Gregar Typho
Gregar Typho, a human male from Naboo, served as a dedicated captain within the Royal Naboo Security Forces, committed to protecting Senator Padmé Amidala at all costs during both the Separatist Crisis and the Clone Wars. He followed in his family's path, emulating his uncle, Quarsh Panaka, a captain during the Invasion of Naboo, and his aunt, Mariek Panaka, also a Security Forces captain.
As the Clone Wars neared their end, Amidala made the choice to journey to Mustafar to confront Darth Vader. Despite Typho's strong urging to accompany her, Amidala declined, stating that C-3PO would be her protector.
By the time that the Galactic Civil War erupted, Typho had joined the Amidalans, a group of resistance fighters determined to find and eliminate those responsible for the circumstances surrounding Amidala's mysterious death. This quest ultimately led to Typho's demise at the hands of Darth Vader and his death troopers.
Biography
Early life
Captain Quarsh Panaka and his wife, Mariek Panaka, were the uncle and aunt of Gregar Typho. His uncle was a member of the Royal Naboo Security Forces. Versaat, a cousin, was at least one other relative of Typho.
Gregar Typho underwent security forces training alongside Dorra, who remained at the Academy to undergo a modified handmaiden training program.
During the Invasion of Naboo, the Trade Federation took Gregar into custody and detained him at camp three alongside Naboo citizens who had been imprisoned within the campus dormitories of Gallo Mountain University. Typho prioritized the protection of his family and ensured that food was provided to the children in the camp. Upon discovering a functioning transmitter, Typho organized shifts to maintain communication with the outside world. During one of his shifts, he received news of the Queen of Naboo's arrival, which paved the way for effective resistance against the Trade Federation. Gregar then began preparations for the upcoming fight. He lost his left eye in the ensuing battle to reclaim the planet.
After Padmé Amidala concluded her term as queen of Naboo and accepted the role of representing Naboo in the Galactic Senate, Typho promptly recommended Dorra as a potential new handmaiden.
Separatist Crisis
During the Separatist Crisis, Captain Typho accompanied Amidala on a diplomatic mission to Coruscant, the galactic capital, to cast a vote against the proposed Military Creation Act. The Galactic Republic, already weakened, was being challenged by a growing Separatist movement led by the charismatic former Jedi Count Dooku. In response, loyalist factions, under the leadership of Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, introduced legislation to establish a Grand Army of the Republic.

Due to Amidala's prominent status, both the Senator and Captain Typho traveled to Coruscant disguised as starfighter pilots. Given the danger of his assignment, Typho recruited Cordé, one of Amidala's handmaidens, to act as Amidala and travel on her diplomatic barge. This deception allowed Amidala to evade an assassination attempt that resulted in the death of her decoy and several members of her team. While Amidala mourned Cordé's loss, Typho reassured her that the handmaiden had died in service.
Typho later visited Amidala's apartment on Coruscant to reinforce its security. Obi-Wan Kenobi, a Jedi Knight, and Anakin Skywalker, his Padawan (who was infatuated with Amidala), were added to the Senator's security detail. That night, while Typho and his men were on guard downstairs, Skywalker and Kenobi thwarted a second assassination attempt on Amidala by Zam Wesell, a Clawdite assassin, using two poisonous kouhuns. Consequently, Amidala returned to Naboo with Skywalker. Following these events, Typho remained on Coruscant to safeguard Jar Jar Binks, the Gungan Representative, who took Amidala's place in the Senate. Binks supported the creation of the Grand Army, which foreshadowed the Clone Wars.
Blue Shadow Virus crisis
Captain Typho and his troops successfully shot down and captured three B1-series battle droids and a T-series tactical droid. In response, Queen Neeyutnee summoned Senator Amidala and Representative Jar Jar Binks back to Naboo to request military aid from the Galactic Republic. Amidala, Binks, and C-3PO were present when Captain Typho interrogated the captured tactical droid. By tricking the droid into believing it was aboard a Separatist warship, C-3PO managed to extract information about a secret Separatist research facility on Naboo that was producing a virus.
When the tactical droid realized it had been deceived, Typho aimed his blaster at the droid and demanded its cooperation. However, Binks accidentally destroyed the droid while attempting to catch a slug-beetle, knocking over some shelves in the process. Despite this setback, Amidala and Binks deduced that the droid had originated from Naboo's Eastern swamps due to the presence of mud on its chassis and the slug-beetle, which Binks identified as being native to those swamps. While Amidala and her group investigated the Eastern Swamps, Captain Typho and Threepio stayed behind to examine the other battle droids.
While examining the head of a B1 battle droid, Typho and C-3PO discovered a hologram of Doctor Nuvo Vindi, a Separatist scientist, and promptly relayed this information to Amidala. Meanwhile, Amidala and her companions located Dr. Vindi's laboratory in the Eastern Swamps. Vindi was developing the Blue Shadow Virus, a deadly bioweapon, for use by the Separatists.
After a perilous struggle, Amidala and her companions, aided by the Jedi Kenobi, Skywalker, his Padawan Ahsoka Tano, and several clone troopers, successfully apprehended Vindi and prevented him from releasing an airborne strain of the virus. Despite being exposed to the Blue Shadow Virus, Amidala and Binks survived thanks to Skywalker and Kenobi's efforts to obtain an antidote, the root of a reeksa plant from Iego.
Conference on Alderaan

Later in the Clone Wars, Typho went with Amidala to Alderaan for an Alderaan Refugee Conference hosted by Senator Bail Organa of Alderaan, which sought to address the increasing humanitarian crisis caused by the war refugees. However, after Aurra Sing's first attempt on Amidala's life, Typho began to closely monitor the assassin in an attempt to prevent her from succeeding. He and Organa then went to her quarters to stop Sing, only to find that they were unable to open the door. After they managed to get the door open, Typho picked Sing up and arrested her after she had been stunned by Amidala. They then took Sing back to Coruscant to be arrested.
Shortly after, Amidala was back on Coruscant. Typho and his guards went with Amidala to show their support of Senator Riyo Chuchi after the Trade Federation blockaded her homeworld.
Deregulation of the Banking Clan
After a fight between Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and Senator Rush Clovis, Typho entered Amidala's room and inquired about what had occurred. Clovis explained that they had been attacked and that Skywalker had saved him. Typho then informed them that a 2-1B surgical droid was en route. His royal guards then assisted in carrying Clovis to a bedroom.
Imperial Era
Rise of the Empire
During the final days of the Clone Wars, the Jedi Temple was attacked and many Jedi were killed as a result of Order 66. Shortly thereafter, Typho attended a Senate meeting where Palpatine announced the formation of the Galactic Empire and declared himself the Galactic Emperor. Almost immediately after, Amidala was visited by Kenobi, who told her impacting news about her husband. After Kenobi departed, Amidala decided to travel to the planet Mustafar. However, Typho tried to persuade her that he must go with her, to no avail, as Amidala informed him that C-3PO would look after her. Typho reluctantly abated, believing Threepio could offer her adequate protection. This turned out to be the last time Typho saw Amidala alive, as she died after giving birth to her children two days later on Polis Massa.
Galactic Civil War
After Quarsh was appointed as the Imperial Moff of the Chommell sector, Typho did not join him for his first formal address to the people of Naboo. Sabé noticed as such. Instead, Typho joined the Amidalans resistance cell to investigate Amidala's death. The group became convinced that Darth Vader had killed both Amidala and her Jedi protector, Anakin Skywalker, and set out to assassinate him. In 3 ABY, Typho, along with Tonra and Sabé, attempted to do so by luring Vader into a trap on Naboo, where the group led Vader into an underwater Gungan building, after which they used a beast caller to summon a Sando aqua monster. Typho and his group managed to force Vader out of the building, and into the creature's mouth, after which they released the beast caller, which set off away from the building. Vader was able to eventually escape and kill the beast, after which he set off to Theed, where he was ambushed by the Amidalands, killing most of them. Vader would again be attacked by the remaining Amidalans at Polis Massa, ultimately defeating the group. Typho died whilst fighting Vader and his death troopers.
Personality and traits

As Captain of the Royal Naboo Security Forces, Gregar Typho was completely devoted to Padmé Amidala, the senator representing his home planet. Typho cared deeply for Amidala, and he voiced his concerns for her safety when she had to return to Naboo, thereby risking her life due to the Separatists' assassination attempt on her. Unlike his uncle Quarsh Panaka, whom he succeeded in the security forces, Typho held the Jedi in high regard, expressing his appreciation to Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi when Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker visited Amidala in her apartment to check on her.
Typho was a human male with black hair, brown eyes and brown skin. He wore an eyepatch over his left eye after losing it during the Battle of Naboo. He stood at 1.85 meters (6 feet, 1 inch) tall.
Skills and Abiliites
As Padmé's head of security, Typho was highly proficient in armed combat, military tactics, and security protocols. His primary goal was to protect the senator from any potential danger or enemy. Padmé's penchant for participating in dangerous missions to oppose any threat to Naboo and the Republic made Typho's job more challenging. Typho worked in coordination with Padmé's handmaidens to ensure her safety. He was also a skilled starfighter pilot, flying a Naboo N-1 Starfighter when he arrived on Coruscant with Padmé, escorting her J-type diplomatic barge to the Military Creation Act discussions.
Behind the scenes
Jay Laga'aia portrayed Gregar Typho in both Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith (2005). James Mathis III provided his voice in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series, which aired from 2008 to 2013.
Early storyboards for Attack of the Clones originally depicted Typho being shot down by droidekas as he waved goodbye to Amidala, but this idea was later abandoned.
In E. K. Johnston's 2019 novel Queen's Shadow, Gregar Typho's first name is misspelled as "Gregor." This error was repeated in Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy, published by DK on November 19, 2024.
