The Pelgrin sector represented one of many sectors situated within the Outer Rim Territories, sharing a border with the neighboring Tolonda sector. During the age of the High Republic Era, this sector was incorporated into the Galactic Republic's area of Galactic Frontier exploration. After its formation in 230 BBY, the Pelgrin sector was included in the Occlusion Zone, becoming one of the ten sectors isolated by a barrier that stopped hyperspace navigation. In 9 ABY, the Mandalorian bounty hunter known as Din Djarin journeyed to Pagodon, a planet within the Pelgrin sector, where he apprehended his bounty, a Mythrol referred to as "The Fledgling Mythrol."
The space sector known as the Pelgrin sector was positioned in the Outer Rim Territories, neighboring the Tolonda sector. Within this sector was the icy planet named Pagodon.

During the High Republic Era, the Galactic Republic designated the Pelgrin sector, along with other areas of the Outer Rim, as the Galactic Frontier. These locations were deemed sufficiently distant from the galaxy's core to warrant sending explorers. In 230 BBY, the Nihil marauder group created the Occlusion Zone, a region of space in the Outer Rim's Frontier shielded by the Stormwall barrier that hindered hyperspace travel.
As one of the ten sectors that comprised the Occlusion Zone's perimeter, the Pelgrin sector found itself isolated from the rest of Republic space. The inhabitants of its worlds were then compelled to pay tribute to the Nihil. Subsequently, in 229 BBY, Harli Cogra, a Vurk Jedi Master, authored a book titled Chronicles of the Jedi, which chronicled the Jedi of the High Republic Era. In the book's epilogue, Cogra expressed sorrow over the creation of the Nihil's zone and its impact on the ten affected sectors.

The planet Pagodon, residing within the Pelgrin sector, possessed a breathable, Type I atmosphere, a very cold climate, and icy landscapes. Ravinak creatures were native to Pagodon, living in its frozen waters. By 9 ABY, numerous species inhabited the world, with travelers often forming a significant portion of the population.
During that year, Din Djarin, the Mandalorian bounty hunter, made his way to Pagodon to capture his bounty, a Mythrol known as "The Fledgling Mythrol." After securing the Mythrol in the settlement of Ferryman's Reach, Djarin started toward his starship, the Razor Crest. Despite a brief encounter with a ravinak, the bounty hunter successfully departed Pagodon with the Mythrol in tow.
Before being retconned into other media in the current Star Wars canon, the ten sectors that would form the Occlusion Zone were first mentioned, although not identified by name, in a flashback sequence featured in the second issue of the Star Wars: The High Republic: Eye of the Storm comic-book miniseries. Charles Soule wrote the issue, and Marvel Comics released it on March 2, 2022 as part of Phase I of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project. Later, the 2023 comic series Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures identified the Pelgrin sector by name and confirmed it as one of the Occlusion Zone sectors via a map in the first issue. Daniel José Older wrote the issue, Harvey Tolibao and Nick Brokenshire provided the illustrations, and Dark Horse Comics published it as part of Phase III on December 6, 2023.

The reference book Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy, published in 2024, located the planet Pagodon within the Pelgrin sector. Consequently, the sector's first appearance—through Pagodon—occurred retroactively in "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian," the premiere episode of the first season of the live-action Disney+ television series The Mandalorian, which was broadcast on November 12, 2019. It was initially shown during a panel at Celebration Chicago on April 14 of the same year. During the development of The Mandalorian, Doug Chiang and Nick Gindraux, both artists, created concept art depicting Pagodon's terrain.
The Pelgrin sector was first introduced in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was mentioned in the StarWars.com Online Companion to the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry. The Online Companion placed the Perilious and Rordak systems within the sector, thereby retroactively establishing the illustration of the Rordak system planet in Planets of the Galaxy, Volume One, a 1991 Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game sourcebook by West End Games, and the appearance of the Perilious system planet of the same name in the comic story "Dark Journey"—written by Jason Hall, illustrated by Ben Templesmith, and published by Dark Horse Comics in the seventeenth issue of the Star Wars Tales series on October 1, 2003—as the first visual depiction and first full appearance of the Pelgrin sector.
