forces with the Republic, engaging the Droid Army during the Battle of Utapau.

Behind the scenes

Concept art of what would become the Rogue-class starfighter, by Ryan Church.

The initial design of the Rogue-class Porax-38 starfighter was conceived for the 2005 motion picture, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.

Its inclusion in the film occurred relatively late in production, and despite the creation of a digital model, it was never fully realized to the originally intended level of detail.

The P-38 fighter drew inspiration from the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, a real-world fighter aircraft from World War II. Shared characteristics include twin tails and similar engine scoops.

A gunship bearing a striking resemblance to the Rogue-class made an appearance in "Chapter 6: The Prisoner," an episode of The Mandalorian, a 2019 Disney+ television series. Concept art displayed during the episode's credits showed the ship appearing closer to a standard Rogue-class configuration than its final on-screen depiction. Star Wars Outlaws has since identified this craft as the Rogue-class Gunship.
